>>719769618Yes, quite literally not like that. There is a reason those roulettes are dead, because nobody likes doing them.
>>719769424no that's not good. relics should be gotten from specific content made for the relic. doing roulettes or old already used content is not memorable and should never be reused for a new relic weapon. besides that, the unique relic content should get harder and harder as you progress your relic. not every player should get the highest level relic. there needs to be peaks to climb to in mmos or it just turns into boring tedium.

Most just decided to spam ARF (also not roulettes, targeted grinding).ShB relics were progressed in Bozja and, again, even if you did the outside Bozja options you did not get progress from roulettes but by targeting specific content.>Nevermind the fact that relics are inherently long-term welfare weaponsIt's not welfare when you have to get off your ass and play the game to earn it.
so where does the combat system even go from here, the jobs, the leveling, etc.if level 100 is our true cap, do we do some skill tree ascension shit now? do we tune up pre-existing parts of the hotbar to new tiers and paths? do they keep bloating our shit?people say they should do an expansion of just retuning the systems and jobs altogether, no new jobs, but that shit doesn't sell on a box point, so at least one new job is inevitable, despite really not having any mechanical reason to continue adding more jobs.and now everything is super mobile and even the black mages are losing their turret status to be able to handle raids, so at that point where do you tread the line towards being an action MMO
>>719769560Great hill to die on
>>719769886they either let you start tweaking abilities to do different things or you just don't get anythingwhich is fine since most classes haven't meaningfully changed since shadowbringers
>>719769886we can only speculate what SE will do. but if they know what is good for the game they will re-raise the skill ceiling of jobs so that good players get to do better dps again (they have been actively lowering the skill ceiling since Shadowbringers, Stormblood was peak job design)
>>719769886I'm guessing they're doing some kind of broader system since Yoshida's playing trickster in interviews about what he has planned for them and he was digging his heels in about not nerfing Pictomancer this expansion. Pictomancer and Viper also both show some amenability to the idea of stances returning, twinblade attacks are a stance system under the hood and RGB/CMY are essentially a stance.>even the black mages are losing their turret status to be able to handle raidsThey're still pretty turret-y even if I get what you're driving at.
>>719769886Set 100 as the permanent level cap. Use that opportunity to redistribute skills through the leveling process so it doesn't feel awful to play anything lower than level 80.Create some kind of alternate advancement past 100 whether it be skill trees, or you just choose what order you unlock skills in, or merit points, or subjobs, I don't know, anything as long as it's not leveling up to 110.Tell parsetrannies to kill themselves and make the jobs FUN.
Ok, so next major story patch one of the Scions will die for real as a big plot point, and against all odds it is Y'shtola. Who is the most likely candidate and why?
>>719769886They split the vocations into two which splits the new traits into two. And we only get traits.Paladin turns into battle priest or Captain America. One does big spells and better group mitigation, the other better personal mitigation and mega shield lobs.BLM turns into speedmage with 1.3s cast times or megaturret 3000.
>>719770176G'raha because they can't afford his English VA anymore.
>>719770141Yoshida is much too conservative of a producer to even consider leaving leveling out of the next expansion
>>719770141something nobody seems to talk about is that potential leveling reworks will also require that skills not be granted by job quests which will remove some of the point of them but also be better for jobs' health in the long term
>>719770176none of the scions will die. the term you're looking for is getting put on a bus like lysein order of most likely to disappear from the story to least:g'rahauriangerthancredestinienkrileyshtola alphinaudalisaie
>>719770141>Tell parsetrannies to kill themselves and make the jobs FUN.not sure what you mean by this, the "parsetrannies" want what you want. jobs are way too easy to play and parsing is just spamming the same fight 200 times until you get the perfect crit RNG.make jobs great again by making it possible to fuck up. the possibility of failure is what makes games fun. it creates tension and excitement in the gameplay. the wheat must be separated from the chaff. unskilled players should not be able to beat raid dps checks until months after the fight is out (weekly gear will make up for their lack of dps). fights should be tuned so only the best of the best players can clear week 1, and playing optimally should be 100x more difficult than it is currently.
>>719770290I think job quests just getting you the optional gear sets sounds entirely fine
>>719770338>not sure what you mean by this, the "parsetrannies" want what you want.No they don't, because they've cried until every bit of soul was ripped out of every single job for the sake of """""balance""""". Where's my Royal Road AST, faggot? Killed by you and your tranny freak brethren. Jobs being fun means jobs being unique, and that means you all have to hang.
>>719770195They've been saying for years that's the one thing they'll never do again after ACN > SMN/SCH, because their internal systems can't deal with it reliably.
Its not even that its too hard. The actual mechanics are not hard at all.Its that its disgustingly punishing by kicking you out on a single wipe while also having like 10 mechanics per boss that instantly wipe you on someone's personal mistake, takes a minimum of 24 people and requires farming back things to do it again. As a savage raider I just dont want to deal with 23+ people and a forced time out the moment anyone makes a single misstep. Having to wait to retry what is just a mediocre yet overly punishing instance is not my idea of having fun in this game. Specially not when Floptom Jobs are boring as shit and made exclusively around FT.Meanwhile, Bozja raids? You can do then with 4-6 people. You have way more agency and lost actions exist for fun and experimentation. Bozja stayed alive naturally for longer for a reason.
>>719770380not like some of those job quests were very competent tutorials anyway. some tried to teach you step by step and force short instanced trials to learn what you just got, and then you got shit like ninja which finally unlocks the full kit at the tail end and goes "uuuhh fuck it we're in a rush, just figure it out as you go lol". never mind that for all the extra effort they've put into making more role tutorial stuff for people to go through in learning how the game works (which is still too easy to waltz right past and ignore), there's not a goddamn thing for learning the jobs up front and how their rotations work without looking online and practicing the old fashioned way.
>>719770402no one complains about "balance" except casuals who are terrified of the idea of "their job" getting excluded from party finder because it's too weak to clear the tier week 1 (this has never been the case in FFXIV but it should be, not every job has to be meta, hardcore players are happy to switch jobs)
>>719770141>Create some kind of alternate advancement past 100 whether it be skill trees, or you just choose what order you unlock skills in, or merit points, or subjobsIf only. This would be ideal and actually fun for any sort of player identity. But they refuse to dip their toes into making FFXIV an actual RPG because of parse faggots as you said. It would also solve the Thief to Ninja or Archer to Bard problem where people liked the original theme of the job but hated the theme it eventually becomes
