seconding this, play the remaster as it has manual skill inheritance on demon fusions, unless rerolling fusions 50 times sounds like fun to you

i saw some scenes where the remaster butchered the aesthetic. it seems fine enough but id want to experience the original if possible. pcsx2 works great now, use the nightly release
>>
steam version has a decent fan patch that fixes shit like low quality audio tracks.

The remaster is fine. The lighting isn't as good as original but it has manual skill inheritance and voice acting. It lets you choose between the original version, the maniax version with Raidou or with Dante and you can even choose not to manual skill inherit if you're a giga purist. Overall remaster is better version.

Make sure to pick chronicle or maniax on new game for the fiends and raidou/Dante.

This. That said the whole game is kind of overrated and I'd recommend SMT4, SMT 4A or strange journey over it.

The steam version is hd and widescreen but you can also accomplish the same using hacks on an ps2 emulator.
The steam version also sadly ruins the lighting in the game and as such looks signifcantly worse and ruins the look of some scenes entirely.
The only part the steam version is superior to the ps2 version is the fact you it allows you choose what skills demons inherit trough fusion which is very welcome and saves a lot of tedium and reloading saves.
Other than that the ps2 and steam versions are practically identical.

The bloom didn't bother me it gave the game an ethereal quality

It's pretty bad.

any version besides the original is much easier

It's not as relevant as P4's fog getting removed. It makes a few scenes look bad, the opening scene anon posted and the fight with Lucifer are really the ones that suffer the most. Overall it doesn't make much of a difference since most of Nocturne is just wandering through weird hallways not these big visual spectacles.

Hold on I’ve never played the remaster but you can really just choose to play a version without the Labyrinth of Amala, or fiends, or anything like that?
>>
>>719781572
Yeah regular "New Game" on the menu is the vanilla version without all those. Almost started playing that myself, wouldn't know if i didn't look it up.

pc version has a less infuriating fusion system, I personally don't care for the voice acting or the visuals but if its your first time then that would be the version I recommend
