Honestly one of the things I really liked about ff14 when I played through the main questline in ~2017 was how politically relevant so much of of the main story was. The whole mhigger sub plot was set up in 2.0 which was from 2013 and was super fucking relevant in 2017. Basically the whole refugee crisis in Europe and the people shitting on them, the game mimicked that. The writers were really good at what they did back then.
