>>719906468Vietcong introduced me to The Stooges so that was pretty cool.
>>719906468What the fuck it's rated T??? A Vietnam game without any blood? Hard pass.Such a shame, the menu theme is amazing.

>>719906868For me it's Shellshock 2 Bloodlines
>>719906691Ironically there's dismemberment, like shooting off limbs, jaws or entire heads offLike, there's even bayonet combat. You can gore a dude until you can see their ribs poking out
>>719906691>>719907404Huh, apparently there were two versions of the game, one T and one M ratedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqzmFX-ohVQ
Will this be the ultimate Vietnam game kino?
>>719906468It's been 20 years and I still can't get the pilot out of the cage without the alarm being raised
>>719907636Rising Storm 2 already exists and isn't a boring piece of shit like HLL
>>719906468kino>>719906868I still remember one of your squad mates getting piersed by a boobie trap cage made out of bamboo

>>719907836That's on mission 2 at the start>mfw one of my mates gets shot, tells me to kill him before he gets blown up into pieces>mfw on last mission where one of the guys is happy that I'm still alive after the chopper got blown up before he dies
>>719906468https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usluSX4X1dgbest trailer of all time and I never even played it

Hurts like hell when your favorite series didn't survive the generational hop.
>>719906468/v/ plays bf vietnam when
>>719911109How hard is to setup?
>>719906691The PS2 version is rated M oddly enough
i played the demo for this long ago somewhere
>>719914719You should play the full game as well
>>719913174>>719911109I was actually thinking about hosting a server. Should also be pirate friendly.I did the same for BF1942 15 years or so ago and it worked, even with my shitty internet. Now I have more upload bandwidth, so it should work even better.
>>719918852I have BF Vietnam working but no idea how to host games or join one.I got it from herehttps://youtu.be/x4LELMK7bYw
>>719906468I never got to finish this game but I still remember that main menu theme, it was 10/10https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuYL-keoGvU
>>719906468They won
>>719918946The easiest is to just run the dedicated server executable. It should be somewhere in the game's folder (I don't have it installed right now to check). To make it pirate friendly, I think you need to block certain ports, but I'm also not remembering well. I don't even know if the server would show up in the browser now that the GameSpy master server is down. Joining by typing the IP directly should work.
>>719906468>when you blindly crawl through pitch black tunnels for hours before remembering that you have a flashlight
>>719906468>Game is called vietcong>You are playing as ameriturd invaders instead >Name of vietnamese is literally used like some villain name slurIs there a single fucking game where you are actually playing as the vietnamese setting up traps and ambushing amerinazis? You could make such a fucking cool, gory and patriotic game out of this, instead of having a millionth generic shooter where you are acting as the good little imperialists having some ass backwards mental gymnastics for why these rapist genocidal invaders (and literal losers) you are playing as are actually the good guys you should sympathize with
>>719914606This is a good game
>>719906468This is one of those things that zoomers can't ever hope to relate to but when this game dropped it had the best vidya foliage bar none, I was so fucking immersed in it. Maybe playing it on a CRT helped but that shit felt wild.
>>719920576I remember being in awe of the water. The way the streams looked. It seemed so real.

