I went to a rave in Rhode Island in 2018 and the drummer from Pendulum was there and he drummed over a bunch of SoundCloud meme tunes. I remember there was one bit where he shouted “THIS ONE’S FOR MY RHYTHM KIDS. WHERE ALL MY RHYTHM KIDS AT” before a big drop.

I will always find ironic that, of all musical styles, electronic music was the one that generated the biggest levels of gatekeeping and categorization despite being about experimentalism and pushing boundaries

99% of the clubs play some form of EDM, however.
>>
>>719656673
i'm....i'm gonna...I'M GONNA GROOM
>>
>>719656532
said experimental characteristics and boundary pushing aspects are lost as the genre is sanitised and re-packaged to be more palatable to (really hate to say this) normalfags. the gatekeeping is an effort to stop that from happening. look at goths, they welcomed people into their subculture with open arms and paid for it dearly. the idea that goth was originally a music subculture has been all but lost and it's now a label that has been hijacked by tik tok/onlyfans sluts wearing fishnets.

Also Pendulum may be the worst DJs I've ever seen in real life, though I can't speak for their band set if they have one (saw Infected Mushroom's band set years ago and they were dope). All I remember from seeing them literally almost 20 years ago was that they played Tarantula three times in a row. I don't even think it was remixed, they just played it literally three times back to back. I thought I was tripping out but my sober friend just looked at me and was like "what the fuck," I guess they thought Tarantula was such a banger that the predominately rolling crowd would just love that they played it... three times in a row.

The fuck.

As a black metal enjoyer I've always found it hilarious that the first wave of black metal is held up by so many people as this untouchable paragon of music and idealistic purity
When if you actually think about it for two seconds you realise the progenitors of the genre were all edgy teenagers in an edgy atheist phase.
It's like if people held Slipknot up as the ideal of metal because people aren't making metal that's just screaming about how much you hate life in middle America anymore
The first wave of black metal was dogshit and the genre has only gotten better and better as it's been experimented with more and evolved

Varg literally called another black metal band a bunch of posers and threatened to kill them all when they refused to burn down a Shinto shrine in Bergen. Because they discovered it way later than Europe did. While the UK, Spain and The Netherlands were experimenting with hardcore, gabber and hardbass the USA didn't even know electronic music existed yet
Entire genres came and went before the first prominent US producers even began popping up.
Even today producers and DJs talk about the disparity in what music they can play for a US crowd vs a European crowd. US crowds can not stomach anything north of 180BPM while EU crowds need their sets to start at 200

This one's a banger, for sure. Anything that came out of the Good Looking label is solid. It's such a unique song that's hard to describe. Liquid/Intelligent DnB is distinctively different from the Jungle it grew out of, and often gets mistaken with Dreamcast/Playstaion-era DnB tracks just because it's got bass hits and a(an Amen) break. I'd really like to take a stab at recreating the sound one day, even though I don't know the first thing about music production. I just know the sound I'm looking for.

I've always found liquid to be somewhat wishy washy. Not hard enough to commit to a good THUMP but not soft enough to fall into something like psybient or chillgressive.

Dub techno is chill and it has great producers, but its too warm and welcoming. Techno is cold and hard, it gets to your teeth and shakes your core, the italians made some very good early techno in the late 90s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7P5TGUZgDo

This has to be the first Anon to post Trance ITT, which is kinda weird since its the genre with the most constant exposure over the years.
Well to be fair most modern trance has been trash, I've been leaning more into tech trance lately, digging the labels of David Forbes and Mark Sherry.

I like psytrance, like, a lot. But tech trance mogs it when it comes to intensity, and progressive trance mogs it when it comes to melodies and spirituality.
Psytrance feels a lot like tech house. Its a jack of all trades, master of none, but its so accesible you can enjoy it with mostly everyone. It doesn't help that jews overplayed that genre in every single festival, to the point Goa no longer means India anymore.
I do love when tech producers do psy, it gives me a rave boner

so 2005-2014
aka SSX
aka need for speed (beginning of the franchise)
aka Burnout Paradise
etc etc

I really wanna drop my steam handle here but it will be forever archived and I dont wanna get marked

since this thread died
