I'll start with Ghost Hunter, this game is literally a hidden gem and I urge anyone to play it.

seems cool, thanks. sadly i don't know any obscure games

Okay, The Mark Of Kri is another really cool game, pretty atmospheric, has unique controls, a good story that doesn't take up to much of your time, just an all around fun game.
>>
>>719689594
the only ps2 games i remember liking were Ratchet and clank 2, 3 and yugioh duelists of the roses.

Sounds like those were the only games your parents bought you for the PS2 more like it.

A game where you have to time travel to prevent your own murder. It gets to the point where you travel back to the 16th century to stop a tree from being planted that your assassin hid in. It’s one of the most unique games I’ve ever played during a time where Konami could do no wrong.
>>
>>719692796
nuh uh. i bought a modded ps3 and recently played through a lot of ps2 games. i was more of a gamecube kind of guy back in the day.
>>
Great puzzle game Zelda clone.
>>
>>719689594
>>719690690
Played both of these (EU) when I was a kid, are these really obscure? I wouldn't say so.
Anyways, I didn't really like Ghost Hunter that much. It was kinda meh.
The Mark of Kri on the other hand was amazing, basically a pre-God of War in terms of brutality, also an original gameplay. Shame it was a bit short. Couldn't try the sequel because it was never released in EU.

Another "hidden gem" from the PS2 was Haven:Call of the King.
>>
>>719692842
Fun fact: some of the team that worked on this game went on to be apart of silent hill 2
>>
>>719689594
I played it. Got stuck on the prison level boss as a kid. I liked the game overall, but absolutely hated the ghost alligators.

Souls/vidya-parody with some pretty damn great game mechanics.
A lot of equipment starts out as pixelated shit but you can restore it to its original shape by carrying it to its place of origin in the game world which is hinted at by a vague clue in the item description.
Doing so unlocks its proper model, better stats, its lore and stuff like special moves on weapons.

Definitely a great game. I would encourage everyone in this thread to play it since there’s also a pc version.

Ghost Hunter is pretty good, I just wish the swamp and boat levels were a bit shorter, they outstay their welcome and cut into the really good stuff like the swamp house or the prison segment. Funny enough, I also loved the 24 PS2 game and had no idea it was made by the same devs.

The Deception series in general. They're games in which the protagonist generally has no means of directly attacking, but can set up traps to eliminate whoever invades their lair. Traps are most effective when comboed together, and there's room for a lot of creativity in how to go about doing that. The games are generally pretty dark in tone and have branching plotlines.

I didn't really care for it, but it was certainly unique.

'Firefighter F.D.18', some cheap action game where you play a firefighter and use different tools to fight fires like they were enemies in other games, including giant boss fires. For when you want to get revenge after playing Disaster Report.
I feel like a modern game like this would actually be a hit since it's conceptually something like Powerwash simulator except the stuff you have to spray with water can spread and fight back.

The dark, rainy ambience of the prison setting was nice. Loved the boss fight with Frank Agglin (the electric boss), and exploring the jail cells to piece together what happened to him and his daughter was a nice touch.
The latter half of the swamp level was among the more memorable parts of the game, when everything gets dark and Lazarus has to venture through Lady De Montford's wretched basement full of mutant giant teddybears that unironically uses toddlers to maul the player to death (picrel). The basement in itself as a setting had a twisted style to it (e.g. giant comatose babies trapped in big fish tanks, a giant puppet of De Montford rocking back and forth on a squeaky chair, flipping through sepia-tinted photos on a projector to see a girl getting devoured whole by an alligator). The boss fight with the giant inbred retard and the leviathan alligator beating the living shit out of each other I recall being insane.
The Montsaye level (the highschool level) right after the swamp was pretty frightening with the haunted soundtrack, the Poltergeists, and the upgraded dark Spooks–and fun when Lazarus gets to the ghost librarian. The ship part seemed to be the draggiest level, but still enjoyed it nonetheless with the ghost captain and the soldier duo and the boss fight at the end with the giant tentacle monster. The last level, which was the laboratory one, was rather satisfying in that I could "kill" ghosts without having to capture them in a grenade.
Overall, nice puzzles and weapon/enemy variety. Not to mention godlike soundtrack.

