EOS for Windows 10 is in about 1 month time. Have you upgraded to Windows 11?

Inb4 Linux, we are on /v/ and play video games

I don't consider a bricked PC much of an upgrade.
>>
>>719691956
No. Why should I?
>>
>>719692000
You are not going to get anymore security updates
>>
Pajeet, look, i blocked my W10 updates months ago, i literally do not care
>>
What would windows 11 even do for me?
>>
>>719692029
What's the worst that could happen?
>>
>>719692120
Plenty. You can try by reinstalling windows 10 and then refusing all upgrades.
>>
>>719691956
Why would I want any "support" from MS?
>>
>>719691956
what for lmao
>muh security

>>
I use Arch Linux and play more games than 99% of /v/

Mostly older games on Retroarch though

I haven't used Windows since 2012 when I was 16.

There must just be a massive difference in my IQ because I realized using a proprietary OS from Microsoft as my main system was retarded even as a teenager.
>>
>>719691956
The elites don't want you to know this but you don't actually need updates, you can just disable them immediately after installing the OS and nothing bad happens.
Also, software keeps working on it for years after they start dropping it from the minimum reqs.
>>
If I was a hacker or owned a botnet, I would be very happy with these responses.
>>
Thank you Mr.Microsoft employee
>>
Oh yeah, that happens next month.
(Mostly) not my problem since I switched to linux a decade ago. Might check with my brother about what he wants to do.
>>

hackers aren't going after neckbeards playing vidya in their mom's basements.
they're going after large companies that have databases full of customer information.

>You are a Microsoft developer and must develop your pre-alpha release on a pre-pre-alpha version of that same OS, before finally releasing an alpha version to the public that will be deprecated by the next alpha release as soon as it gets into beta. You will never develop on a stable and usable OS.
I imagined that second and it was pure torment, I can't imagine what a prolonged existence of this would be like.

IP law has naturally incentivized entities that produce next to nothing and do nothing other than keep up with bureaucracy, and at that point their income from their audience is dwarfed by their income from tertiary sources like the stock market and government gibbs, which has just further incentivizes them to reduce the disruptiveness of what is supposedly their primary market until it is purely performative. Reducing disruptiveness means setting much more firm cutoff dates and preventing surprise longevity or even modding competition.

I'm employed, but this inane shit you've spouted is not why I prefer windows. My job doesn't force anything on my personal computer, maybe that's a US thing where you guys willingly let your bosses intrude your personal life.
I prefer windows because thankfully they're still using the same exact windows kernel since Windows NT, so every bullshit Jeet software contraption they try to shoehorn can easily be disabled by tweaking the registry. It's literally a 5 minute task, and then the OS can be used normally.

It's not the same on Linux. I have raspbian on my raspberry since I like to pirate virtually everything, and having a transmission client running 24/7 remotely accessible is actually useful. For the first fucking time I had to use chat-gpt because forums were useless in explaining how to setup samba and transmission to run at startup and to actually configure them. It wasn't hard after I got the gist of it, but I can't imagine doing that for everything on my main PC.

It really isn't, especially with tons of easy-mode distros like Bazzite which are arguably more locked-down and baby mode than Windows. The issue is that people are used to "Windows", and no matter how simple Linux actually is, you can only get so much "Windows" in Linux. It requires a sustained impulse against the inertia of convenience.

I'm enjoying having swapped to linux but there are just a few things that can be troublesome.
Running games that use mods or external mod loading tools can be very fickle
Certain online multiplayer games don't work either.

LTSC takes like five minutes to install unless you wanna get more involved with the install by modifying the ISO, which I wouldn't recommend unless you know what you're doing. /fwt/ over on /g/ has a decent guide otherwise. You don't even have to pay for it or jump through any real hoops to get the ISO, the activation script is legitimate. You download the image, flash it to a boot disk, install it, then run a powershell script to activate it, it's so easy a 60 IQ monkey could do it. That said, there's guides on debloating Win11 as much as possible, but it's not as clean as 10 IoT LTSC and likely won't until Microsoft switches from that to a Win11 LTSC version towards the end of its lifespan.

If you're unsure, you can always run a dualboot setup to test each one, storage is dirt cheap if you're not comfortable playing with partitions. You just have to point all your stuff to a partition or drive away from the OSs so you don't have to duplicate your data. Most people running Linux here have a similar setup for gaming.

I installed 10 IoT LTSC on my first PC build and it was relatively easy. At worst I had to jump through one or two hoops to download some missing drivers but so far my PC has been running flawlessly, and activating Windows is as searching massgrave and running a script which takes less than a minute.

My concern right now is that I have a 5+ year old laptop with W10 Home, and by old I mean 4GB of soldered RAM and a 125 GB SSD, but other than the battery being completely dead and need of replacement and Wi-Fi unable to detect 5G, it's still running fine, so now I need to look into how to replace the OS while keeping all of the files, since my mom also uses it and she has a lot of information there. Worst case scenario, I'll just back everything up in my external HDD and do a clean install.

