Even though I'm a zoomer who has little to no nostalgia for the 5th and 6th gens, pretty much all the games I play nowadays are from those generations on emulators. Anyone else?
You might try SilkSong it have released it today on all Windows Platforms I rate it 10/10
>>719808176Contrary to what the corporate viral marketers would want you to believe, you don't need "nostalgia" to recognize and enjoy great games. As an 80s kid, I honestly believe that the 1995-2005 was the peak of all vidya. It was so varied, colorful, and "sincere" - for lack of better word.
>>719808176fuck off go play silksong , continue shitting on the gaming industry fucking nigger
>>719808602>sincereIt was just a niche hobby and market back then. That's what helped it the most. Nowadays it's just yet another market that absolutely needs to appease all the normies in it because profits.

>>719809013True, but the overall culture and way of consuming stuff was different as ell. Most dev studios were still small groups of friends, passionate about nerdy things, itching to show off their skills and ideas + challenge the players. The average dev also really wanted to pack as much content into their game as possible. These days, the big publishers are outright AGAINST the idea of their game becoming a successful cultural phenonema, that might keep on living for many decades to come (see: DOOM 1993), as it means that they have to essentially "compete" against their own products, and people might honestly prefer the original, cheaper, more versatile game(s) of theirs. This is why proper modding tools and private servers are relatively "rare" in modern games, not to mention the old practice of devs outright releasing their older games' source code once their "next gen" project released.Vidya being mostly physical meant that you really had to prioritize testing and QA before the release, else you'd get the tar + feathers treatment from the general public if your game had serious, game breaking bugs.
>>719809835The culture of the 90s was just cooler. This was an era that valued authenticity and keeping it real. Pop radio was playing moody rock songs about depression, or gangster rap about drugs and violence. Naturally this culture made its way to video games. The first time I played FFVII, one of my first thoughts was "yep, this is definitely a product of the 90s".