>>719770512Kill yourself, you lying freak. I've sat here for the past 13 years and watched you do it. I can go into the Balance right now and see you stupid faggots crying about how TBN needs to remove its fail state because it's not fair that you can lose damage if you don't use it right. And next expansion you'll be blaming casual shitters for the change you demanded, like you always do. Casuals don't even know what the fuck a Royal Road is.
>>719769259As you can see from my screenshot here, I can turn the settings up high, but I need to reduce the number of other players on screen massively. And god help me if I try to play any other graphically intensive game. Fortunately I can keep at least enough other players on screen for some good old Big Black Roegadyn ERP.
>>719770713Looking for the funny in this post and I ain't finding it
>>719770586>the Balancethose freaks do not represent my opinions on the game. perhaps i was mistaken by saying parsers want jobs to be fun. what i meant was that i want parsing to be fun and actually mean something. i want there to be ways to fuck up if you don't do something right. i want the fuck ups to be catastrophic. if you fuck up your rotation you should not be able to meet the dps check (with week 1-2 gear) and fucking up your rotation should be easy to do if you aren't paying attention (make jobs harder that's all kthx)
>>719770770he's not using a thread he said he wasn't going to use to tell a joke no one thinks is funny
>>719770338you're never getting what you want thenin a recent (literally a week ago) vgc interview yoshi stated that their top priority with job and content balance is ensure the gameplay experience is as smooth as possible for new playershe then went on to say that job design as of shb is a result of player feedback asking for a more "averaged-out experience for playing each job," so that they play as similarly as possible for accessibility's sakeHe then goes on to state, verbatim:>When it comes to the next expansion, if we took on the player feedback that they want the jobs to be more complicated, and if we made those adjustments, then eventually we would get the same kind of feedback that we wouldn’t be able to satisfy all of the playerswhat we have now is what we're getting in 8.xby yoshi's words it might even get worse
>>719770824you're getting MOBA gameplay and you're going to like itpvp is already only a couple steps away from it
>>719770795>those freaks do not represent my opinions on the gameThose are the parsetrannies in question.>dude SMN and RDM should lose their unique abilities because MUH DAMAGEI can't describe how much I hate this fucking discord and all the damage they have done to the game.>i want parsing to be fun and actually mean something.>i want there to be ways to fuck up if you don't do something right.Me too, but that means jobs being unique and that's something we can't have because of these motherfuckers.
>>719770427>You can do then with 4-6 people.Meanwhile in reality you're not clearing because the 4 other people didn't use any lost actions
>>719770338I think that's going way too far for no good reason.I'd be happy if doing a difficult optional rotation were a 5-10% damage increase. That would still mean the existence of a challenging rotation.Raising the skill floor of doing decent DPS too much would make clearing fights in PF almost impossible. Maybe you don't care about that, but I hugely prefer the current PF experience to what it was in Heavensward
>>719770883but that's not what he's saying in that screenshot?smn/rdm doing less damage because of the rez is the developer's justification, if they do remove it in 8.0 then it would make sense that they would raise the damage
>>719771059Yes he is, he's saying that it's fine they lose their unique abilities because then he can see his ACT number is equal to PCT.
>>719770860if ff14 pvp was like a moba then i'd be able to easily click on on an enemy to target them.
>>719770824the solution is skill trees with branching paths, make one easy to play (on par with current job complexity) and make another higher difficulty. different jobs could have different aspects of difficulty (such as high APM, buff/debuff managements, on the fly decision making, etc), but every job can have an easy/hard mode specialization with the hard mode allowing for greater dps output IF you play it well
>>719771120so are you saying tab target mmos are easier than mobas?because they are yes. number of buttons =\= complexity
I think this is a big part of itA full set of elemental gear made you do like 100% damage and take half as much damage allowing you to go wonky things like tank in 5/2+2 gear is 4.5% extra damage on top of +1. The only class that seems to care is SCH who’s spreadlo’s get even more bonkers from the extra mind stat
>>719771140>make one spec good and one spec badthanks, gurgthock, i'll file that under "R-words" for "Really Good Ideas"
>>719771108in what part of that sentence does the word "fine" show up
>>719771190it is a good idea, because casuals will get to enjoy the game and do all the content (except the most high end content when it first releases, content that they supposedly don't touch anyway) with their easy rotations, and hardcore players will get to enjoy the game and do their hardcore content with satisfying job gameplay
BA has a clear rate of like 10% across the global playerbase.Bozja raids have between 5 to 7 times that clear rate with around half the time since their release than BA.So yeah, while not ''no one'', certainly not a relevant amount of people enough to make OC, which its zone and power system exists exclusively to farm for FT, functional and alive outside of relic steps. Once people get one relic, OC will die.Meanwhile, Bozja stayed high on activity until earlier this year. Did 2 weeks of Bozja with new and returning people, naturally and without the help of discord servers.
>>719771140I can see PF filled with "hard mode job or kick" parties, no matter how badly people played in them. Avoiding situations like that is close to first priority for the devs. I don't mean it should be that way, but it is
>>719771190He didn't say one good and one bad, he said one hard and one easy. Someone who's shit at button mashing could contribute more to a group on, say, a buff-heavy BRD spec than they would be able to on the current john fucking madden spec.
>>719771298>"uhhhhhhhhhh he didn't say GOOD and BAD">one does more damage than the other
>>719771264nta but it really isn't because you're simply blanket sweeping the idea across easy/hard without thinking of the rippling effects and connotations that it would bring with it.is every raid balanced around the hard path jobs because easy doesn't get the job done? oops, now anyone that plays easy, or even prefers it despite mastering hard, are told to fuck off and die. how do you balance future content around 21 jobs now split into two "difficulties" each, becoming 42 things to balance around in mind right off the bat? is the "hard version" worth the actual challenge and difficulty needed to utilize it or is it effectively a pointless and bloated experiment that may as well not happen?you're better off just re-implementing Cross Job systems in a different way than they originally were than trying to do that nightmare.
They should look at what people actually engaged with.Bozja Raids' engagement rates go from 5 to 7 times more than Eureka's BA.I dont know who told them that Baldesion Arsenal 2 was something people wanted when less than 10% of the playerbase has even wanted to clear it since it came out.