In-place upgrade is usually pretty safe with your files, but the best thing to do is to minimise the partition you keep the OS on and move all the data that matters to you over to a separate partition. Doing this keeps your data safe from anything going wrong during install or upgrade short of a total disk failure.

It's not that it doesn't work on W7, it's that it requires the newer version of Steam to work.
VxKex works because it tricks Steam into thinking your OS is W10/11 and allow Steam to get updated.
afaik the only issue is that VxKex can trigger anti-cheats, but I haven't played online in a while so I'm not entirely sure which ones does.

I was minding my own business on Windows 7ā„¢ , and the instant the EOS date hit, suddenly 30 TB of trojans and malware instantly downloaded on my machine because of all the vulnerabilities and bugs and vulnerabugs.

Don't do my mistake, update to Windows 11ā„¢ for only $139.00 (price may vary depending on your region, Microsoftā„¢ is not responsible for any damage caused to your machine after subscription to a Microsoftā„¢ license)

Microsoft bricking your machine didn't happen.
And if it did, it's recoverable.
And if it's not, that's because your machine was too old.
And if it's brand new, that's because you didn't updated your drivers.
And if you did, it was an accident and it won't happen again.
And if they did it again, you deserved it.

So far I haven't run into a game that just flat out won't work. I play the full spectrum of crap from old emulated games to modern anti-cheat infested slop, to modded bethshit. Strangely the most annoying game to get working was DoW2, which was supposedly native, but it was easy once I found out how you're actually supposed to run it. The way wine works is by intercepting Windows API calls and then translate them into equivalent POSIX syscalls. A malware can depend on syscalls that are not well implemented or not implemented at all, reason why it is harder do make non-game software work, like Photoshop.

Also, malware might be targeting well know paths, like your browser session that is usually in C:\, wine will expose the root filesystem in something like X:\ but if it doesn't have the right permissions, malware won't be able to do much damage. There is no 100% safe system and the user can always do really dumb shit.

No I'm just going to cope and pretend like I'm never upgrading or that 11 is meaningfully more spyware or shitty than 10 which I also said was spyware in 2016. Then I will complain when 11 is end of life and they want me to move to 12.

I’m fucked, I have and nvdia card and drivers on linux are a fucking nightmare to install

FO3, NV and 4 work with mods, same goes for Oblivion and Skyrim.

I've been playing them since 2018 on Linux and it used to be more of a hassle to install them but not anymore.

The people who stick with old Windows are interesting. They are tech savvy enough to care about Windows being glorified malware, but still stupid enough to not know how to minimize it or switch to Linux. It must be a tough existence.

>EOS for Windows 10

So? It's still going to work fine for many, many years. The time to ditch Windows 10 is when the majority of new video games specifically require Windows 11 or higher in order to run. That will not happen for a long, long time because there are currently billions of Windows 10 users worldwide.
>>
>>719737587
I will try again, because I got the issue about the mok key when I installed mint
>>
>>719737524
Are they? Even on most meme distros you pretty much just need to copy-paste a terminal command on two I feel like.

>>719737606
Does MO2 just work out of the box on Linux? Biggest issues I've had with Linux gaming so far is modding. It's staggering how many games/mods rely on some wonky ass programs or installers go get things working properly.
>>
>>719691956
What the fuck? Is it 2032 already?
>>
>>719737857
Thank fuck I'm not braindead enough to run games that require installing a fucking rootkit to function.

>Does MO2 just work out of the box on Linux?
Getting modded FNV to work was the first and one of the easiest things I had to do. Not sure if you'd consider it out of the box, but the only extra step was running the modding software through steam so it could run through Proton. Everything exists in a "virtual" windows install that Proton/steam handles itself.
>>
>>719738115
I’m tempted to try steam os directly on my pc instead of going with a common distro

Better to go with something like Bazzite that gives you a more normal desktop experience

If you're going to use massgrave to activate LTSC you may as well just stay on whatever version of windows 10 you're on and use the massgrave extended update spoofer. You don't need to swap to LTSC.

Steam still works. The only stupid shit is downloading got fucked last year with their new compression system because it only works on the newer versions of Steam.
The files can still be downloaded using third parties which mean Valve doing this is really just to suck off Microsoft by trying to force their customers to update their OS.

There's no reason to not use 11 Pro. Getting baited by 4chan to sticking with 7 / 10 is peak retardation.
>>
>>719748707
Depends, sometime it'll detect that you're on Windows 7 and will update to the last working update, sometime it says fuck it and installs the latest update, so Steam won't open and you need to downgrade it first, but then it won't try to update again afterward thankfully.
There's guides for it, like this one
https://www.reddit.com/r/windows7/comments/1hf976r/full_guide_on_how_to_install_steam_after/
You can also use external stuff to trick Steam into thinking you're on W10/11 and open regardless, like VxKex, if you aren't worried about downloading something which entire job is injecting DLLs into your softwares.
>>
>Have you upgraded to Windows 11?
no, Microsoft said Windows 10 was the last edition of Windows so there is no need to worry.

>>719747454
