What is your controller of choice, sir?

The Switch 2 pro controller
Because I'm not poor and have white skin

I've used a wireless 360 controller for as long as I've had my own PC. I like using my nes30 pro for emulators amd retro-style games, though.

1990s: 1st party and MadKatz for my siblings.
2000s: 1st party, Wavebird, and MadKatz for my siblings.
2010s: 1st party
2020s: 1st party and 8BitDo Bluetooth Pro controller for Switch 1 and 2 to avoid the $90 controller toll

People (Gen Alpha) in modern times have no context about what yanking the cord off a console since everyone uses wireless controllers. Wavebird used to randomly desync from its pairing and you used to roll the frequency from 1-32 manually. And no rumble sucked. Modern controllers the only thing I care about is battery life. Actually I wanna bitch about this but sometimes I only play for one hour at most and then I wanna charge the controller. Well all fucking modern controllers (except third party) will refuse to charge if they hold 90% charge or more, fullstop. Sony and Nintendo controllers behave this way and it pisses me off. The Switch Joycons are immune to this but they're the exception.

>>
Is there easy way to change/alter the controller, like change the height of the sticks or change the face buttons height/feel? Does the ease of customizability depend per controller basis?

So far these are some of my observations I've made:
I think the face buttons on vader 4 pro are too low
I think they're not mushy enough, like loose, they feel almost "tryhardy", but for what? What games benefit from buttons that don't seek comfyness? The flat weird shaped buttons on 8bitdo pro 3 also feel kinda tryhardy
I don't like how the sticks on vader 4 pro are not high enough, to me the higher sticks on Cyclone 2 feel more comfy. It's the same thing with Tarantula Pro vs Pro 3, the sticks on Pro 3 are very, very very low (again, almost as if they're going for some "tryhard" thing or something, but what for?)
It would be nice to be able to ask the disc shape thing on existing d-pads, so if I have cyclone 2 I put some seX disc on top of its d-pad for slightly easier diagonals. Other thing I'd like to be able to do is maybe change d-pad/its behavior entirely, but that might be impossible since it's pcb/soldering related and not just swapping "easily" removable parts

I bought vader 4 pro in the hopes that it would show me this diagonal-style d-pad would do, but it might be the game I'm playing or something, but I think I would prefer the looser sega saturn's diagonal d-pad, since I think it's looser than this very-tight feeling vader d-pad. So vader loses in sticks to cyclone 2, the d-pad both could be equally meh, cyclone 2 are more mushy (which I prefer) but they're situated lower than vader 4 pro. I don't know if tar pro is same height buttons, but tar pro and ultimate 2 have the best face buttons, imo.

I think I'm gonna wait for more sega style diagonal d-pads on game controllers. I know gulikit has elves 2 and TT , but I'm not sure yet of the other variables (is the plastic good and not cheap, is its pattern good, what are the face buttons and sticks like).
>>
>>719676415
>the d-pad both could be equally meh
I meant to say on facebuttons, both cyclone 2 and vader 4 pro aren't "terrific". It's even arguable if Pro 3 facebuttons are worse or not to these two

I feel if rtings were doing reviews/tests on game controllers (like they do for mice, tv's , pc monitors, keyboards and bunch of other stuff), we'd have bunch of more data we could use to try determine what our individual ideal gamecontroller should be. Like these guys would measure the height of sticks and the pressure resistance of face buttons and other stuff to such minute detail that it should be helpful data to try find good controller. Maybe with other stuff, the manufacturers send their stuff for testing as a means for advertising, and since game controller manufacturers aren't doing that, they're not going to go out of their way to invest money on bunch of controllers, when it might not even increase the likelyhood of someone subbing their site or giving them money through affiliate links or whatnot. Hardware Unboxed is youtube channel that reviews PC gear, they used to do monitors, until recently they made new channel Monitors Unboxed for monitors, and they said on some video that (not even a big content creator like them) they'll review monitors users will send them, so I take that as to mean not even they are buying monitors to review on their channel, which is why some monitors might not have review because nobody sent them the said monitor for review.