It was called Kartia, the Word of Fate in the US. Kartia is this magic paper thing you can use to summon monsters, create equipment and do magic. You control a bunch of heroes and only some can summon various monsters for your army (you get new recipes while playing). Each type of monster has 3 variations that are effective against each other in a rock paper scissors system but the weapons also matter (sword is good for attacking on the same level, axe for attacking below you and spear to attack above you). You can use magic to alter the terrain or just wreck people. The magic system seemed complex and had a bunch of Japanese characters. The story was about some guy using forbidden kartia magic to create heaven on earth or something similar and you stopping him.
I've heard people say it's similar to final fantasy tactics but I've never played that one. I didn't really know what I was doing when I played it as a kid and usually ended up wasting my kartia reserves on random shit like crafting then giving all my monsters good equipment (when monsters die they lose it all and it's game over if a hero dies).

I like it solo as a nice atmospheric RE clone, you just have to ditch the AI co-op partner at the hub.

>>719699582
The sequel's plot is levels of retarded writing only the French can produce and absolutely worth playing for that alone, but it's too linear with de-emphasized survival elements to be a good RE-clone. Plus the retarded AI co-op partner is mandatory.

Wasn't the Freedom Wars port a complete botch job? Sounds like it got spared.
Soul Sacrifice used to get a lot of threads for its bizarre level art. Still pretty great. I remember it emulating pretty well but wasn't in the mood for a MonHun clone at the time.

Can confirm that I wouldn't be able to remember the exact title if you put a gun to my head. I was thinking "cube", close enough I guess. I played that demo a lot but it's been a century.

Played this demo as well, another fun concept.

>New(er) and obscure
Grapple Dogs Cosmic Canines was one of the best game I played last year, but nobody said a word about it and the game doesn't even have 200 Steam reviews. I understand that there's a glut of 2D indie platformers, but it's still a shame that one ended up flying under the radar.
>Old and obscure

It was one of those bargain bin games that my dad got when I was a kid. It's early 2000's as fuck with overly edgy humor and sex appeal but the driving and shooting is still really fun. Came back to it later as an adult and realized that the radio stations with hosts just talking about random shit is really funny.

I never hear anyone talk about this game, I played it when I was little thinking it was some cool thief/heist game. It kinda is but is more like an episodic story.
I remember a bit of the train level, it reminds me of RE 0 as you switch between multiple playable characters with different abilities

same. This is probably the most obscure game I know. I wish it had twin stick controls instead of the weird tank-ish controls. You need to play it to know what I mean. It's clear it was made for the xbox last second so the right stick kind of acts like a guide for where to look but you can also change direction with it by clicking it in. Honestly if the sensitivity was a bit lower it would be a little less annoying too.

I remember reading a preview of this game in a magazine. This was the last time I've heard about this game until now. Come to think of it's far not the only game I read about in magazine that just fell into memory hole. But I remember the premise sounded cool.

Beyond Oasis is one of the all-time best action-adventure games of the 2D era. It's like Zelda + Streets of Rage with fucking fantastic spritework and very atmospheric music by Yuzo Koshiro. It mogs the fuck out of LTTP and is absolutely worth your time if you like 16-bit games.

Based. I really enjoyed playing IV and liked that it plays the villain protag thing totally straight without any subversive bullshit, outside of one ending. Shame KT doesn't give a fuck about the series anymore. I'd really like to see a new one on PC if only so I can torture more hot girls with trap combos in 4K

Kamiwaza: Way of the The Thief is a very bizarre and unique PS2 game that I've never ever seen referenced on the internet before. The best way I can describe it is like a cross between Thief, Katamari Damacy, and the Way of the Samurai series. You go on missions to steal stuff in an old Japanese town while taking care of your sick daughter and battling both fellow thieves and corrupt cops. There's some fighting, but it's mostly about stealth and getting combos from stealing items in rapid succession.

There are also an absolute ton of voluptuous women in kimonos, and a move where you can literally steal the clothing off of female townspeople in lieu of taking their money. It's not really a great game, but I'm sure that if it had been localized at the time it would be considered a cult classic today. It's on Steam and PSN, and I'd give it a try if you see it on sale for cheap. There's no other game like it.
