>Literally no other Dragon Quest game tops thisHow did they do it?
Dropped it after 20 hours, kinda boring storytelling, i think i'll try DQ5
that art style is shit. Dragon Ball is shit
>>719682851It's got way too much content, to the point where it's out to torture completionists. For example, you can level a character to 99, but it requires an insane amount of XP after level 50. You can also prestige a class 10 times, so since there's 12 classes, each character can be leveled more than 10,000 times. There's also so much DLC that you've got to jump through hoops to access since DS Wifi is down.
>>719683159>Unable to disassociate Toriyama from Dragon BallLatinx detected.
>>719682851>shitty MMO-esque with minimalist plot and randomly generated dungeons and one of the worst job systems in the industry>anything but mediocre.just because the doll quest and the black knight quest were good doesn't mean that the game in general is lackluster. Also I'm stll salty, it has been like 15 years and I'm still pissed that the whiny nips.
>>719682851Was considering picking it up as a co-op game but apparently story progress isn't shared so it'd be kinda tedious in that aspect right?
>>719682851i'll never understand why fully customizable parties in JRPGs is so rare. it seems to only be a thing in dungeon crawlers where you never see your party>>719683438>it's out to torture completionistsGood. Fuck completionists
>>719682851IX isn't even that good, its just alright, and X pretty much tops it in every way for me.If I could get my friends to play it, it would also be a lot easier than trying to play IX together nowadays.
>>719682851DQ9 is dogshit
>>719683558Toriyama style is shit and the only thing relevant from him is Dragon Ball
>>719683649Yeah, so basically you'd have to progress your story together and then do the same in your friend's world. And that's only for 2 players, if you're trying to run 3 or 4 it'd get exponentially more tedious. If you try to just do the story on only one save, let's say yours for example, your friends can't open red chests (basically half of the chests in the world), can't change into advanced vocations, and can't do quests or get their rewards. This is on top of the fact that each player needs to go through the first like 3 hours solo to even unlock multiplayer. The co-op in IX is basically designed around looting the randomly generated dungeons and fighting super bosses, and maybe jumping into a friend's world with your overpowered hero to help him blitz through a section, rather than playing through the main story the whole way.
>>719684009>he doesn't know Dr. slumpzoomer
>>719682851Synthetic man's favorite dragon quest game
>>719682851>what if we made a linear dq3 but /fa/ as fuck and with multiplayerit just werks
>>719683438It does not have too much content. >For example, you can level a character to 99, but it requires an insane amount of XP after level 50By this point, there are areas where you can find Metal Slimes, Metal Medlies and Metal King Slimes, never mind high level grotto maps that have one floor with Metal King Slimes and even Platinum King Jewels.>You can also prestige a class 10 times, so since there's 12 classes, each character can be leveled more than 10,000 times. You don't have to do this. You can revoc your characters four or five times to match the legacy bosses. You don't need to do all the prestiges, you'll have enough skill points to max all your skills.>There's also so much DLCThere wasn't that much. I'm wondering if you actually played the game because it wasn't bloated, it was just right for casual play and post-game play.t. have two copies with 1500+ hours logged in and a maxed inn on my first copy
>>719684708tell me more about your internet boyfriend, I definitely care
>>719685251>it wasn't bloated, it was just right>average 100% completion time is 700 hoursMeanwhile people will whine about VII being too long.
>>719682851It's design concept only worked in Japan. Having to save edit in hacked Japanese grottos because nobody within an 80,000 mile radius of you in the USA every played a dragon quest in 2012 kind of ruined half the fun of the post game gimmick. I imagine and understand meeting a random guy on a train in Tokyo who gave you the metal slime grotto would've been pure ludokino if the option was available to me a kid but it just wasn't.
>>719686731the game was surprisingly big in the UK of all places
>>719686585Totally different beasts. DQ9 isn't particularly long if you aren't an insane completionist.Meanwhile 7 takes 5 hours to get started forces you to play with fireball+attack for 10 hours, and the plot feels like a 90s anime that long outpaced the manga and had to start making up filler arcs where nothing happens
>>719686585I did not complete the game 100%, nor was it required for me to enjoy it. I got all the legacy maps, filled my bestiary and did all the post-game quests.Fuck those orb recipes, I cut my losses with those early in, I found an all MKS map before I successfully got one of those upgraded equipment pieces. Use a gameshark and hack those weapons/armor in, you pretty much have to now.
>>719686776If enough people buy it in a geographically dense population center like say the hub of an island empire, that's the best case scenario for using the DS's street link. So I'd believe it. The marketing was cool enough in the west, the US is just very spread out and rural and it still sold like a Japanese game in 2010 would.
>>719682851They actually tried and probably felt bad withholding the mmojrpg game prior to this ?
>>719686859IX has a boring main game and a bloated postgame, VII was just right, we need more games like it unironically.Actually now that I think about it I guess Atlus has been kinda doing the job pretty well with Persona/Metaphor (120 hour long RPGs with inferior graphics for the hardware) their graphics are just cleverly masked with fancy UIs rather than looking plain outdated.