>>719771418Forgoing what I personally want and considering what's realistic for them to do, I think adding chances to optimize your rotation by careful timing and fast reactions sounds close to the best we can get. In other words, it would just be improving on the current skill equalizing design goal
>>719771623Who cares? Why are so many people obsessed with treating all side content as exp farms? You could have had every single job at level cap half a year before OC released if you just did dailies.
>>719771418>>719771403it's not that i want job specializations to be hard coded to be "good" and "bad" i want there to be a more difficult spec and an easier spec, and obviously the more difficult spec should be capable of higher damage output or there would be no reason to play it except for funwhen it comes to balancing content, balance it depending on the tier of content it is. savage and ultimates should be balanced for the highest level play (savage only for week1/2 before gear starts to make it easier), meta specs required for week 1. extreme level content has always been very easy on dps checks, it can stay that way, anything easier is a nonfactor in balance.
>>719771623They might be worried about dungeon queues getting longer
>>719757652meanwhile what its actually about:https://youtu.be/z7PJf9dqRkY?si=ECunuCZH6Wm1hFby
I don't even think it's that: OC is FAR closer to Bozja than to Eureka.OC is basically Bozja, just take the more mid/bland parts of it, and then slap on the WORST parts of Eureka for some reason, with none of the charm.Okay, the FF5 Jobs thing is kind of charming, but only until you get your hands on them. And I don't want to fault them too bad - I think they were genuinely trying something new,the multiple slotted actions in stead of just 2 for Logos/Lost Actions, to give something a little closer to the "feel" of a FF5/Tactics/XI SubJob system...but it is just too think to work and too close to the standard Job CD system for the MOST part, with a few random exceptions (like Berserker) that are...often likely to get you killed and mess up your rotation entirely, lolThis wasn't "They listened to Eureka fanboys wanting Eureka 2". This was "They listed to Eureka haters, listened to Bozja haters, and then did what both of them complained about the MOST in one zone"!
>>719771806I miss engaging writing in the MSQ. I really wish they can get their shit sorted out for the next expansion
>>719771721>not "good" and "bad", simply "more damage" and "less damage"
>>719771928I just want to say that you replaying without (you)ing looks really autistic
>>719771980casuals don't care about being good or bad, they barely press their buttons as is. if you are someone who plays to the best of their ability just pick the better spec, what's the problem? you now have engaging gameplay and the casuals can't complain because they have an easy option.
>>719772026>casuals don't care about being good or bad, they barely press their buttons as is.Casuals aren't MSQ Andies, they're people that play normal mode raids and maybe an EX trial. They're also people that know Samurai felt better to play when it had Kaiten and had more than one kenki draw.
>>719772026I'd say "bad players who don't realize it" are a much bigger or at least louder that the group that would happily play in casual mode. As mentioned before, your design is an inevitable catastrophe for PF, in addition to going against many philosophies that the dev team just isn't going to go against
>WarriorBerserk now reduces GCD time to 1 second. Berserk replaces the first step of WAR's combo with Fell Cleave, the second step with Inner Chaos, and the third step with Primal Rend.Fell Cleave now gives the target a stacking vulnerability up.Inner Chaos gives the WAR a vuln up, but increased damage dealt.Primal Rend deals massive damage while also wiping all vuln ups and damage ups.-The amount of vuln ups consumed by Primal Rend will increase the WAR's max HP.When Berserk ends, the WAR is inflicted with a 5 second Pacification.Shake It Off is now learned at level 30 and gives a different bonus effect based on the buff consumed.-When consuming Pacification, Shake grants the party a damage buff.-When consuming Thrill of Battle it grants the party increased max HP.-When consuming Damnation the party will deflect one instance of incoming damage. All of the damage.Bloodwhetting is deleted.>PaladinCover redirects all of a party member's incoming damage to the Paladin with a 25% reduction and a guaranteed block. Cover is now on a 30 second cooldown.Intervention rushes the PLD in front of the target party member and absorbs all damage with a guaranteed block.Shield Swipe returns as an OGCD triggered by all blocks. When cast under Divine Veil, Clemency becomes a partywide heal with a significant regen attached.Spirits Within/Expiacion now does damage based on the PLD's current HP.Holy Circle inflicts Blind.Holy Sheltron may be cast on a party member.
even at the game's most complex it still wasn't hard. why do you want to be the biggest kid in the kiddie pool when games with far, far higher skill floors exist?
