Man, I remember modding JPOG to have all the dig sites on my PC. But one major problem with that, and even the JWE games is that storms are the only thing you have to actually worry about and they are more of an annoyance than anything.
>>
I remember seeing a Jurassic Park arcade game when I was 8, and I remember watching my friend shoot a giant alligator in it. It was badass.
>>
>>719932561
I miss the artstyle and colors from JPOG

>>719932970
All pre JW dinosaur designs whether they be from illustrations, concept art or even fan art were miles better than what came after. Rexy for example compared to the Baryonx or Indo designs looks jarring. Like two completely different franchises. The Carnotaur's look pretty good in FK but then in Rebirth you get the shitty "realistic" Spinosaurus design compared to 3's which in spite of the movie's flaws, nailed the dinosaurs.
>>
>>719933059
My friend and I didn't pay attention to the name. We just called it a "giant alligator".
>>
>>719933354
World's problem was making everything crocodilian, with osteoderms on the back and croc elements in the heads and faces. They finally eased up on it in Dominion except for the Giganotosaurus.
>rebirth spinosaurus
And then they went back to full crocodile with its head, the rest of the body may be paleo-accurate by that noggin sure isn't. Also the Spino that wakes up on the beach quadrupedally knnuckle-walks into the water, something that was suggested and dropped back in 2014.

Wild boars would make the dinosaurs go extinct in less than a century

>>719933773
>breed and train raptors to eat only wild pork
>release them into the wilderness
>sit back and watch the wold boar populations finally get under control
>>
>>719933853
Raptors would breed out of control. Black bears and wolves would find it hard to compete or kill with them. This was an issue on both the movie and books Site B islands, stating that the overpopulation and aggression of the raptors is whats causing so many problems.
>>
>>719933986
What part of "breed and train raptors to eat only wild pork" didn't you understand? The bears and wolves aren't doing anything to cull the pig population, they're eating everything else.
>>
>>719933853
>boars still vastly outbreed raptors
>feed on their vulnerable eggs
>quickly devastates the raptor population
Boars are a nightmare for nearly anything that lays their eggs on the ground. It's other mammals that keep their populations in check, not reptiles.
>>
>>719934126
You’re never gonna train a predatory species to eat only one specific kind of prey, thats impossible. Hell the movies say its impossible to train them to a certain degree as they betray and attack Chris Pratt halfway into the movie.

Ignoring the fact that boars would easily replace any lost to predation thanks to their incredibly fast breeding cycle and how quickly they reach sexual maturity, the number of raptor eggs lost to boars would far exceed the number of boars lost to raptors. If anything, the real predator in this scenario is the boar.

You would have more success with big cats and wolves than dinosaurs.

Christ, are you deliberately ignoring parts of my posts? WE are supplying the raptors from farms, waves of adults released into the wild. It doesn't matter if their attempts to breed in the wild are eaten by the boars, we're still pumping them out until a number is reached or the boars are culled.

I love the design, but why did they make it the same size as the Indominus rex? That's another thing the movies do that irritates me, they make most of the theropods too goddamned big like they think everything needs to be the size of Tyrannosaurus.

Allosaurus, and to a secondary extent Ceratosaurus, are such great "cool monster figurine" design. I love them. I think they're better than the T-rex. The fact that they dug up all these fossils from the Late Jurassic and due to the number & frequency of Allosauruses clumped together, and the amount of bite & scar marks on a massive range of herbivores, implies they were both pack animals and completely ravenous cunts that attacked everyone, makes them even more endearing.

>>719934163
>>719933773

I don't know where you're getting this idea from: dinosaurs were all r-selected breeders, matured rapidly, lived in an ecological period with insane levels of violence, and were all patently familiar with both defending themselves and their eggs.

Exactly. Something about every dinosaur design before World actually feels like it belongs to the same franchise, like there was always a "Jurassic' element to the design.
Look at the TLW Giga compared to the Dominion Giga. One looks like a colorful addition to Jurassic Park's theropod roster, and the other looks like it was designed by some Redditor that fell for the "JP dinos don't look and act like REAL animals" meme and made it based off that notion of what they "think" a Jurassic Park dinosaur looks like.

The Dominion Giganotosaurus doesn't look anything like the real animal, same as most of the Park dinosaurs.

Dominion Giga's behavior is probably the closest thing to an actual animal in the whole series. But design wise its too much like the Indominus (yeah I know its part Giga but still) and doesn't stand out on its own enough. I think Dominion would've benefitted from not having a dino villain and just having Dodgson be the sole villain with no largescale final battle.

Really wish dinosaur games actually had a wider appeal beyond the connection to Jurassic Park. Doesn't even need to be scientifically accurate, just let me live out my boyhood fantasy of being a giant tyrannosaurus that battles rival dinosaurs and giant monsters and eats people.

As sad as it sounds the overall popularity of dinosaurs is dependent on Hollywood. Which was jumpstarted in the gaming era by JP. Both the Turok games and Dino Crisis owe their games existence to JP. The current lineup of JP movies being shit means that nobody cares to cash in on the trend.

Theres not too much in the way of dinosaur books or TV that hasn't been done already. Even Dinotopia got a TV series with the dude from Prison Break. Lost World, King Kong, Journey to the Center of the Earth, they've all been done before. Someone would have to create something entirely new and thats a gamble that doesn't pay off now. I'd love to one day see a dinosaur fantasy series or one that invokes the same sense of adventure early pulp did.

