A very long time ago, in the 1990s, my older brother convinced me "pro gamers" played by holding their controllers upside down. I spent 9 months learning how to play with the controller upside down. I really did learn how to do it. It was agonizing. When I finally mastered this skill, I showed my brother. He started laughing and brought his friends over and they all watched me and then my brother laughed, called me a faggot, and walked out. His friends all laughed at me. This permanently affected me both physically and of course mentally and emotionally. I found I could not play games holding the controller normally anymore. Since then, I've played every game with the controller upside down. My brother still laughs at me whenever games are brought up.

As a kid when you sucked and had limited knowledge though and it felt near impossible: The Riku fight in Hollow bastion. Me and two friends took turns trying to beat him every day for weeks, until one day the guy who owned the game came to school and said he had beat it, and it just so happened that after that fight something crazy happened where Sora turned into a heartless and you played as a heartless, which only served to cement the legendary status of that fight, as if the entire game changed after it if you beat it. I can't properly convey how mythical and epic in the true sense of the word that game felt at the time.

I beat viewtiful joe on ultra v-rated. The magnificent five level took me 6 hours straight of attempts (I didn't use save states or anything) and the final boss took me about 2-3 hours of attempts. I don't think any single video game challenge in my life took 6 hours to complete. The second hardest is ironically the final boss in donkey kong country tropical freeze

I then eventually pirated it on my pc and learned to play on the keyboard and it works perfectly. It's not quite as good as the guitar for rapid strumming specifically (One in particularly was.always one of the hardest tracks for me because of that rythym section, same with barracuda funniily enough), but it's good enough for the most part and arguably superior to the guitar in general, although obviously not as fun. If you give it a shot again try plugging in a keyboard. You should be able to transfer most of your ability with the guitar to it.
