That's complete and total horseshit, there are plenty of Kindred three times that age in the setting that use weapons. The only thing that would confuse them initially are firearms, but guns are intuitive and the protagonist would be able to swiftly learn their use in a few nights at most with proper instruction, something which any Kindred but especially one 4 centuries old would be able to easily obtain. For that matter, they would be dimly familiar with their existence since they were around in the 1600s, well after firearms were invented. If they'd ever seen a cannon in their life they'd be able to understand the basic gist of the weapon. They might not be familiar with the overall mechanics, but then so aren't most of the people that own guns and commit crime today.
