I beat Delta over the weekend and decided to play MGS4 for the first time ever. I have to say, I don’t understand why this game gets shit on so much now and has more or less become the black sheep of the series. Yes, nearly half the game is cutscenes, but it was necessary to tie up all the loose threads from the previous 3 mainline games. I also really enjoyed the more action focused gameplay. While I don’t think the game is necessarily better than any of the of the other MGS games, it’s at least just as good in so many ways. More people should be praising this game the same way they do with the previous 3, or even 5.
>>
3 things pissed off people them most:

cutscenes
nanomachines
the MGS3 radio crew being the main villains all along
>>
>>719638703
I wouldnt mind a remake/remaster. this game needs to get out of PS3 jail.
>>
have to play as old man snake
characters who died coming back (looking at you vamp)
retcons out the fucking ass
beauty and beast unit ( what a disaster )
grey piss look for the entire game
the story could have not been told and nothing of value would've been lost
mechanically it is very good and that's about its only saving grace
>>
>>719638703
I liked it. I sorta get some of the hate, but damn it's still fun to play.
>>
>>719638703
>I don’t understand why this game gets shit on so much
Envy. It's just nint0ddlers shitting up every thread about games they can't play. In this case it's "muh movie" because of it having a lot of cinematic content.

No it wasn't, no one asked for it.

I think this game ends up being the main selling point of MGS Collection Vol. 2.

The only other way they could have told that much story without so many cut scenes is if they broke MGS4 up into 2 or 3 games.

It's ugly, stupid, dumb and an excuse to make a proper metal gear online

I like the game, but Kojima has stated that MGS2 was supposed to be his last game he worked on in the series. 4's story feels contrived as hell
>>
>>719639510
Maybe they shouldn't have tried to give closure to everything and everyone
I liked the Patriots more when they were a complete mystery
Less is way more
>>
mgs4 is great until big boss shows up and ruins the whole franchise
>>
>>719639823
I think the Patriots being the main bad guys was an excellent move. I think they should have remained a bit more enigmatic towards the end, but I love how this game essentially puts you up against the men behind the curtain that are pulling all the strings of what’s happening.
>>
>>719638828
>the MGS3 radio crew being the main villains all along
Huh, so I really wasn't alone in thinking that was insanely fucking retarded.
>>
>>719638703
It wasn't alwaya like this. /v/ used to love mgs4 and called it the GOTY back when it was released
>>
>>719638703
it’s a great fully complete and finished game and story
>>
>>719641162
I remember. It’s weird how this board and I guess the internet in general turns on games for seemingly no reason over time. I’ve seen the opposite happen to.

You can thank your fellow streamers for forcing their shit opinions on the newer generation or the newer generation too dumb and only get their opinions from streamers. Either way both suck.

What the fuck are you talking about? It received a 10/10 by IGN.

>2008 to 2016ish
Praised and loved by fanbase
>late 2010s
Starts getting picked apart in video essays and “wellacruuuuallly” YouTubers who now say it’s a mediocre game.
>2020s
A whole generation of games (zoomers) now believe it’s a bad game and not worth playing
>>
I liked the gameplay, both hours of it. Skipped all the cutscenes. Not really worth 60 dollerz.

> You can thank your fellow streamers for forcing their shit opinions on the newer generation or the newer generation too dumb and only get their opinions from streamers. Either way both suck.
There’s like 1 video that shits on MGS4, the overwhelming majority of E-celebs love it. Why are MGS4 fans obsessed with looking like victims? You guys won the cultural battle. You got
>a 10/10 score
>critics being seen as a fringe minority
>MGO2 returning
> Raiden being “fixed”
>Legacy Collection Volume 2
>More Kojima games
>>
it's just not a stealth game it's an action game there's only 2 hours of gameplay and half of it is on rails shooting
>>
MGS4's the best movie I ever played. The Love Theme should be played on /v/'s final moments like it did when everyone thought 4chan was finally going to die all those years ago.

4chan has changed...

>tactical espionage ACTION
The entire series was always like this and drops stealth halfway through in favor of action
>>
>>719638703
It's stuck on the PS3
>>
i remember almost everything from mgs1, 2, 3, 5, but the only things I remember about mgs4 are a boss fight against an octopus girl in a lab, and a mission where you had to follow somebody for 20 minutes
>>
>>719642145
don’t forget the last jedi was inspired by MGS4
>>
>>719639302
>beauty and beast unit ( what a disaster
They really were. Easily the worst of the "Named Enemy Units" from MGS1 to MGS5

The Cobras > FOXHound > Dead Cell > XOF > Beauty and the Beast
>>
I loved MGS4 at the time but yes, out of all of them it has probably aged the worst. Cinematic, Cutscene-Heavy Games like MGS4 were a rarity back then. Pretty much just the realm of Konani and Square Enix. These days, they a dime a dozen. Especially a few years ago they were everywhere. It's no wonder that everyone has "cinematic game fatigue". MGS4 is pretty much the main inspiration for every "cinematic game" that came after it which means it also shares in the fatigue that everyone now has for them

That and looking back, MGS4 suffered so that MGS3 could fly. MGS3 was a masterpiece and easily the most enjoyable and atmospheric of the mainline MGS games. However it added nothing that furthered the plot that was established in 1 and 2 and, in context of the whole series, all it did was add a fuckload of random new backstory that had to be resolved in MGS4 whilst MGS4 also needed to carry the story on to some meaningful conclusion. That was a whole lot of weight on MGS4
>>
all I remember was eggs
>>
>>719638828
Retarded shit is what happens when you keep trying to add new levels of bad guys that were "actually the baddies" behind it all. It's why V and skull face was the dumbest shit ever because it was another layer of moronic nonsense added to an already over the top and convoluted plot.

It's all why I consider 3 the end of the story.
>>
>>719643015
Delta has reminded me of how much I loved the Cobras, even with The Fear weighing them down.
I think Dead Cell are better than FOXHound though. Vamp and Fatman were kino (though Vamp should have stayed dead in MGS2)
>>
>>719643881
It's as >>719643606 says. Individually, MGS3 is absolutely the best game but it wrote some many narrative cheques that MGS4 had to cash

>I don't understand why people hate this game
>sure half the game are cutscenes but it's necessary for them to take a fat dump on the three previous games to tie up all the loose ends
>and the 10 minutes of gameplay that aren't railroaded setpieces are really good
>why do people hate this??
>>
>>719643930
foxhound is incredibly overrated. people always shit on the b&b for having the loredumps after their fights but the foxhound pulled the same shit too.
>>
>>719644223
The difference is that Vulcan Raven and Psycho Mantis and Revolver Ocelot have actual fucking faces and personalities that show during the fights.

Why not use portable ops or make some disposable PSP game to tie those ends related to MGS3 then?

What do you mean? The B&B Corps have personality. They literally could not shut up about it.
>>
>>719644474
It's been more than a decade since I played MGS4. All I remember about them during their fights is them screaming while wearing a mask, and then them uh, doing sexy poses while walking slowly towards you afterwards. I genuinely don't remember a single thing about any of them.
>>
>>719644464
> Peacewalker?
That was after MGS4. I’m just saying I don’t necessarily buy the idea MGS4 had to resolve ALL the plot threads from 3.
>>
>>719644549
I was being sarcastic. Their personality was they kept saying their codename over and over again.

However they do take off their masks and are hot.
