The top path doesn't really get difficult until you reach the castle with Death being the first difficult boss.The bottom path is smooth enough until the pants on head retarded tetris level.

Play as Alucard. That's really the best tip I have. Other than that, it's just a matter of trial and error.

It's kind of cheating but that boss is pure cheeks otherwise and the level he's at the end of is just outrageous. Such a great albeit infuriating game and so satisfying to beat. Of course in the original version the best would be Grant with his infinite supply of full-screen projectiles. Getting rid of those is the one thing I prefer about the English language version since he's still very solid thanks to his maneuverability.

Also I think you can shotgun them into someone and all 3 orbs will do damage if you can afford the hit. Flames is as long as Trevor's level 3 whip and does more damage and can also pierce certain bosses which resist damage. And ice just lets you instant kill things and also remove unkillable enemies like red skeletons. I'd say she's easily the best at combat as long as you aren't doing something stupid like taking Ice into a boss.
