what was his problem?

this is exclusively a shit game issue. cyberpunk and doom eternal both load instantly. meanwhile shit like mhwilds needs a 10 minute compiler screen.

Shouldn't have got a cheap CPU.

Brother I updated my drivers last week and now every time I boot Elden Ring it sounds like my PC is attempting interstellar flight. Shader cache builds like it’s 2012 again and we're on a PS3. I miss when "update drivers" actually meant "your game runs better", not "enjoy this 15-minute slideshow every launch".

This has been a thing for longer than you'd think and many games did shader compilation when needed and his it behind a loading screen. Also, blame AMD and NVIDIA if you want for shaders needing to recompile everytime your GPU drivers are updated any guess as to what compiles the shader?) because the world of GPU programming and ISAs is just a fucking mess.

I attempted that again yesterday. Tried to play Metal Eden, crashes on anything other than low graphics settings. Checked Steam forums and people there were having the same issue regardless of hardware. Nice reminder why I should stop wasting my time and stick to old games. Stutter Engine 5 games barely look better than games from 10 years ago.

How come shaders didnt need to compile in previous generations?
>>
>>719854823
They did and they always did. GPUs can't read a language like HLSL just like a CPU can't read C++ code. Programmable shaders have always been a thing that needs to be compiled from a high level language such as HLSL into something the GPU can understand like bytecode.

A thing needing to be done isn't such a big deal if if it's just something you wait on. But games doing shader comp at runtime and giving you dogshit framerate until they finish? Fuckin unacceptable.
