this game is old enough to drink and it's STILL the best metroidvania
My favorite parts are the nerfed enemy layouts, save station heals, and map markers. I really hate when a game is challenging or I have to figure out where to go.
Not even the best in its own franchise, but it's still an amazing game on behalf that it took the original metroid 1's gimmick of ''secret boobies if you beat it fast enough!" and made a whole speedrunning game, and then staple a hard mode on top of that shit and you get one of the most ballbusting Metroid games in the franchise (would argue Fusion is harder but this is ONLY under the self-imposed challenge of beating Fusion with 1% items).
>>719856645Silk shits all over this. It's faster.
>>719856934All those things are an improvement over the original tho
>>719856998Let me guess: You think Super is better?
Fusion is the only metroidvania i have finished. Is zero mission worth a play?
>>719857083That's what I said. They could still improve it by polishing out that pesky need to time your jumps or manage missiles though. Games should play themselves.
>>719857120Every other 2D Metroid is better than Fusion so yeah.
>>719857260Correction, Dread is worse.
>>719856645definitely notNEStroid has better explorationDread has the best movesetFusion has the best bossesOther M has the cutest sammy

>>719857097It is but not by a large margin, Zero Mission for all of its praises, has some glaring flaws even i cannot ignore, i don't care if its a low hanging fruit to complain about, the fact that the zss stealth section CANNOT be done 100% stealthy unless you get very fucking lucky with the very first leap of faith and hit the frame perfect stunshot ruins that section completely, nevermind that the trek to 100% the game is just Power Bomb shittery when Power Bombs are beyond optional and even if i praise Zero Mission for being a funny time attack game at its core, the audacity from Nintendo's level designers at the time coming up with the most bastardous speedbooster and shinesparking puzzles is on the same level of Bitch-made as AM2's work on F-Zero GX.At least every tool in Super has an use even the glitched beams, Power Bombs in Zero Mission are just dogshit and don't even hurt bosses, or should i say boss because unless you skipped the bigass bee, the only boss left after getting back the suit and getting Power Bombs is Mech Ridley, who takes zero damage from Power Bombs all while he has a nasty slap that on hard mode and 100% completion, ONESHOTS YOU.
>>719857097Of course Super is better, pic related is also better, much better.
>>719856645Zero Mission > AM2R > Fusion > Super >>>>>>>>>>> Redditsong
>>719857621https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BTuVvkR7Ec - Stealth section made all the more tragic because this remix of the wrecked ship theme is fucking amazing and it's thoroughly ruined by that first fucking off-screen pirate. This alone puts Zero Mission below Super, and arguably equally sharing the #2 spot with Fusion but this is just my nostalgia speaking because Fusion's atmosphere, music and combat-oriented gameplay click a lot better than ZM's.
No such a thing as a "better" Metroid game because each entry plays different from one another that going from one to another is an alien experience that comparing each entry is like comparing different fruits. If you like exploration you like Super, if you like action you like Fusion, if you like a mixture of both ZM's for you, if you like an honest challenge you boot up Metroid 1 (on your zero mission cart cause yeah ZM was a damn bargain bin), if you like a more linear experience without any baggage, the Metroid 2's (AM2R, SR and OG) got you covered, if you just like the metroidvania genre but haven't touched Metroid, Dread's your best pick. And if you like pure immersion, the Prime trilogy is pretty damn good at it.
>>719857120Yes, it's just more of Fusion.
>>719856645What about the Castlevanias?
>>719858268you just wrote why I love this seriesalso play X-Fusion on Easy mode if you want Fusion to be nonlinear, I loved sequence breaking that game
Honestly, Fusion with Super's exploration and sequence breaking potential would be the perfect Metroid game.

>>719856645It's an excellent game. But it's no Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's Trap.