>>719771980I used to be a Koji apologist, but playing content he translated after years of more straightforward translation feels pretty jarring with the dialogue filling the UI to the brim and having constant jokes and references, especially in side quests. I still think most of it is charming
>>719771457>DRN is required by the plot, and gives you a taste for DRS.>DRS has some hard moments but for the most part is completely carry-able by good players.>You can just queue into it.Its weird to me they made so many qol and updates to bozja from eureka then just abandoned them, then they were shocked people didnt like occult crescent.
>>719772170>They're also people that know Samurai felt better to play when it had Kaiten and had more than one kenki draw.sounds like they should pick the spec that suits them then, including an easier version of the job just makes it so loudmouths can't cry "JOB TOO HARD" and get it dumbed down, they would already have the dumbed down version available.>>719772191i can't argue with this, but my thing is that i want jobs to be fun to play, and i also want content that is designated as "difficult" to be difficult, that goes hand in hand with jobs being harder to play. if i had to pick one way or the other i would prefer jobs to be harder to play, the "easy spec" option is merely an olive branch for the people who would cry for simplification because "job too hard"
bozja is dogshit.
>>719772281Learning the exact timing to do the maximum number of Fell Cleaves as a WAR was fun in Heavensward, and dropping defensive mode to add damage was exciting. None of the later iterations have been nearly as fun to play. Also, I don't care at all comparing myself to other players
>Dark KnightBlood Weapon grants all of the DRK's attacks a 50% HP drain effect.Souleater is now a buff that causes all GCDs to drain 25% of the DRK's health to increase their potency.Current Souleater is replaced by Power Slash.Bloodwhetting is granted to DRK.Blood Price returns, granting the DRK MP whenever damage is taken.Blood Weapon and Souleater may be maintained indefinitely with no cooldown but costs MP. The proc from TBN can be used for these as well.DRK learns Dread Spikes, which converts a portion of incoming damage to healing. If the DRK is at full health it's converted to bonus health.Delirium combo now has a cast time to wind up the strikes but damage is significantly increased. A finished combo grants a drain effect and damage buff to the party.>GunbreakerBloodfest is renamed Draw.Double Down is renamed Bloodfest. In addition to filling cartridges, Draw activates three actions, only one may be chosen:Junction Power will increase the GNB's damage for 30 seconds.Junction Defense will reduce incoming damage by 50% for 30 seconds.Draw-Cast Aura will reduce the cooldown on all the GNB's abilities by 25% and increase LB charge for 10 seconds.Rough Divide returns and now gives the enemy a vulnerability up. 30 second cooldown with two charges.
The only issue I have with jobs is that they're all boring outside of burst windows, and everything is overly centralized around those 2m windows.I don't even hate the 2m thing inherently, theres just nothing else to the game anymore, and if you run content where syncing bursts isn't really a factor then every job is just boring for no reason.
>>719766851I do not want to run 10 year old content for my new weapon, I genuinely believe the conspiracy that they cut the 2nd way to progress to make the game seem alive in roulettesI did run the 24 man though, that was fun on Black Mage
>Synergy EffectsPLD + DRK: Light and Darkness Cast Aloft - While in a party together, a PLD and DRK may freely and instantly swap places and aggro tables. All healing abilities have an increased effect on the DRK and all damage bonuses have an increased effect on the PLD.PLD + DRG: Rage of Halone - When in a party with a DRG the PLD's Rage of Halone/Royal Authority inflicts a damage down effect on the enemy. DRG's Jump abilities now spray a healing breath around the landing point.WAR + SCH: Hells or High Waters - All Adloquiums cast on the WAR will be guaranteed direct crits. Shake It Off will spread all Adlo effects to the party alongside a movement speed buff.WAR + BLM: Mhachi Berserk - All fire elemental spells cast by the BLM reduce the cooldown on Berserk by two seconds. While Berserked, the WAR gains extra fire damage on every hit.DRK + SMN: Sin of Mist - When summoning Fray, he will be joined by a mist dragon that deals extra damage and grants a pulsing heal to the party. The SMN's primals will be enhanced by the DRK's rage and deal significantly more damage with their ultimate skills. Bahamut becomes Bahamut Fury and Akh Morn is upgraded to Morn Afah.GNB + AST: Time Compression - All self buffs cast by the GNB will have doubled timers. All buffs cast by the AST will have timers cut in half but doubled potency.GNB + BLM: Sorceress Knight - All ice spells cast by the BLM will have the equivalent of an Astral Fire 3 potency buff on them. No Mercy's damage buff is doubled and Bloodfest has increased potency along with a guaranteed crit.

