Royal has more improvements from P5 than SMT VV does from SMT V. I like both, but Royal is a better game and probably easier to get through. SMT VV COV is an improvement and has better combat than basically any SMT or Persona game, but exploration still sucks, story is still aimless, characters are improved, but still kind of boring. IV and 3 did the setting a lot better and it feels like this game tries to call back to 3 the wrong way. Royal simply does more and for most part, it's an easier hang. I'd eventually play SMT VV when you can, but if you had to pick one, it's Royal.