>change the height of the sticks
Some controllers have the top of the stick detachable so you can put on different height caps. I believe Vader 4 Pro is one of these, since it was a feature on the 3.
Worst case, you can take the controller apart and typically transplant whatever stick you want.
>It would be nice to be able to ask the disc shape thing on existing d-pads, so if I have cyclone 2 I put some seX disc on top of its d-pad for slightly easier diagonals.
There's some options for this, from swapping the d-pad entirely (so long as it fits the shell), to 3d printing a d-pad that fits over the existing one, to getting an adhesive d-pad that sits on top of the existing one.
>the sticks on Pro 3 are very, very very low (again, almost as if they're going for some "tryhard" thing or something
I have no idea what you mean by this, arguably tall sticks are the "tryhard" style as they allow for more precision. Short's likely to minimize the risk of thumbs bumping with the symmetrical layout, ZD recommends swapping to short sticks on their O+ if using that in a symmetrical layout for the same reason.

I don't know enough about this, it could be that they give more precision, but for me it feels like it's more "comfy". The lower sticks on pro 3 feels like my thumbs have to put extra work/more muscles need activation to do stuff that requires less when using higher sticks of Tar pro.

I believe you can install some hats on top of stick, does that have same effect as installing higher height sticks, or is it different? Also will every available stick detachment (or whatever it's called) work with all game controllers universally. Example if I have Pro 3 and remove its sticks, would any generic stick stuff work on them (higher aftermarket sticks) , or would only 8bitdo's own stick parts work? it came with those arcade things that give more height, but it's sadly too much and wrong shape

Foot pedals on the floor the big controller on a table.

The really fun part is that you have the direction your VT is moving, the torso twist, a camera and lastly your arm direction. All can be in different directions.

Also if you don't eject in time when destroyed you die and your game data is deleted.

Elves 2 (non pro) has supplanted the M30 in my opinion, unless you absolutely need six face buttons for emulating genesis/Saturn. It has big face buttons, and the grips are deceptively girthy, so the controller feels more substantial in the hands than you'd think from looking at it. Everything feels good, but if I had to dock it points, it'd be for the fact that the sticks have a short travel, so I wouldn't use them for shooting games, but that kinda makes them better for pulling off 360s in fighting games. The M30 doesn't even have sticks, so you have more options for games to play with the Elves.
>>

The jury is still out on TT Max because it's not been released yet, but theoretically it could be "something"? At worst it's probably something like Vader d-pad, at best it's gonna be saturn style Elves 2 / 8shitdo m30

And yes I know some here has been saying the TT Pro is "good enough", but trust me it's not. The max will have some feature to disable the extra diagonals in software (could be profiler style, so you can play with "disable diagonals" on platformer games, while still keeping the removable disc shaped 8pad), and also apparently there's going to be 3 different heights of sticks included with the "Max package". I'm big proponent of playing your stick on highest available height you can get, so there should be no reason to skimp on that offering, imo.
>>

We've had 20 years of advancements since the 360 pad released. It's no longer the standard, and you need to move on, because you'd be hard pressed to find any modern controller company catering to your niche taste. Maybe look up dpad mods for the 360 pad, that's probably your best option. I think the most common are mods that turn the dpad into four distinct buttons.
>>
Might be just me, but there's risk of GameSir falling behind, they haven't released anything exactly new. Some of their competitors are experimenting and releasing new innovative products/designs (GuliKit TT looks very interesting). They seem to be trying to play things too safe, imo

Maybe you should buy some bluetooth antenna for your PC or something, maybe there are some usb bluetooth dongles too. Some mobos come with an antenna you have to screw with two screws to back of your mobo, and then put the antenna on a table or something, two flimsy cables go back to your mobo to the screws you twisted on. Without it attached the mobo's bluetooth is basically "non-existant" (asus x570 darkhero is one such mobo). I basically never use the antenna so bluetooth doesn't really work for me on any device.