it's probably too late to fix jobs. they've removed so many systems and there's no way to interact with content or your party members beyond dealing damage, reducing damage taken, or healing.
>>719772348I think there's a time and place for it. I know with a mod I am looking to do for another game with a fair bit of filler text I intend to have some cheeky shit for the kind of text that nobody ever gives a shit about and looks at. Like in XIV:>Help the Golmore Viera dispatch Garlean patrolsExplicitly what it is. Inoffensive, but also so bland it does nothing but logistics.>Revenge may be served cold, but vengeance is white hotHollow edginess/seriousness. Nobody will find the name of the quest cool or more engaging. Why not just go with the explicitly what it is then?>'Did that bush just speak Viera?' (Vietnam war meme) or 'That rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide!' (Monty Python) or 'Rabbit season? No, Garlean Season' (Bugs Bunny joke). You'll know the context from the quest objective of 0/7 Garlean soldiers killed or whatever. And maybe get a chuckle or a smile out of it. Mild chance you find it obnoxious but so long as the memes are more generic and not some painfully contemporary thing it's usually fine. Wordplay is always good and just Just keep it legit and serious/proper for the MSQ, then for side quests go funny.

I think that the biggest difference is that those didnt happen until way later, while BSF had way more content than OC does.On top of that, it wasnt the steps that you needed to repeat. Cleared TOP as my last ultimate and I have to say, I’m glad it’s over. P6 was such a slog and I will be seeing exasquares in my nightmares. Last phase firmly puts it near the bottom of my personal enjoyment list, only beating out UWU. Took me a little over 3 years from stepping into my first ultimate to clearing them all and I’ve certainly met a lot of interesting people along the way. I do love raiding but I think I’m going to retire to be a crafting main for a bit.
>>719757652So...this is what FFXIV is all about, ne?
>>719773996The last phase of TOP is the one that made it all worth it for me. I fucking hate that fight but the last phase is also one of the best things I've experienced in the game.

This is all conjecture on my part but levelling and expert are pretty well populated already due to their reward efficiency. You already get one fourth of your weekly capped tomestones in one expert run and leveling roulette gives a bunch of exp to a job and both of these roulettes are just one dungeons length worth of time and effort. The 4 selected relic roulettes just don’t offer the same reward efficiency as those two.I’ve also been helping a squad of sprouts progress through their stories and optional content and the queue times for stuff as early as the void ark are abysmally long. On Aether in the afternoon, queuing up for Ridoranna took almost 15 minutes with a group of 6 with supports filled in our premade. I can’t even imagine how long queuing the EW alliance raids would take. When the last moogle tome event happened, the Nier raids were popping up like hotcakes since those were included for bonus tomes. Like it or not, these extra material incentives do boost population in the duties long forgotten.Saying all this now though makes me worried that players will cheese the flexibility once again and just do alliance raid roulette on level 50 jobs and just force crystal tower runs.
>>719774054From a time investment standpoint, an alliance raid roulette should at least be a free level on an alt job.
they could have at least added a new frontline map if they wanted me to grind roulettesthat or change the frontline rotation to be like CC so map changes every however long it is
>>719774170Yeah, it's strange why the reward isn't better. Alliance raids (especially from SB on) are fun content too, they really should be kept populated
FRU was my first ultimate and I made the costly mistake of not trying to clear it on patch. So far I've probably spent almost 300 hours progging it, and have reached P5 a few times but have yet to clear it; as far as I know, there is not a single other person who has spent this long and not cleared. I have been progging this around 10 hours a week for about 8 months on end.I consider myself a decent raider and I think I'm pretty consistent at mechanics and pressing my buttons. I had no problems clearing 7.2 savage, and even cleared it quickly.I play on Elemental server, which is known to having a huge player leak towards other Japanese DCs. Therefore to prog on this DC, I generally have to stay within statics. I progged around 10 months over 3 different statics, all of which disbanded due to lack of progression. Now I'm biting the bullet and relearning the strat on the Japanese (Mana) DC where there is actually a decent raiding population.I've basically already seen every mechanic of the fight and I think I'm quite consistent (like making no more than 1 or 2 mistakes over 2-3 hours), but every clear/P5 party seems to have huge consistency issues. Usually it's a different person each run wiping us in P3/P4, setting us back 10-15 minutes. I'm not sure if there is a reliable way to go for clear, because I'm clearly doing something inefficient, since I'm willing to spend as many hours as needed, as long as there is steady progress. What would be my options currently? Has anyone been in my situation and can maybe share.I'm thinking the only way is to merc for cleared players but that feels a bit scummy.
>>719774438Join a static or wait for the game's population to recover.
>>719773406I can tell you.PLD and WAR are simpler and honestly more fun to play.GNB is annoying with all the ogcd pushing.DRK has the same thing, but also has the "no big damage number showing up" thing that make it noot as fun to play. For me that's it.