nothing can ever top the 'vietcong' series.everything about it was pure cinematic bliss and action.czechs love and have a huge admiration for the graphical fidelities and storytelling of the videogame world.hidden & dangerous 2, chamelon etc... timeless classics both in and out.
>>719907747shits dead though dude
>>719922102>hidden & dangerous 2another GOATed game
>>719907747RS2 is dead, and every month that passes it becomes less and less stable. It just spent around a year with a near universal mouse look bug that made the game nearly impossible to play without having to leave and rejoin games or tab in and out mid game multiple fucking times
Nobody ever talks about this one, but it's my favorite.
Does the Vietnam War setting feel way more ominous and horrifying than other war settings or is it just me. It just feels more unsettling for some reason
>>719919623I found this serverhttps://www.gametracker.com/server_info/108.61.119.37:15567/As for getting the game working, I installed the game fine by using all 3 iso files from archivedotorg, and used the patched executable from herehttps://team-simple.org/download/
>>719923237its obtuse and weird, but once you have it down, it's actually really playable.tactical real time squad shooter milsim kind of a thing, it's like the psp socom game but way more in depth. weirdly published by EA.
YOU SHOOT G.I. YOU SHOOT
>>719923279It's basically the inverse of WW2. Where there you had very defined "bad guys" and a clear victory, the boys died heroically in somewhat honorable "clean" combat. Versus vietnam, the war over really nothing, that "we" lost, fighting "commies" but mostly just poor gook farm boys, and all the boys died from shit covered sticks, or hand grenades hidden in coffee cans, and hookers vaginas. It's got a very cursed mojo about it, paired with an incredible cold war aesthetic and a fucking banger sound track.
Pure kino:https://store.steampowered.com/app/1837480/Vietnam_War/
>>719906468>agent oranges (You)What now, bitch?
>>719923601Why are they called gooks if there's not a single word in the Vietnamese language that sounds like gook
Unironically the goat
>>719923124name?
>>719923949never gelled wtih it but I love the original, I have thousands of matches in BF Vietnam, mostly at LANs
>>719923835gook likely comes from a korean word "miguk"(me gook) which was korean slang for americans. So americans just started calling koreans Gooks. Korean war vets arriving in Vietnam just kept using the word and it spread.
>>719906468a little unrelated but how common are games and other media about the soviet-afghan war in russia? it's basically the soviet equivalent of the vietnam war, so do they still think about it as much as americans do about vietnam?
>>719923835holdover from koreansthe more educated racists use zips or zipperheads for vietmanese, which is in reference to the way their corpses' heads appeared to have been opened by zippers
>>719924192are there any, at all? perhaps some advanced squad leader digital scenario or such might exist
>>719924192a lot more rare, because it was much less kino and calling it the equivalent is a disserviceto put it this way: America survived Vietnam. The USSR didn't survive Afghanistan.
>>719924192The Russians love making movies about it, Black Shark, 9th Company, etc.
>>719924192>/wiki/Category:Soviet%E2%80%93Afghan_War_video_games
I think I've played pretty much every Vietnam game. Recently I enjoyed VietDoom and also Vietnam War was alright but not really that great and pretty fuckin incomplete feeling but I guess that's EA for ya. It is cool how the game features the entire country of Vietnam and Cambodia with battles raging across the map. Just runs like shit and controls like shit and looks like shit mostly, the napalm strikes look neat.
>>719924443Only two of those are made by Russians
>>719906468https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lCI2KPgyU0
>>719924934Blyat
>>719924424ussr breaking up because afghanistan is a memeBut you are right that they are not equivalents Vietnam war was the continuation of Vietnam's anti-colonial war against the west. It just happened to be the commies who kicked out the french colonialist. The west started panicking that commies all over the word will now start liberating their colonies, so the US started scheming, promising peaceful transition to independence but quickly started breaking promises and using lies to enter the war against the commies who wanted to kick out the US and their puppet dictator from the southMeanwhile Afghan-soviet war was US arming and training rebels to overthrow socialist afghanistan, who then asked the soviets for help, but shortly after the government was overthrown and the soviets kind of "overstayed their welcome" by insisting on restoring this government, even tho said government no longer formally existed. US went nuts arming and training and propping up what became the modern middle eastern radical /terrorist movement (that didn't exist before they did this), including the al-qaeda.
>>719906468>Propaganda slop threadif the shit in gaza happened 2 decades ago we would have dozens of western shooters about you playing as some American contractor fighting for Israel and a bunch of brainwashed sheep here would call it kino because they played it as a kid
>>719923279It's a special kind of hell but incredibly unique at the same time.>60s and all that entails (civil rights)>cold war>jungle guerilla combat>air war >absurd bombing campaigns>incredible music>no clear enemy or objective>popularized ptsd>new weapons

