I'll start with Ghost Hunter, this game is literally a hidden gem and I urge anyone to play it.
>>719689594seems cool, thanks. sadly i don't know any obscure games
>>719689594Post some more? I wanna play lesser known stuff.
>>719690135Okay, The Mark Of Kri is another really cool game, pretty atmospheric, has unique controls, a good story that doesn't take up to much of your time, just an all around fun game.
>>719689594the only ps2 games i remember liking were Ratchet and clank 2, 3 and yugioh duelists of the roses.
>>719692650Sounds like those were the only games your parents bought you for the PS2 more like it.
A game where you have to time travel to prevent your own murder. It gets to the point where you travel back to the 16th century to stop a tree from being planted that your assassin hid in. It’s one of the most unique games I’ve ever played during a time where Konami could do no wrong.
>>719692796nuh uh. i bought a modded ps3 and recently played through a lot of ps2 games. i was more of a gamecube kind of guy back in the day.
Great puzzle game Zelda clone.
>>719689594>>719690690Played both of these (EU) when I was a kid, are these really obscure? I wouldn't say so.Anyways, I didn't really like Ghost Hunter that much. It was kinda meh. The Mark of Kri on the other hand was amazing, basically a pre-God of War in terms of brutality, also an original gameplay. Shame it was a bit short. Couldn't try the sequel because it was never released in EU. Another "hidden gem" from the PS2 was Haven:Call of the King.
>>719692842Fun fact: some of the team that worked on this game went on to be apart of silent hill 2
>>719689594I played it. Got stuck on the prison level boss as a kid. I liked the game overall, but absolutely hated the ghost alligators.
>>719689594I really like this game, don't care for the more well known prequel series though.
>>719692842This was an amazing game, I bought it at a garage sale for a few euros, in like 2010. Went completely blind into it. Holy shit it was such a hooking story.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjth8GjvsMQ
Souls/vidya-parody with some pretty damn great game mechanics.A lot of equipment starts out as pixelated shit but you can restore it to its original shape by carrying it to its place of origin in the game world which is hinted at by a vague clue in the item description.Doing so unlocks its proper model, better stats, its lore and stuff like special moves on weapons.
>>719692842>>719693092Definitely a great game. I would encourage everyone in this thread to play it since there’s also a pc version.
They lied to me - they never made a sequel
It feels really cheap but at the time, I fucking loved it
I dunno how obscure this game is but it was my favorite as a kid and I'm hoping one day I'll see it on the PSN store, I'd buy that shit immediately.
>>719689594
You're a camera man. You follow reporters reporting on a paranormal monster outbreak in their city. Dodgy acting and VA work, sure, but nothing like it around. Also, you are encouraged to film the female reporter's T&A for viewers.
GunroadGood luck running it. requires directdraw support from like win98 or xp to run at res higher than 240p. From what i gathered directdraw was like a early direct 3d
Tuned heart
I do like this game. $10 is a great price.https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP9000-PPSA21974_00-SLUS209930000000
>>719689594Ghost Hunter is pretty good, I just wish the swamp and boat levels were a bit shorter, they outstay their welcome and cut into the really good stuff like the swamp house or the prison segment. Funny enough, I also loved the 24 PS2 game and had no idea it was made by the same devs.
It's Jumping Flash but actually good.
>>719695561Wait the games just not 1 big swamp levels? It feels like I've been playing forever and its just a swamp.
>>719693640Thanks, I'm downloading this right now.
>>719689594Not gonna lie, it looks kino.
>>719696224Yeah that first swamp level is actually really ass, especially with those chainsaw gator ghosts that take forever to actually die. It nearly turned me off the game.
A tad too much backtracking and going over empty screens but overall a charming point'n'click game about exploring mysteriously deserted wizard academy. No moon logic or items combining, it's all logic puzzles.
>>719697573man i love older point n clicks with a cute lady protag
>>719692842Literally came into this thread just to post this game, but looks like someone else was based enough to beat me to it.