>>719774438From my own experience I can tell you that Ultimate runs are just RNG until you hit a golden run or at least a gold-lined run.Keep hammering away and you'll get it eventually, some days you'll just spend hours waiting for it to fill and running out of peak Ultimate-running hours.
>>719774714It's not RNG, it's just retards being inconsistent. You can be perfect every time but there are seven other idiots with you who will fuck up a mechanic they just did 50 times in a row.
It is possible to clear an Ultimate with PF parties on European servers?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOUCo0N-YQodamn this game used to have sovl
>>719774878I've never liked how 1.0 looks
>>719767326Japanese for "innit"
>>719774878>sovlThe zones were quite literally copypasta
>>719775304And now they're MKW intermission tracks
>>719775304They had repeating terrain because FCs were intended to be able to build structures out there and you would have territory wars. So they made the zones with that in mind. Development just never got that far.
>>719775371That doesn't sound nearly good enough of a concept to sacrifice the map design to, especially since they couldn't finish it for the release. This probably goes for many things in 1.0
>>719774878There's a lot of issues with this game but the aesthetics of the zones are definitely not one of them. The lesson here is that flying is cancer.j
>>719775673The non-flying zones in field missions are some of the ugliest in the game. But they probably have a much lower budget than the main ones
>>7197754981.0 in general was basically "What if we made FF11 again but BETTER?" with ambitions, budget and shaders everywhere - and absolutely no idea amidst outsourcing, mismanagement and horrific development decisions as to actually getting any of it to come the fuck together. Not to mention making an MMO in 2010 that played like a PS2-first MMO from 2002 with virtually next to no proper innovations on the formula besides some modernized control scheme / menuing tidbits, and that wasn't even that much.People shit on XIV being a WoW clone but the reality of the matter was that unlike most WoW clones, it worked in a ride or die scenario, and that's what we got saddled with.
>>719775673I have dreams of playing a good version of 1.X with an adventuring party slowly questing or levelling with everyone having unique job kits :(Sort of a, dare I say, adventure?Yes I play retail XI now but it's not quite the same feeling, probably because I just came in too late>>719775304Running around the zones in the server emulator was so cool to me with how uneven the terrain is that I didn't even notice any copy pasting, which I'm sure you're just parroting
>>7197758848.0 will save jobs brotrust the plan
>>719775923I'm far out of hope at this point, but I'm willing to be surprised
>>719775884The only really obvious copypasting I noticed back in the day were the tower shaped caves in Thanalan, the same structure they still use for Little Ala Mhigo today (it was still there back then but the cave was completely empty lol, no town at all even though it was labelled), and some spots in Black Shroud which I didn't see anything wrong with because the forest is alive, hostile, and actively trying to confuse you.
>>719775802What turned me off from 1.0 were the choppy and slow menus, bad performance and the exp caps. They didn't just copy XI, but created a ton of new problems
Free login campaign but haven't touched the game since the last free login sometime between 6.5 and 7.0Probably just gonna fish for the last few big fish I haven't gotten and triple triad cards that I don't have yet if there are anyAnything else I can do without DT? 14k hours so it's not like there's much I haven't doneGonna be my first time playing XIV without owning an expansion which is neat I guess
>>719776085If I remember right, one big killer for the game's performance was that one of the options was a poorly labeled/explained resolution scaling choice, so anyone that tried to max that out for the time was basically pushing like a 720p-1080p game towards 1440p-4k or some shit in an era where it wasn't even on the market consideration yet. An attempt to be forward thinking was a proverbial GPU nuke.
>>719776085Yeah nobody who says they copied XI should be listened to. 1.0 was wildly different from XI in almost every single way except for the races being visually reminiscent. All of my LS mates fucking hated it and went back within the first week.
>>719776134Cosmic exploration might count as EW content, not sure.
>>719776159>forward thinkingIt seems to me that 1.0 in general had the design philosophy of "it will have EVERYTHING... eventually", which lead to the product being put on sale a mess
>>719776264It could have at least had one or two things on launch but the CEO at the time had a shitty pissy about Cataclysm and wanted the game released NOW!!!! to compete with WoW. And to make matters worse they had already begun the process of intentionally nuking FFXI's gameplay balance to try and prep the playerbase to move over, so they needed it ready.
>>719776159Considering how bad the FFXIII PC port is and that FFXIV 1.0 used the same/similar engine, it was probably a technical mess in many ways
>>719776224Says requirement is clearing Endwalker MSQ, so maybe it is doable, thanks

>>719782423That proves the point though. People would rather play SMN, which is more fun but does less damage, than the jobs that are less fun but do more damage.
>>719775802>1.0 in general was basically "What if we made FF11 again but BETTER?"It only ever sounded like this on paper, but they didn't really seem to understand what was good about XI in the first place. You can tell they just had a bunch of random ideas and no one vetoed any of it. The entire retainer hall system was just somebody looking at the Rolanberry mall and going "this is clearly what players want to have instead of an auction house, let's put it in the game for real" without having the lucidity to realize that it was their design choice to make some items bazaar-only that necessitated the mall in the first place.
They just need to make XIV 2 or XVII already this shit is boring and no one wants to play it anymore.

>>719784401damn, alrighti need to do that too but cba to get the 7.3 gear
Is there going to be another crafted set of DoH / DoL gear, or is this the final tier and only a catch-up ilvl scrip version will be added? Please, I don't want to pentameld and then be left behind again...
>>719784585I think this is the last set but idk.I fucking hate melding I swear so I feel you.
>>719784430You can get just the gathering set and CE relic and that's good enough for DoL EX+ missions. DoH EX+ are pretty difficult even in full 7.3 pentamelds and using food
>>719784823Does that include the aetherial reduction ones? I fucking hate the aetherial reduction ones.
crafting is for faggots and jews. gatherers are the true chads. fishers are kings among men.
I wanna gather and craft on my own but man it's just cockblock after cockblock.Scrip farming and pissing away materia. Fookin love it m8.
>>719784868Yeah timed missions are 45 reductions and weather missions are 12x max collectability gathers. Both are roughly the same thing, just gather as many max collectability items as possible, in both missions if you play it right and are lucky with procs you can finish the mission in just 2 nodes.
>>719785138How are you going to even deal with that collectability when you blow your load on like the first node? At least I need to, in order to get the best results. Can use a Hi-Cordial, sure, but that doesn't bring me back up to max either.
>>719776771NTA, but he's right that the zone designs were ridiculously repetitive. Western Coerthas Highlands was the same as Eastern Coerthas Highlands, maybe just the place of lakes was different. There was actually few notable landmarks/locations, which combined with no actual quests using these places, it was barren as hell. The first weeks I actually hit all the aetherial nodes too.Now I personally loved the areas, but ARR switching to smaller zones with variantion between each one was huge. That was the reason the Black Shroud was done first in the Alpha tests.I vividly remember Yoshi-P commenting in one of the Live Letter that the alpha testers loved South Shroud visually in the alpha tests, cause of how the swap looked.
>>719785920Why does everything look so fogfucked? And it also feels like there's chromatic abberation or something similar.
>>719785262I personally spent 900 GP on the first node (3 integrity restores), that left me with 100, Cordial back to 500, do reductions/wait until 600, and do 2 integrity restores on the 2nd node, I don't use GP on anything else for the first 2 nodes.
>>719774170there's a reason why i still haven't done most post ARR alliance raids. i made an exception for the ivalice raids since i have a soft spot for FFXII, but the first nier raid alone took a fucking eternity and i don't need shit like that clogging up my roulettethe fact that CT currently gives you the same daily bonus as the aforementioned slog really dissuades me from doing the rest. i might change my tune once i cap out all of the jobs i care about, but for now lol
>>719774438I'm on elemental too and most of the good players are currently unsubbed, or they only play with each other anyway. Nothing you can do but look for a static on the elemental raiding discord and hope you can scrounge up enough decent players. I wouldn't wish pugging an ultimate on anyone.

