They censored the fuck out of it. RoN was probably the highest quality "edgy" game ever made because none of the edge was masturbatory, but when they ported the game to consoles they censored everything. The gameplay's still good, but the full package is soulless now.

lolwut
the writing is extremely juvenile with no subtlety
a great example is in stolen valor. the gang members have a conveniently placed note (that and emails on computers being the only way void conveys information in game) in the weed growing room with the cop tortured to death stating how not only are they drug dealing cop killers, theyre also sex traffickers! so go ahead and waste them in an epic gun battle! this is rainbow six after all, not a police game
this goes for most enemies. want to make them unsympathetic so you can have your audience of airsoft teenagers give you endless marketing with their epic john wick gameplay compilations mix #13? make them a pedophile with an army of heavily armed mercenaries ready to fight to the death
>>
>>719679872
it was so bad its good. The story's premise were interesting, but it was so underdeveloped and all over the place it was impossible to take serious, especially with the retarded finale. Nevertheless, the new executions are very cool, and Manhunt 2 ought to be the edgiest game I'm aware of, and that has to worth something.
>>
They ruined my life unironically
>>
>>719679872
In the first manhunt each of the gangs were memorable, but in Manhunt 2 only the pervs were memorable. Also the perv levels were so peak and kino.

Also the game makes the same mistake of quickly turning into a third person shooter halfway through.

The Fight Club twist was executed so poorly.

James Earl Cash was unironically more interesting as a protagonist than Danny despite having basically no lines.

Despite what anyone says, I actually liked Leo.

The edgy stuff in Ready or Not absolutely was masturbatory. Everything was super on the nose and in your face to the point of being cartoonish. Genuinely feels like "The Punisher" simulator with how irredeemably evil the suspects often are.

death of movies was a disaster for video games
gamedevs just don't have the artistic vision to create something good and original, so they had to substitute it by imitating the movies
which worked pretty well and without the movies a lot of games these days have basically no direction or vision

What's edgy in Contracts? You just kill communists, which is pretty tame. Silent Assassin is literally banned. The steam version is censored.
>>
>>719675919
There's a reason why this game has more cultural relevance compared to other "edgy" games or even the second game. It had an actual vision to it even with the jank ass stealth mechanics. You can make an edgy game right now if you want to (a lot of people did back in the 00s) but it won't reach the status that Manhunt 1 does.

2 isn't bad but Rockstar tried to rely on something they just weren't good at, which was writing. Manhunt 1 is kind of accidentally good because of how minimal the writing and backstory was while they focused on the style and atmosphere instead. Then they focused on writing an actual story for 2 and it just fell flat. It's why no one mentions the story and only talks about how it was significantly more gory compared to Manhunt 1.

I actually liked Manhunt 2, the MK Ultra plot is amazing IF you're a teen or younger, and the distorted cuts every 5 seconds really set the schizo setting. I don't really like gore and murder snuff-stuff, but the game was super unique when it came out so I enjoyed 1 and 2.

Rockstar were the ones who ripped it off. They took it from The Parallax View, which released in 1974.

>>
>>719688523
I vastly prefer Halloween over Friday the 13th as an ip, personally
>>
>>719688789
Frisay the 13th had a cool twist in the first movie, had some barebones gore, and Jason's backstory were well-thought and cool. It holds no candle to something like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws, both OG of course or Nightmare on Elm Street, but it still stomps Halloween into the ground due to how retarded and shallow Halloween was. Even Halloween 2 was fucking better because it had some gore and few cool practical effects.
>>
>>719689202
NTA but, Friday the 13th is really garbage. It zooms straight into the face instead of showing the deaths, which I hate. Halloween is good because it's a serial killer walking around the neighborhood murdering everyone. Nothing is hidden. Rob Zombie's Halloween remake is my favorite slasher film of all time.

Way better than Myers. Way, way fucking better. Myers literally has no backstory - oh he's a kid who suddenly got fucked up for no reason at all and killed his sister in the most anti-climactic murder scene in history of horror cinema, he got in psych ward and he never talked, and then he escaped and no one knows why... this is so retarded I cringe by simply reciting it.

>>719690067
>It zooms straight into the face instead of showing the deaths, which I hate.
True. The gore scenes are extremely cheap. And yet, still better than Halloween, which had none at all apart from Myers getting poked in the eye, and even that one looked like absolute shit.
Friday the 13th was retarded, but it was honest about it. Yea he's a dude who almost got drowned once by normies and kills them for vengeance, whatever, you know what you're in for from the start. Halloween was even more retarded but tried to hide it by misting up it's already shallow fanfiction-tier story, I have zero respect for this low effort overrated mess.

>Gamergate or GamerGate (GG)[1] was a loosely organized misogynistic online harassment campaign motivated by a right-wing backlash against feminism, diversity, and progressivism in video game culture.[2][3][4] It was conducted using the hashtag "#Gamergate" primarily in 2014 and 2015.[a] Gamergate targeted women in the video game industry, most notably feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian and video game developers Zoë Quinn and Brianna Wu.[b]

I did. It's simple, honest, and makes perfect sense. Not quarter as creative as Freddy though, but comparing anything with Nightmare on Elm Street feels like an overkill, it's an almost perfect horror flick that succeeds at everything.
>>
>>719679872
The game seemed to be a reference to the Phoenix project, turning vets and criminals into sanctioned serial killers. Idk if the story just lost direction somewhere through development or what but the plot suddenly shifting gravity to the split personality fightclub thing seemed to me like a rush to wrapup an ending in what would have been a more developed story.