>>719689594RC Helicopter on PlayStation is great for a budget title. However the U.S. cover art is somehow even more boring than the Japanese cover art.
>>719697745Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy might interest you although I didn't get too far into this game to properly recommend it. You play as daughter of Nostradamus who has to disguise herself as her brother.
The Deception series in general. They're games in which the protagonist generally has no means of directly attacking, but can set up traps to eliminate whoever invades their lair. Traps are most effective when comboed together, and there's room for a lot of creativity in how to go about doing that. The games are generally pretty dark in tone and have branching plotlines.>>719695002I didn't really care for it, but it was certainly unique.
Nobody knows this game exist except for millennials and older Gen Z
>>719697745You reminded me of pic related. I only played demo long time ago but it does have cute lady protagonist.
>>719698829Forgot pic
theres nothing quite like it

>>719689594Considering it spawned a series Disaster Report is still incredibly obscure.
>>719690135Second Sight is pretty good
>>719695002brisco status?
>>719699005It's surprisingly fun for how much of an oddity it's perceived as being in the West.I still need to play Disaster Report 4 and City Shrouded in Shadow.
Better than Timesplitters 2
>>719699159Forgot my image. Timesplitters 2 is one of the worst coop games I've ever played, but Darkwatch is great.
>>719699196I really only like Timesplitters Future Perfect.>But it plays like Halo of Duty! And that's a good thing!
Cheesy ass resident evil knock off with co-op. Played it last Halloween with a friend and had a blast.
>>719689594this game came out around the same time as monster hunter and i thought they were related
>>719699430Is the sequel any good?
'Firefighter F.D.18', some cheap action game where you play a firefighter and use different tools to fight fires like they were enemies in other games, including giant boss fires. For when you want to get revenge after playing Disaster Report.I feel like a modern game like this would actually be a hit since it's conceptually something like Powerwash simulator except the stuff you have to spray with water can spread and fight back.
Probably not that obscure but I ended up really loving this game and was invested in the lore. Really liked how bleak the setting seemed to be but there a lot of genuine hope and the indominable spirit of mankind vibe it has going. Really wished this game got a Steam release over Freedom wars but it'll probably never happen.
>>719689594Bomberman GBA is a Zelda like that no one played
>>719699582More-of-the-same type sequel
>>719699663They're a couple modern firefighter games but from what I see they all looked like crappy simulator games.
>>719689594Part of the Warcraft 3 clone era. Too bad, it had a game breaking bug towards the campaign's end IIRC
>>719699908Armies Of Exigo was one RTS I really wanted to play. Anyone spoonfeed me an RAR file.
>>719699073I remember playing this as a kid and thinking if I skipped content because I swear I beat the whole game in 4-6 hours.
>>719689594The dark, rainy ambience of the prison setting was nice. Loved the boss fight with Frank Agglin (the electric boss), and exploring the jail cells to piece together what happened to him and his daughter was a nice touch. The latter half of the swamp level was among the more memorable parts of the game, when everything gets dark and Lazarus has to venture through Lady De Montford's wretched basement full of mutant giant teddybears that unironically uses toddlers to maul the player to death (picrel). The basement in itself as a setting had a twisted style to it (e.g. giant comatose babies trapped in big fish tanks, a giant puppet of De Montford rocking back and forth on a squeaky chair, flipping through sepia-tinted photos on a projector to see a girl getting devoured whole by an alligator). The boss fight with the giant inbred retard and the leviathan alligator beating the living shit out of each other I recall being insane. The Montsaye level (the highschool level) right after the swamp was pretty frightening with the haunted soundtrack, the Poltergeists, and the upgraded dark Spooks–and fun when Lazarus gets to the ghost librarian. The ship part seemed to be the draggiest level, but still enjoyed it nonetheless with the ghost captain and the soldier duo and the boss fight at the end with the giant tentacle monster. The last level, which was the laboratory one, was rather satisfying in that I could "kill" ghosts without having to capture them in a grenade.Overall, nice puzzles and weapon/enemy variety. Not to mention godlike soundtrack.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hezVqUKhGIA
>>719699274Was about to post this, the third game was pretty much the only good game.
