Never played a Persona game before, and decided the Sega sale was the right time. Any recommendations on where to start, do I need to play them in order or is it like Final Fantasy where they're self contained?
>>719673753Self-contained. Best starting point is from the "oldest" so you don't get spoiled by the modern quality of life changes. Consider how playing a modern Pokemon game and going back to old ones might be tougher for someone who's never played the old games before. Persona 4 Golden is the oldest from that group. There's a Persona gacha called Persona 5 The Phantom, ignore that gambling arcade hellscape. After playing Persona 4 Golden you can jump to Persona 3 Remake or Persona 5 Royal. Persona 5 has a vanilla version and Royal re-release. Persona 4 has original and Golden re-release. The re-releases act like the third Pokemon version or a director's cut if you don't get it. The games are all equally as long as each other. I should note that ATLUS didn't include the post-game epilogue of Persona 3 in the remake, it's called Episode Aigis/The Answer. Don't worry about that for now.
I would assume the gacha is connected to Persona 5 considering, but the others are self contained besides some easter egg referencesNot really a particular order to play them in otherwise. Whatever your preferences say. My own play order went like P4 OG -> P3 FES -> P5 OG and thought it was fine, even liked P3 the most out of them
idiot
>>719673753Congratulations, you just bought the shittiest versions of all three games.
They’re mostly self contained with a social link from 3 getting a cameo in 4 but I’d still recommend going in chronological order
>>719673753>never played this series but let me buy the whole series to see if I like it
>>719673753Enjoy anon, they're the best JRPG experiences ever made.
>>719673753Ignoring P5X, you can't go wrong with any of them so pick the one that strikes your fancy. But if I had to choose, I'll start with P5R because it's the most accessible and the first act is pretty good.
>>719673753start with 5, merciless too
>>719673978I would actually argue that playing P3R before P4G would be better. Sure you would lose some things like the ability to pass your turn when you hit a weakness, but P3 is so much more simplified with the life sim sections that going from 4 to 3 will feel a lot more limiting.
>>719674158I did P4 -> P3FES -> P4G -> P5 -> P5G -> P3R
