The paradigm of major publishing companies and rights holders is untenable and may potentially tip over completely within a few decades. Internationalized, bureaucratized IP law is proving to be a failed experiment and the internet is only accelerating the rapid decay that was started in the early 20th century.
Extending the duration and protections of IP for as long as they have is almost entirely a measure to boost the amount of bureaucracy and legal work that can be wrung out any particular deal, as expected from "protections" that have been put in place by lawyers and large legal entities.
Power over culture, industry and academia just ends up consolidating in the hands of fewer and fewer, larger and larger entities, often even just those entities that don't produce anything, hence granting them a better ability to field frivolous legal costs.

Get fucked, Microsoft's already losing interest in gaming, as always, they screwed up and came in too late in the game, once their cloud push, and XboxOS fails, it's over for them in gaming, AI will kill them and Google's ChromeOS may be the thing they were afraid Linux would do to them. Only thing that will save them in the future is a government bailout like with Intel for being an American company but that's about it. Don't ever expect Microsoft to try to acquire either Nintendo or Valve again. Phil no longer has power and Nadella cut him short. You pajeets should stop lying and tell us who truly controls Microsoft Gaming instead of us commoners needing to research it ourselves.

They should buy the xbox and rename it the shitbox lol

Microsoft should fucking go out of the gaming business so it can prosper like it did before the XBox came out.

They're not losing interest. They're losing ground. They spent the past decade making woke flop after flop that has everyone playing Sony and/or Nintendo instead, and it costs too much and takes too long to recover from it.

If copyright was ended, no developer would actually be capable of usurping actual Mario or Zelda games. They would lose big on merchandise and someone might be able to pick off Mario Tennis, but Sonic Team or Toys For Bob 3D Mario would always be obvious knockoff shovelware compared to the real games.

They actually did attempt to buy Nintendo at one point.

They were promptly laughed out of the room.