>>719689594Single best transparency effects on PS2. Even tanks the framerate. Most of the game is good to ok.
>>719689594Couldn't beat it as a kid. I think it was the electric chair boss that filtered me.
>>719696183For underground /mu/sicians lurking, this game is a treasure trove of samples.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b9qdyUAEa4
>>719689594JRPGs aren't as common on Wii. Opoona is a one with life sim elements.Make sure to get the relocalization patch before you play it.
>>719699663There are a lot of firemen games from SNES to PS2 eras
>>719694685For me it was Music 2000
>>719699005Wish this played nicely on pcsx2, my PS2 died few years ago.>>719699143CSiS is great from what I've heard, though not worth grabbing expensive JP copy. Hack your PS4.DR4 is a letdown.
overblood 2 is my favorite overly ambitious ps1 action adventure game translated to english from japanese by barely trilingual italians
Underrated platformer.
>>719700658Based sampler
>>719694510Based take. Fun platforming and time trial type segments. Really fun working your way up through the different colored belts as well. Feels like so few people actually played this game.
>>719699196>Timesplitters 2 is one of the worst coop games I've ever playedAnd then you post a shit game like Darkwatch??? The game is literally destroy an enemy generator by throwing dynamite at it and walk down some hallways. Fuck off, that game was so disappointing.
>>719689594this was one of the first games that got dubbed in my country and the voice acting was horrible lol, they didn't even use real actors. other than that I don't remember much about it. it's a The Suffering for kids. wouldn't recommend it to an adult.
>>719699663It's a different genre but it reminds me of Fire Department (released in US as Emergency Fire Response and in UK as Fire Chief). Fun game. Apparently it had two sequels but I only played the first game.
Filtered me hard
>>719701996Only played Emergency 4. Very cool take on RTS + Management Sim
Underwater Ace Combat
>>719702121I think one of PS1 games was also underwater Ace Combat
>>719702085I only played Emergency 2 and if fire wasn't involved the game played more like puzzle game. I guess that could have change in later entries. Fun cutscenes btwhttps://youtu.be/1CJFFfobRH0?si=9_NIpCjXAe1CFnIV
Really like how punchy the machine gun feels in this game.
>>719690690This and the sequel were pretty challenging, especially the stealth.
>>719695014It just werks on my Linux machine, the only thing I needed to install is a program to run midi files.
Pic related and Vandal Hearts (if that one counts). I don't even like JRPG-style games.
https://youtu.be/cRvqQdOeq9wreally like the world this game is set in and it's got a good amount of hard scifi concepts that are thrown at you during the cutscenes
>>719695014Can't you just slap dgVooDoo 2 on it and tweak shit like most old games?
>>719703240>Legend of Kartia What's this and do I see correctly and the same artist behind FF4 concept arts worked on it? The portraits look uncanny similar.
>>719695014Damn I didn't expect guroLooks pretty neat either way
>>719698983>found an undub but the battle voices are still english
>>719703660It was called Kartia, the Word of Fate in the US. Kartia is this magic paper thing you can use to summon monsters, create equipment and do magic. You control a bunch of heroes and only some can summon various monsters for your army (you get new recipes while playing). Each type of monster has 3 variations that are effective against each other in a rock paper scissors system but the weapons also matter (sword is good for attacking on the same level, axe for attacking below you and spear to attack above you). You can use magic to alter the terrain or just wreck people. The magic system seemed complex and had a bunch of Japanese characters. The story was about some guy using forbidden kartia magic to create heaven on earth or something similar and you stopping him. I've heard people say it's similar to final fantasy tactics but I've never played that one. I didn't really know what I was doing when I played it as a kid and usually ended up wasting my kartia reserves on random shit like crafting then giving all my monsters good equipment (when monsters die they lose it all and it's game over if a hero dies).
>>719703660Don't know about the artists but I liked the portraits. The girls are cute.
There's also this elf chick if you're into that.
>>719703660Yoshitaka Amano did the artwork and the in-game portraits.
