I'm gonna be honest, I think Hollow Knight is the better game.The areas are nice and all, but they kind of blend in each other after you start exploring.Mobs are also way too fucking tanky, which leads to you having to wait for the right opportunity with every attack.And this is especially apparant in act 2, when even shitty mobs start doing 2 masks of damage.The lack of mask and weapon upgrades is also questionable at best. You can't even do something else to get stronger, your only options is to keep bashing your head against a boss until it gives.

I... am getting filtered bros. I don't know how I'm supposed to get stronger. Don't think I've found any NPC that upgrades my needle, all the tools I have are fairly low DPS or not very well suited for wrecking major enemies or bosses, mask shards and silk shards are rarer the unicorns, my attack range seems tiny, bosses hitting 2x mask damage means I die in 3 hits, etc. Just struggling right now, and I didn't struggle nearly as much in Hollow Knight.The only really big difficulty spike I remember in Hollow Knight is Soul Sanctum. This game so far feels like it's had 3 Soul Sanctum spikes so far, and I haven't even beaten the big bird in Greymoor yet.

Honestly of all the Crests I've found so far the unlock requirements for Witch is maybe the funniestFor those that care Do the Pollip Heart quest in Shellwood, progress until Act 2 and then unlock Clawline in the Underworks. This lets you open a Ring doors in a hidden room in the Whispering Vaults, which takes you to a new section of Bilewater, which itself has a secret area where you get an item called a Twisted Bud, which just plays a constant screaming noise while looking at your inventory (yes its annoying). You bring it to the Pollip questgiver, the take you to a new area of Shellwood and locks you out of your Crests and Silk (so no Healing), and you have to talk to NPCs to find this one NPC who can fix it, and then you find them and they need you to go to the Muckroach Guts questgivers in Sinners Road, pay 250 beads, take the item they give you back THEN you get to have your Silk and Crests fixed and get the funniest cutscene I've seen so farAlso it probably has my favorite moveset of any crest so like that's pretty cool

I think the combat and platforming has been improved a lot over hollow knight but for whatever reason exploring isn't as interesting. I think it's because areas are so much larger and filled with more empty space presumably to account for your faster speed. There used to be something new to discover every 5 seconds in hollow knight and it's taking noticeably longer to get that new thing in silksong. I hope updates add a bunch of new stuff all over the maps

I will say much like the first game Silksong just keeps surprising me.Like all kinds of surprises whether it's something dumb, something cool, something infuriating, something cute, etc. The game genuinely does not stop surprising me.And I think that's one of the most important parts of a metroidvania for me desu.

I'm pretty sure it's only Hunter that upgrades because it doesn't have a "Bonus" by default like the others do (well Wanderer doesn't either but w/e), the later upgrades (by returning to Eva after you get more Crests/Progressing) are just additional universal slots, so far I've gotten a Yellow and Blue one, so not having any Yellow slots isn't TOO Bad. The one issue I have with it is that it changes your Heal to be an AOE attack that only heals if you hit things, which makes it a lot harder to use/more situational, which sucks because I love the moveset otherwise

By the time player reaches Hunter's March you should've been given at least one damage upgrade and at least one mask. Instead, you get "upgrades" that feel borderline meaningless.