>>719790413PvP is so damn fun. Surviving in Frontlines is a matter of gaining spatial awareness to not get blindsided. Surviving in CC is a matter of not stacking with everyone to get AOEd and using movement and line of sight cleverly. And when you learn about Rival Wings that’s worth doing too. I’m nearly done with getting the mount achievements (was GC hopping for the horses and now I just need one GC at 200 wins for a ball). And yeah, the way how each job actually has its identity is amazing.

>>719793187Impossible because scripting doesn’t exist for any of the old fights. And even then, majority of 1.0s updates was just beta tests for ARR implementation. From the trials to them figuring out dungeons. Hell, something I never see someone talk about with 1.0 is how do do the primal fights, you have to party farm tokens for hours at a beast tribe. And after doing a dungeon there’s a 15 minute cooldown before you could enter again. Like really?

Anything past that is an inorganic influx.

>>719799074I'm not saying XIV is doing everything right or the game can't be better, but yes. A lot of the players from [that game] never liked or cared for XIV, and only stuck to it for as long as WoW was too shit for them to go back to. If Endwalker wasn't a perfect excuse for that, then Dawntrail certainly was. I don't know what the numbers would have been like if Dawntrail was received well, but we wouldn't be sticking around 1.5 to 2m players because a lot of those players were clamoring to run back to their old sweetheart.

I noticed a trend that whenever a content creator asks for a thing to be added, by the time Yoshida's incompetent team take 50 years to add it the person who asked already stopped playing.
>>719799847Well, I'll accept that. Point being is that the growth XIV got in late ShB just wasn't sustainable. The game was doing fine growing bit by bit from expansion to expansion, and that kind of growth is what you can hold on to. But the extreme leap in numbers from that time is a bubble that's begging to be popped.I've seen a fair few that were getting antsy to run back to WoW as soon as that dragon expansion came out, but they probably couldn't straight up do that without egg on their faces, so they had to make up this whole spiel about XIV had changed from being "heckin peak", and WoW was so bvck. Some did indeed quit MMOs outright since WoW was irredeemable, but none of the other MMOs (including XIV) could hit that spot either.

>>719766615Oda was the lorefag. Ishikawa is much more of a vibes/scene based storyteller. It's why the best stories this game has had were from the two of them collaborating. Oda does amazing background work, Ishikawa excels at foreground stuff. If it's all Oda, you get a relatively dull loredump. If it's all Ishikawa, you get a confused mess of hype-farming moments that will leave you wondering what ACTUALLY happened when you think about it a few weeks later.
>>719801057Start of Stormblood/Stormblood main quest (not patches) is considered bad.And then Endwalker patches and Dawntrail main story + 7.1 is considered bad.
>>719801057It never does get bad It's overreaction to your character's knob not being slobbed for what is functionally, in the story, five minutes. And then it does in fact start slobbing your knob again, harder than ever before depending on how you look at it.