>>719698859Is that the isometric one on Playstation by Housemarque? Pretty sure I played this
>>719704607>>719704808Yeah, he has really specific artstyle.
>>719689594Picrel is unironically good
>>719704952I think he may have done the item art as well since I recall they looked so nice I would craft items just to look at them.
>>719689594Only time a Chris Roberts game got completed because his brother was the producer.
>>719689594Cool Wii JRPG with fun battle system.Just play the Undub patch if you value your ears
>>719689594Does this count as obscure?
>>719705795If you posted it before 2020, no.Now, yes.
>>719699793Some Nier/Drakengard like lore. This needed to be on other platforms. But since modern /v/ is allergic to good games, this will fail even if it gets ported.
>>719705795Considering my first thought was "what do you mean this game had a sequel?" I would say so.
Bullet Witch
>>719689594Poor ContraExcellent coop shooter
>>719689594Obscure Point-n-click adventure games are my jam
>>719706712Memoranda has just the right amount of magic in magical realism genre of fiction.
Not obscure, just forgotten.Hercules PS1 game is pretty good stage based 2.5D Platformer. Lovely animations too.
>We made Quake into a third person viking hack-n-slash action gameThis DESPERATELY needs a Nightdive remaster.Captcha : G00N0
>>719706712How are puzzles? Looks like adventure game that's light on them.>>719706826Loved to play this together with my brother.
>>719704989>SierraPicked up.
>>719707053Iirc they did make a sequel a couple years ago but it was rougelike trash.
Kurushi or I.Q. Whatever you call it. Not sure how obscure it is, but I never see in mentioned anywhere. Fun but challenging enough, strange atmosphere, John Williams rip-off soundtrack. Still play this once - twice a week if I need to kill 30 mins.
Here's a crazy idea, how about we make our fantasy adventure feel like a fun adventure and not a cinematic slog?
hobo beating simulator
>>719707226Got filtered more than I want to admit. One of the first "abstract art" games on PlayStation.
>>719707226I played the demo. interesting concept.
>>719707281Is it better than the first game?
>>719707559Much better.First game is a standard RPG with clunky gameplay systems (First proper implementation of Dark Eye systems after Realms Of Arkania). Second game doesn't fully resolve that, but everything else is so much better.
>>719707174Wait, this is like Chase HQ. I'll check it out.
>>719707398Oddly enough, the only time anyone I talk too has heard of this is cause they played the demo years ago and have no fucking idea what it was actually called. The whole game is more of the same though, gets pretty challenging and tense at points.
Panzer Bandit is like if Gunstar Heroes and Castle Crashers had a child. My only problem with it is that it's way too stingy with health pickups and the super armor heavy enemies are a pain.
>>719695140Avoid PS2 games on PS4/5. It's made by retards who can't code for shit, and introduced numerous problems.
>>719708615Holy fucking SOVL
>>719707816Shame we didn't get more crpgs in the system. Iirc there's a tactical game and a couple point'n'click game set in the universe for some reason, but not a proper rpg.
>>719705976The sequel impoved a bunch of stuff and added a camera invention system. You take pictures of stuff around the game world and combine the pics to create inventions. If you like the first one definitely play the second.
>>719709341The cover screams "We have Fable at home" to me.
>>719709779Of course, it's Microids. One of many AA/middleware European publishers.
>>719706938Nice game, had a lot of fun playing it. Also, Sheep Raider, one of my favorite games of all time, nice gameplay, amazing levels, funny moments, fucking amazing ost, man i love this game
>>719689594Wholesome little game with nothing wrong with it at all ^_^
>>719709880In Europe it was called Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf. It was pretty fun trying to figure out how to steal sheep.
>>719699430I like it solo as a nice atmospheric RE clone, you just have to ditch the AI co-op partner at the hub. >>719699582The sequel's plot is levels of retarded writing only the French can produce and absolutely worth playing for that alone, but it's too linear with de-emphasized survival elements to be a good RE-clone. Plus the retarded AI co-op partner is mandatory.