The earth-trembling thing, like the frog vision, was only for the film. Elephants can move surprising silently because their feet smother objects beneath them and have padding to muffle footfalls, large dinosaurs likely had similar structures. i've always liked ankylosaurs, but that one super preserved borealopelta is cool as fuck and tipped the scale (i know it's a nodosaur but still, close enough)
the marine reptiles of those days are wack, icthyosaurs were fuckhueg in the triassic, potentially bigger than a blue whale huge

sound anon, sound
cassowaries make low frequency rumbling sounds and crocs hiss, i imagine the rex would've done something similar
they also almost certainly would've had some padding on their feet to help with the sound of their steps and to help with their weight, being that big is pointless if you can't catch anything to maintain that size
>>

thanks, that makes sense (and quite gruesome)
>>
>>719942364
>sound anon, sound
oh I was referring to unintentional sounds
also no amount of padding can muffle the thump thump thump
they must have had some trick up their sleeve but the only plausible explanation till now is what that other anon said with chasing the pack until some of them collapsed

Dinosaurs are built differently from both of them, plus no bird or lizard has been the size of a Tyrannosaurus rex.

yes, but triceratops are slow and move in herds
a t-rex could approach from a forest or from behind a hill while the triceratops are at a watering hole and probably corner one before they could all escape

movies make them seem stupid but they must have been a lot smarter than herbivores (shielding sound, memorizing lots of terrain and geography)
>>
>>719942603
trikes might not have moved in very large groups, apparently small family groups were more likely the average most of the year
not saying it would be easy, but a rex or two would have a much better shot at snagging one trike out of 5 over 1 out of 20
>>
>>719942769
iirc there were studies done on the brain cases of rex' and they figured they were at least as smart as corvids, or close to it
>>
Remember that the animals Tyrannosaurus lived with and hunted weren't speed demons, either, which is why they developed herding tactics or weapons and armor for defense. Rex didn't need to run fast to catch prey, especially by using ambush tactics.

>An adult Tyrannosaurus rex had an exceptionally powerful bite, with studies estimating its force at around 35,000 to 57,000 newtons (approximately 7,800 to 12,800 pounds-force) at a single posterior tooth. This bite was strong enough to crush bone and was significantly more powerful than that of other terrestrial animals, enabling it to hunt large prey.

But hey, lets have this thing bite something then slam it into the ground instead.
Same bullshit as the Spinosaurus fight, the Trex has it's fucking neck in THE MOST POWERFUL LAND ANIMAL BITE FORCE and it just kind of shrugs it off and the Trex lets go?
That fight would have been over here with a crushed windpipe and broken neck.

Horner wanted something to replace the T. rex and told them to use Spinosaurus, so they designed it to look like a scary supermonster. Granted back then we didn't have much of it, only the sketches of the original fossils and some other little bits. It wasn't until after JPIII that we finally started finding more fossils and more complete ones at that, which was when Spino's look began evolving. Hell, before JPIII it was portrayed as a generic theropod with a sail because we didn't even have any of its skull.
>>
>>719943293
>m-muh real life
Has nothing to do with the films. In the films, the T. rex literally never killed anything in one bite. Blind retards like you throw a tantrum when 3 maintains keeps that consistent.

Rex would definitely lose to an Indominus lol. People really seethe at Indominus for some reason. I mean, the thing managed to slaughter an entire herd of sauropods all by itself, and managed to tank and anky tailclub and as well as bullets. It would destroy anything alive today

Rex did lose to Indominus. It had to get saved by a raptor and a mosasaur.

Yeah obviously. A T Rex could kill a mapusaurus, but mapusaurus hunted in packs so a Rex wouldn't really risk it in a hypothetical scenario where they lived together

>implies they were both pack animals and completely ravenous cunts that attacked everyone, makes them even more endearing.
Pretty sure we've dropped this, sadly. The Morrison formation happens to be centered around a massive pond that came and went seasonally and created abnormal conditions for animal groupings and congested death maps. The allosaurus fossils from that area are mostly just the predators who survived the hardships the most - but turned to cannibalism as the scarcity they helped create ratcheted up. The current model has them as maybe somewhat social and cooperative to an extent.

But the ravenous allosaur thing really is just because of the dire conditions of the region we find them in.

>What's the deal with dinosaurs and birds anyways? Is a T Rex related to birds in the same way a Lion is related to a housecat

A bird is related to a t.rex in the same way a heron is related to an alligator and in a similar way to how all four of them are vaguely related to each other. Birds, dinosaurs, reptiles, are all branches from the group "Archosaur" with dinosaurs and birds (as we know them) having shared a common ancestor that they split from sooner than other reptiles.

If it makes it make more sense: plenty of perfectly "normal" birds lived during dinosaur times that were analogous to modern day birds. It wasn't like the dinosaurs died out and then birds evolved to replace them (though in the absence of dinosaurs a handful of birds in South and Central America did evolve back into theropod-like terrorbirds).

no, they could track animals until they overheated and dropped dead
because humans could sweat and were not furry
throwing stuff and poking stuff was more of a defensive thing (a principle that still survives in the proper use of hand grenades)
