How is it
>>
if u havent played the sequel this is gonna be a solid game, but if you have, it's gonna be dogshit

Really good. The definitive edition adds two abilities that don't need to be there and fuck up the pacing, but the game's atmosphere, art, music, and movement are still sublime. The sequel drank too much Hollow Knight juice and adds a bunch of dead weight, but both are very much worth playing.

>Hollow Knight juice
what the fuck are you talking about. WotW adds full action combat, DMC mechanics and lots of different weapons.
Hollow knight doesn't even have combat apart from a pissy little swipe you spam.

everyone is hollow brained right now so they need to draw a comparison for w/e reason

Really gooD
:D i liked it more than hollow knight.
>>
It's pretty good and its artstyle is amazing
Play the sequel too afterwards

It's about a 7/hollow knight

Compared to Ori 1 - Same style of traveling NPCs as HK, same style of equippable spirit shards as HK charms, increased emphasis on combat and bosses, platforming heavily scaled back, introduction of a currency system, introduction of a hub town, overt sidequests, you have to find an NPC to get the map for an area...

Most of the weapons didn't need to exist and not making bash its own button was moronic. I liked WotW well enough but the game was bloated and unfocused compared to Blind Forest.
>>
I like 'em better than Hollow Knight.
Btw Ori is a playable character in Rivals of Aether 1, very faithful recreation too.
>>
it's a platformer with some basic combat, not really a metroidvania. everyone compares it to hollow knight but it's closer to sonic than it is HK. I got bored after a few hours

>definitive edition
don't do that

>traveling NPCs
been a thing in countless games since the 1990s
>equippable spirit shards
these are just basic buffs. again in countless games before HK & Souls. perfected in FF7s materia system in 1997.
>increased emphasis on combat and bosses
Except ori has an actual moveset, combos, depth and real boss fights where as HK doesn't have real combat.
>platforming heavily scaled back
literally not true
>introduction of a currency system
yeah that's really rare for games to have. Ori 1 also has a points spending system.
>introduction of a hub town
>overt sidequests
Again and adventure game standard.
>you have to find an NPC to get the map for an area...

Does anyone else prefer 1 to 2? Am I literally alone in this? Don't get me wrong I loved both but 1 just felt so much more cohesive and driven
>>
>>719772669
>too much Hollow Knight juice
oh my god dont open this shit again. i know the dev seethed about hk but he was like 90% right. i think there was one thing i was sus on but all the comparisons are insanely superficial
>>
>>719772547
is good

Depends on what you're looking for. If you just want a smooth, emotional platformer with tight controls and gorgeous visuals, it's top tier. But if you're expecting deep Metroidvania exploration or complex combat, you're gonna feel the seams. Still, worth playing just for the art and music alone.