>>719801839I know the role of the Warrior of Light in Dawntrail, it was to be a camera man for Wuk. Stand in the background and getting cool camera shots for Wuk even in Interphos.
>>719801864XIV died because Kate tried to platform a talentless tranny
>>719801735scions are underused to their own detriment prior to shadowbringers and dawntrail 7.0 was both wuk lamat focused and stretched insanely long to tell a fairly short storythis isn't surprising, everybody's brain falls out of their ass with that dialogue chart reddit repost btw and the game and all of its mishandlings and misuses and total character absences just suddenly cease to exist as reasons for why any of them are low on that chartalphinaud is the deuteragonist and mouthpiece for most of the game and gets the most dialogue because he's the only scion that existed for enormous stretches, alisaie secondmost because after she's formally introduced in late heavensward she bounces off of alphinaud most
>>719801948My point is they both were clumsily handled heel turns.Ysayle an unrepentant ice witch to bleeding heart empath.Bakool Ja Ja from spiteful piece of shit that will unleash a calamity just to get ahead to... what he is now.
>>719802075Bakool Ja Ja had a pretty rough idea that Valigarmanda was just gonna be a speed-bump to the Warrior of Light at the very least, if it were a credible threat to Mamook in his head he probably wouldn't have done it.
>>719802075You mean face turns, anon? Go over and lurk a bit more on >>>/pw/
>>719801949Wuk 100% has outstripped Alisaie now as Alisaie had virtually no speaking lines in the post patches especially compared to Wuk so now the character with the second most dialogue in the entire game will be the most hated character in the entire game.
>>719802228>most hated character in the entire gameI hate alphi more.
>>719802209ugh, yeah fine.point remains though that they had the same issue. probably because they changed their mind on ysayle between arr and hw>>719802164Everything about that section is full retard so I don't know if I have the mental fortitude to even consider a world in which it makes any sense.
>>719801521>"Wuk Lamat"
>>719801681What a joke.
>>719802334Wuk was voted most hated character by not just Western players but Chinese and Japanese as well. You personally can hate Alphinaud more but the player base as a whole has voted and Wuk made it first. Quite impressive considering how relatively new she is.
With regard to moment to moment fumbles, I think having tempering be cured by a magical pig is still up there.
>>719802589I would say it isn't that impressive. If it's a long time character people sour on, that's impressive.Wuk came out of nowhere with a shitty story, overtook everything for an entire expansion cycle and we have nothing to show for it. She's like a home invader nobody asked for or wanted, who leaves a mess in her wake. That's easy to hate.
>imgur and reddit reposts, begging for chinese and japanese opinions
>>719802589I like that she managed to score lower on JP popularity polls than joke characters from the Arcadion
>>719801864wuk's jp va was really good, it's a shame she voiced the most hated char in 14.>>719801723I'll never understand why they killed Papalymo off and then completely ruined Lyse.
>>719802849Honey B and Yaana are easy to like.
Thaleia last fight as BLM is the ultimate>everyone else is wrong except meAnd I've never seen anyone put leylines down during the trident thing, but you can. I scoped it, and I did it.
>>719802726By this same edge it's also extremely easy to write off an explosion of outrage as recency bias and kneejerkingIn favor of this I point to Rise Narukami not bothering to make any further charts like this one >>719801635 for tracking character dialogue counts, they stopped after 7.1
>>719802075Ysayle can be pardoned to an extent because patch writing never translates to expansion writing dye to different writers (this is a flaw SE will never fix). Bakool had way more potential that school bully with sob backstory.
>>719802868>I'll never understand why they killed Papalymo offNobody liked him (or Minfilia), so they were easy gasp they killed off a character fodder.
>>719802868Papalymo had no character, Lyse went from 1 dimensional bimbo to realistic version of someone wanting to make a difference but entirely divorced from reality of her homeland.
>>719802726I dunno, for each expansion prior they seemed to write new characters quite well and the point formerly is hated characters were people who were meant to be hated for example Asahi was a hated character but he was written to be hated. Wuk Lamat was written at least from the writers/ developers perspective as the 'most likeable' character possible but people had the opposite reaction to her.>>719802849Even the Arcadion they managed to mess up, they had a decent story going that felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the MSQ but then immediately ruined it with the Cruiserweight story arc which, it felt flat especially compared to the first tier. I thought Black Cat was a nice introduction and liked the idea of how she was infatuating with the Wol after he beat her, she wanted to help him more but then I didn't really see that aspect in the second part of the raid story it felt too much focused on Wicked Thunder and her boyfriend.
>>719803028I liked both of them.
>Xak Tural, friend
>>719803320Hi Nobody.
>>719803028I liked Mnfilia but I understand why the troons of FF14 hated her because she was an attractive, feminine woman, something they will never be.
>>719803248Oh, I was just trying to say that a random character that pops up, makes everything focus around her and brings nothing good to the table is easy to hate.
>it's a "the devs had a solid system at the start but ruined it because they'd rather please everyone than stick to a vision" episode >its on rerun for yearsI think Yoshida shouldn't be directing or producing anything except remakes after XIV and XVI desu
>>719803429>the troons of FF14 hated her because she was an attractive, feminine woman
>>719757652Dead troonsloppa.
>>719803547Heavensward was not in fact a solid systemActually almost everything from Heavensward from job design to content design has either been iterated on as to be unrecognizable or it's been completely shit-cannedStormblood was their found stride but also their launching off point for getting too comfortable
>>719801189Maybe. I heard a lot of people saying that ARR was bad and the only thing i didn't like about it is how fast you level.
>>719801057Staying on the FT permanently is the smart move if you just want to fuck around in the game world and do whatever you want without feeling like you're being forced to log in because you're throwing away money if you aren't.Every player I know who isn't a raider is constantly groaning and moaning how they only sub 1-3 months a year (and the raiders do that too once the tier's been cleared) or only log in during free login days because the content is dripfed at a glacial pace unless an event "forces" them to resub because of the FOMO reward (which always FTs have access too). And there's a non-zero possibility that FT will get ShB at the tail end of this expansion, too.
>Replying to Alyssa Mercante the disgraced former Kotaku editor and talking about Zoe Quinn who drove a man to suicide.Oh my fucking god just fire this danger haired cunt already. Fucking me what does it take for SE to sack up and get rid of this /pol/itics whore?
>>719803809ARR is considered bad but it's the basis, so often times it's "just get past that"But then StB is considered the mid-progress bad. And now DT is considered the bad at the end.
>>719802740Trancers won
>>719803829Maybe collect all this evidence against Kate, find people who share your opinion, and bring it directly to Square rather than bitching about it ITT and expecting others to do it for you?
>>719804014turns out they don't listen to internet randoms begging for an employee to be fired, otherwise nomura would've been fired twenty years ago
>>719803248The Arcadion's story was never good.It was just more entertaining than dawntrail.
>>719803829When will Kate stop posting publicly
>>719804064Maybe, but it's still more effective than posting about it in 4chan threads nonstop. As a side-note, seeing the likes of alyssa mercante and zoe quinn trying to make a group that is "explicitly against hate and harassment and educated companies and individuals on how 'hate campaigns' work and how to protect people" is the richest hypocrisy ever.
The next expansion will be focus on the WoL and the Scions, in fact I'm pretty sure in the CGI teaser they will show a (fake) death of one of them.
>>719803547Potency doomed the system from the startUtter nonsense, makes everything feel the same
>>719804227I dont care about MSQ after EW, I want the game to feel better.
>>719804079I don't disagree. The point was it was a middling story but contrasted against the shit stain of Dawntrail's MSQ it was like Tennyson in comparison/
what the fuck happened to this game lmao
dood wtf happened t othis game