>>719923959
>>719906468
I'm surprised CoD never went all-in on a Vietnam War game, BO1 and 2 have a couple missions set during Vietnam but no full on game about it
>>7199313057554, but you fight the French in the 1940s/50s. Plays basically like an early discount brand Call of Duty game, but I liked it just because of the unique setting and arsenal.
>>719932437They were gonna, it was a third person psychological horror spin off, back when Activision was thinking about making multiple spin off titles
>>719923835>>719924173This anon is correct. 국 guk means country. 한국 Hanguk. Korean미국 Miguk, american. Not slang BTW.Of course jarheads being jarheads, they tended to call everybody gooks. We expect a higher level of precision here than a jarhead in general here though.
>>719932751It would get boring. Even World at War and the Modern Warfare games would change between the American, Russian, or British factions every other level.
>>719933103Nah, what gets boring is the constant, unending "Russia vs US" or "Random fictional middle eastern country vs US" that most modern shooters default to. It's not a long game, either. I'm fine with a 4-6 hour campaign set in a war that, to my knowledge, has never had a single video game adaption (First Indochina war). You can keep your modern tacticool slop though.
>>719907636It's one of the only major upcoming games I'm legitimately interested in. I love RS2 but it's nice to have something new
>>719907636Nam games are so rare, so I'm happy we're getting Hell Let Loose Vietnam. All that exists right now is past shelf life Rising Storm 2, which is still awesome. And Military Conflict Vietnam. Which has an even tinier playerbase. I haven't played the first Hell Let Loose so i don't know what to expect, I'm only assuming that this game is the Battlefield Vietnam that i always wanted. Or maybe it's more milsim? i have no idea what that means. Because some people call Rising Storm 2 milsim even though it's not completely hardcore. It's just hardcore for already casualized FPS game standards.
>3 million to 58k casualties >ummm you lost the war actually
>>719932239>you shoot G.I., you shoot!>bac bac bac!
>>719907897>>719909761Wow these are some obscure games
>>719907610every copy of Vietcong is personalized
>>719937623Yes, yes you did.
>>719932437>I'm surprised CoD never went all-in on a Vietnam War gameCoD won't do anything risky. Vietnam isn't covered in video games much because all the KGB installed 'peace activists' in the hippy movements of the 60s and 70s now work in video game studios, or at least the parents offspring who they passed their values (propaganda) onto are those people. Any time where we fought against world communism was bad.
>>719932437can’t make propaganda about a war where, even during its time, everybody knew that we were the baddies
>>719908082The low ceiling on this game made the game feel absolutely shit.
An SP game about Vietnam war might be good if you aren't playing as some ultimate-hero-badass-1-man-army. Like, if you die, you respawn as another soldier, loses all gears, but the war continues and you can embark on the same missions to find your old bodyWaitAm I insinuating.. Nam dark souls?Ok, how the fuck do we portray the brutality of the war?
>>719920576Have to agree the foliage and being able to hear the enemy in the distance but blinded by the jungle was sweet immersion.
>>719938639wasn't there already a war game with this concept?
>>719938757I think there was a game like that, just not in Nam settings, if anything, that sounds like a doubleA title novelty
>>719938689Exactly, they aimed for a tense situation of feeling exposed in dense terrain where the enemy could be anywhere. The troop dialogue helped too iirc. Haven't felt the same in another game. Maybe Halo 2 on legendary but nah

>>719942601>yfw you hear "rejžožrouti zasraní"
i played Arma S.O.G. Prairie Fire with friends for over a month. that shit was insane. huddled up in the jungle waiting for backup while being shot at. along with mortars or snipers around in the dark. super intense.
>>719906468>Games where you play as the bad guys
>>719938825 Yeah, sounds like one of those Eurojank passion projects that slips under everyone's radar but ends up having a cult following on Steam. Probably had perma-death, janky animations, and a soundtrack made by a guy named Igor who only listens to war documentaries and synthwave. Honestly, the idea could slap if done right-mix that with some Brothers in Arms squad mechanics and bam, Nam Souls.
its the best Vietnam war game out there. If you find a good group you can recreate any experience, from patrolling in river boats, conducting air assaults, engaging in major set piece battles like Ia Drang, and most of all (and its something a lot of new vietnam games don't try to do), going on quiet platoon sized patrols actually having to find the enemy.
>>719920378I mean, Pterodon made Vietnamese campaign in Vietcong 2. Too bad that game was utter shite
Where's my Sino-Vietnamese/Third Indochina War game?
>>719906468SOG: Prairie Fire is the most fun I’ve had in years. Nothing beats playing in a squad of absolute killing machines fighting for survival.

>>719944914You could easily make a script to do that in the editor. Its not in vanilla due to copyright of course
