Best way to tell is to just play it yourself, though I think the beginning is worse than when the game really gets going.The combat is quite good. Perfect parrying and perfect dodging are core parts of the combat but it doesn't fall in the trap of becoming overtly focused on forcing you to be on the defensive while baiting enemies so you can perfect parry punish or whatever. You can certainly do that, but there's enough flexibility and there are enough options to allow you to be aggressive too, without always eating shit for it. There are plenty of things and combos that you can use to stagger and even interrupt enemies, bosses included. It opens up more after the very early game, which is partly why I think the early game is a bit weaker. Combat looks stylish and flashy, Eve's animation are very good. Overall it's quite fast as well, but there are combos and moves you have to commit to as well and you cannot dodge- or parry-cancel out of everything. On Normal difficulty the game isn't that hard but you can't be asleep at the wheel either. There's a difficulty spike with the last 2-3 bosses in the game though.The game has both mostly linear levels with side-paths to explore and shortcuts to earlier areas to unlock but also big, open-world-ish areas. There are plenty of side-quests available and plenty of optional content too and the exploration is pretty good (there are a lot of hidden things to find). Some bits are slightly Metroid-ish in that you need later upgrades to be able to access some areas.In terms of setting I think it's alright but nothing revolutionary, same for story. I don't think they are particularly noteworthy but don't drag the game down either. Music is very good. On the technical side, the game runs very well and looks good, with the exception of some ugly textures.
For the sequel I hope we get less deserts and more forests and maybe a jungle. I wouldn't say not to an underwater section either.

I think making multiple playable characters takes too much time and resources compared to just giving EVE an expanded kit with different weapons/skills. The choice is either to build different playable characters, which are basically different kits, but not be able to use those kits for the entire game, assuming the game remains a single-person action game and doesn't turn into a party-based system like FF7 Remake or Genshin Impact, or expand the kit of a single playable character, adding more options, depth, and variety, which can be used throughout the entire game (although still limited by the progression/unlocking process in the first playthrough). The latter is a more efficient use of resources. While I get the fun in having multiple playable characters, the effect of separate playable characters (kits) is cosmetic and also tied to a narrative. Instead of just having access to a much bigger kit for the entire game, there'll be times where the story will demand Character A be playable, but not Character B. Then the story will change and Character B will be playable, but not Character A. Basically, you'll be losing the kit of the other playable character often, having a good chunk of the combat options locked away. Additionally, you may also expect that any playable character cannot be killed off, so it takes away some of that narrative tension. I'm not saying it can't happen, but, at least for me, I'm keeping my expectations for the sequel modest. It's going to be an iterative sequel that takes much of what existed in the first game and builds, expands, and refines it. They're not going to do any thing drastic and they're still a relatively new, inexperienced, and small development team.
