literally no metroidvania, indie or otherwise, has matched sotn's presentation, sprite quality, music, or production value. it's like a renaissance painting while all the rest are like children's doodles in comparison

I tried giving Hollow Knight another go after all the Silksong hype, but it’s just not as good as this game. Symphony of The Night is the benchmark for quality. If it doesn’t match the feel of this game, I don’t really see the point.

it's a shame none of the other sotn style castlevanias were as good as the original

People say the genre name is stupid but there's a reason it stuck; every single one plays like or is designed similarly to at least one of these.

There's plenty of Metroidvanias that can match SotN or at least come close. The genre is a vast ocean by this point and if everyone's just copying SotN or Super Metroid anyway then they have a great starting point.
>>
>>719937658
Why can't they copy super metroid instead?

Cave Story is the only indie Metroidvania that matters. Also it was a true indie game: No crowd funding, no published by big company, no shilled by journos friends. Just made by a hobbyist on his free time and released it at the internet for free.

Even when his game became globally popular and started being published by big company at consoles the creator stayed humble, unlike Western "indie" creators that get too high of their asses.

At least there are decent "indie" Metroidvania games. Good luck finding EVEN ONE Earthbound wanabee game that isn't tumblr crap or hipsteric "artistic" crap. Why all these Western Earthbound clones creators can't understand what actually made Earthbound great?

Castlevania > Metroid. The genre should be renamed to castleroid
>>
closest thing I seen that would feel like a SOTN sequel. Still nothing tops SOTN(original voices)

I beat it. I loved the high definition sprite art, it was the first game I played when I bought an OLED tv.

Gameplay wise its decent but derivative and really nothing special. It does have sexy elf girls obsessed with human men though which is all it really needed to be good.

And SOTN literally copied Wonderboy 3 (The entire first level, the "abilitease" at the start, the equipment system) and super metroid (the map system pixel-for-pixel, and everything else).

Castlevania brought nothing to the genre.
Falcom and Westone beat them to it with """rpg elements""" by a decade.