>>719699793Wasn't the Freedom Wars port a complete botch job? Sounds like it got spared.Soul Sacrifice used to get a lot of threads for its bizarre level art. Still pretty great. I remember it emulating pretty well but wasn't in the mood for a MonHun clone at the time.
>>719689594The graphics of this game was pretty damn good for 2003.
>>719706640>gets a PC port out of nowhere after a decade>said port is somehow a downgrade of the original
>>719689594>cover clearly has the title as 2 separate words>actually the title is "ghosthunter" and searching "ghost hunter" brings up everything BUT this game
>>719712489It was made before SEO existed.
>>719710014>>719709880The PS1 had some great puzzle games. Pic related.
>>719712489That's not true, Google brings up "ghost hunter ps2" before I even press enter.
>>719707959Can confirm that I wouldn't be able to remember the exact title if you put a gun to my head. I was thinking "cube", close enough I guess. I played that demo a lot but it's been a century.>>719713309Played this demo as well, another fun concept.
>New(er) and obscureGrapple Dogs Cosmic Canines was one of the best game I played last year, but nobody said a word about it and the game doesn't even have 200 Steam reviews. Adorable little robot boy.
chaos legionits amazing
I never hear anyone talk about this game, I played it when I was little thinking it was some cool thief/heist game. It kinda is but is more like an episodic story.I remember a bit of the train level, it reminds me of RE 0 as you switch between multiple playable characters with different abilities
Ate The Last Guardian's lunch years before The Last Guardian finally came out.
>>719716176And of course, I forget the image after it fails to post it once.
>>719689768same. This is probably the most obscure game I know. I wish it had twin stick controls instead of the weird tank-ish controls. You need to play it to know what I mean. It's clear it was made for the xbox last second so the right stick kind of acts like a guide for where to look but you can also change direction with it by clicking it in. Honestly if the sensitivity was a bit lower it would be a little less annoying too.
>>719699815So is Bomberman Quest on the GBC. Both are great Zelda clones with very funny senses of humor.
>>719715831I remember reading a preview of this game in a magazine. This was the last time I've heard about this game until now. Come to think of it's far not the only game I read about in magazine that just fell into memory hole. But I remember the premise sounded cool.
Pretty cool and pretty hard 2d platformer. from the studio behind F.E.A.R and Shadow of Mordor.
Beyond Oasis is one of the all-time best action-adventure games of the 2D era. It's like Zelda + Streets of Rage with fucking fantastic spritework and very atmospheric music by Yuzo Koshiro. It mogs the fuck out of LTTP and is absolutely worth your time if you like 16-bit games.
>>719701864same,was it Greek?
>>719700778This box always interested me, though I never got a chance to play it at the time. Is it actually fun?
I've literally never seen this posted or anybody saying they played it which is weird because it came with the PS2 in my cunt
>>719698821>Deception mentionedBased. I really enjoyed playing IV and liked that it plays the villain protag thing totally straight without any subversive bullshit, outside of one ending. Shame KT doesn't give a fuck about the series anymore. I'd really like to see a new one on PC if only so I can torture more hot girls with trap combos in 4K
>>719717571>Ninja Ninja Assault(tm) Assault
Metal Max series. JRPG series based on Mad Max, where you can build and customise tanks for your party to use.
Kamiwaza: Way of the The Thief is a very bizarre and unique PS2 game that I've never ever seen referenced on the internet before. The best way I can describe it is like a cross between Thief, Katamari Damacy, and the Way of the Samurai series. You go on missions to steal stuff in an old Japanese town while taking care of your sick daughter and battling both fellow thieves and corrupt cops. There's some fighting, but it's mostly about stealth and getting combos from stealing items in rapid succession. There are also an absolute ton of voluptuous women in kimonos, and a move where you can literally steal the clothing off of female townspeople in lieu of taking their money. It's not really a great game, but I'm sure that if it had been localized at the time it would be considered a cult classic today. It's on Steam and PSN, and I'd give it a try if you see it on sale for cheap. There's no other game like it.