GuliKit Elves 2 (non-pro) if you want sticks, and don't mind losing 2 extra face buttons
8BitDo M30 if you want 6 face buttons (no sticks tho)

Upcoming GuliKit TT Max (the one to buy out of the two) seems to have saturn d-pad available as an add-on. I'm not very well versed on d-pad constructions (whatever the tech that's soldered on the pcb that captures the inputs and all the details of that stuff) so the jury could still be out on whether it actually "feels like" saturn d-pad. But if you do end up waiting for TT, I recommend the Max for some extra features, one being able to adjust stick height, because I have some existing controllers where I wish I could easily adjust the height of the sticks to be higher.

why would you even make such worthless shit

mine got some serious analog drifting issues so i had to retire it. also the d-pad is ass.

dual sense because the adaptive triggers are really cool (on the few games that use them well)

I think it should be plenty ok for non-fps games, I haven't noticed any "whoa this is too slow" moments in my gaming sessions, at least on the game I play
>>
>controller fag still split between moving the camera with their thumbs or pressing face buttons
KEK just turn on aim assist, consolefags
>>
>>719699462
I think many of the third party controllers lets you do adaptive triggers, like I think it's a switch you move behind the controller, sometimes it's on trigger itself. You can also adjust in/out deadzones for triggers, so if you're playing FPS or something, then even if you're using it as analog trigger (if you happen to prefer a particular controllers analog trigger's "feel" more), you can still have very aggressive "zone starts here" (very early) and then it ends really quickly as well, so it becomes pseudo adaptive (though not all softwares may let you adjust both ends, might be game controller software dependent)
>>
>>719699637
what you should've said is

motion controls (wii / wii u)
or controller with gyro

Looks like cheap plastic shit. When does the gamesaar shilling contract end or are you like the chink handheld guys who keep it going?
>>
>>719699712
nah mate it's just passion
>>
>>719698735
It's pointless, because nobody looks at the buttons. The only reason tendie shit is irritating is because it's bound differently.
>tell me to hit Y
>I hit X because it's in the position of Y
Different glyphs on the buttons wouldn't change my muscle memory.
>>
>>719699834
That's usually the case, but some games are poorly ported to some system, then being able to play it on controls that are "native" might be better experience. Imagine if microsoft decides to bring Halo 1 for both Switch and PS4. On PS4, master chef jump from X, but on switch they fuck up the layout porting, and he jump from A instead, and that's a problem because on switch A is on the right side, not "down". There's a indie game on switch that plays better on the "foreign" button layout than on the system's native, and while I've not tested it on rockstar games, but I have suspicion it might paly better on GTA and RDR games as well.
>>
>>719699648
i'm talking about the PS5 ones that have a motor inside that adds resistance based on what is happening in game. e.g. a bow and arrow will make the trigger harder to pull than firing a pistol
>>
So basically, the rotator in Tar Pro acts as a profiler (it changes between ABXY/BAYX layouts) and it also changes what the buttons looks like. It's only controller I know that lets you do both, without having to swap keys and changing the profile manually afterwards.
>>
>>719700037
>e.g. a bow and arrow will make the trigger harder to pull
what game would this be? god of war? last of us?
>>
>>719699972
But when you port from console to console, the onscreen glyphs match the console. If you hit A on Xbox, it'll be onscreen as B on Switch or X on PS4.
>>
>>719700143
There is a game where I much prefer playing it with the "foreign" button layout, and I don't know if it's because the game originally has bad control scheme (haven't played it any other platforms) or if the dev fucked that layout conversion for switch. Basically on switch layout "equip" is up, and "discard" is left, and on the foreign layout I prefer equip is on left, and discard is on top, so the discard is harder to press on the heat of the moment.

>Xbox form factor
>2.4Ghz + BT
>TMR or Hall Effect sticks
>Accepts AA batteries, I'll take my glorious Eneloops over those shitty 1000 mah batteries
That's it. That's all I need. That's the perfect controller.
And the only way to get it is to solder TMR/HE sticks yourself on an Xbox pad. And good luck desoldering the original ones, kit's a nightmare unless you have a heatgun.
The perfect controller is so simple to achieve, yet it doesn't exist. It's tragic.

Anyone tried the recently released Gulikit ES Pro?
https://www.gulikit.com/productinfo/1523654.html

It has TMR sticks, is able to wake up the Switch 2, and is cheap at 30 bucks.
>>
well after much deliberation i was set on the Elves 2 for its low BT latency and dpad-centric design for retro gaymen but it turns out it only has digital triggers which is a pain for the occasional time i play a modern racan game on pc >:(
so now my choice is either a 8bitdo pro 2 which has a good build but shit latency or a dualsense which has low latency but will inevitably drift after 6 months
i love gaming
