I also personally felt the progression of Plasmas scheming and the climax were better in BW2 than 1. I'll admit BW1 has a more "thought provoking" story since it's a clash of wills and motives kind of thing rather than just "stop the evil people" but I still find the sequel story more intense.

The progression is "improved" I guess but not in a particularly meaningful way, just better for the psyche that it isn't a literal straight line. More mon variety means removing one of the gen 5's main positives, that you weren't seeing the same pokemon as every other generationJust could never get into this game. Nothing that's exactly bad about it, but it's also pretty by the numbers without anything that really stands out.

I was gonna post this in another thread but while people shit on BW1 for just being "go from one town to the next" BW2 is also the exact same way. It's just that jump of going from Mistralton to Lentimas/Undella to Opelucid and then to Humilau really made it feel fresh. We still were basically progressing in a straight line with only like 1 bit of backtracking but it felt like you were exploring a lot more. Same with the jump from Virbank to Castelia.Honestly I don't know how well to articulate this opinion but I feel like people conflate things like exploration and region design a lot. Hoenn is a region that is fucking AMAZING when it comes to exploring the region because the route placement is so well designed as well as the routes themselves being so good. The region feels tight and connected while still being vast.A region I feel that gets overrated when it comes to design is Sinnoh. The backtracking in it feels forced as an excuse to make you run in certain route loops(like going from the ghost gym then all the way back around after the swamp routes)Unova isn't perfect but the routes are well designed, it has good dungeons, and BW2 makes you feel like you're really traveling through the entire region even in the main gameI agree that having only new mons in BW1 was a huge boost but I don't think they could have viably done that two games in a row.To me BW2 is just Game Freak getting the formula for things down as close to perfect as they could have. Before moving onto gimmicks like megas to carry their games.
