OLED may not be as good as a very high end new old stock CRT. But its very close.

If you get a 4k 27 inch. The high PPI mostly fixes it.
>>
My phone is only five years old, but there are a bunch of burn ins on the top and bottom from the battery indicator and other things.

Any benefits you get from OLED are overshadowed by the planned obsolescence of the tech.

Motion blur out the wazoo, plus a list a mile long of other problems. They're terrible for gaming.

Plasmas are still the best TV's for (HD) gaming.
CRT for everything else (6th gen and below).

Their lifespan is a fraction of LCDs. It's absurd. Especially considering they cost so much.

CRT had burn in also. Especially on monocrome monitors.

Techspot used extreme settings like full brightness on all the time and even after 15 months its very faint. My OLED tv got around 6 - 8 hours usage a day for almost 6 years and got no burn in. It was a bit dimmer. I am happy with 6 years. I sold it for a newer OLED tv

Not as good in motion clarity. Whenever someone figures out how to make Blur Busters CRT beam simulation/CRT 60hz simulation shader work flawlessly on OLED monitors with shaderglass app then we'll be finally in a more ideal place for high refresh rate OLED monitors. This is a major secondary reason i bought a 240hz 4k OLED monitor, despite knowing my framerates wouldn't be hitting that. To be able to run that specific shader that requires high refresh for optimal results. Or G-sync Pulsar OLEDs might be capable of something similar in the future so that has the potential to be exciting, i haven't seen how that works yet with my own eyes so it's hard to say.
Last time i checked it had syncing issues, and i don't know if it ever got addressed. Link to it below:
https://github.com/mausimus/ShaderGlass/releases/tag/v1.2.0-bfi-alpha1

^ if this gets figured out then we're closed to not needing to discuss CRTs anymore in regards to gaming. If you got it working then maybe i did something wrong. 240hz is minimum.
>>
>>719941895
The only way to get burn in with CRT was to let it running at max brightness for over a year or so.
OLED burns in after normal use in like 2 months.

I'm sure 99.9999999999999% of OLEDs are perfect and never fail, that's why they're everywhere and replaced LCD back in 2006 when they first came out :)

QD-OLED and WOLED have a non-standard pixel layout that causes this fringing problem, most clearly visible with text.
>>
>>719946595
oh dear. is it just a current limitation of the technology, like they can't make the oleds as small as normal leds for the multiple subpixel lights per pixel or something?
>>
>>719946101
it's funny how poors always try and validate themselves not having anything good while imposing nobody else should have it either.
>>
>>719946768
I believe the problem is that software expects a LCD like pixel layout. Apparently developers can compensate for the different pixel layouts, which Adobe has done for example.

Even if OLED didn't burn it, it still has
>shitty pixel layout
>VRR flicker
>low luminance issues (dirty screen/black crush)
>aggressive ABL
and if you throw in inevitable burn-in on top of all that...are your "perfect blacks" really worth it?
>>
>>719947229
nigger we solved this years ago with simple RGB layouts in CRTs and LCDs
OLED is just a piece of shit technology
>>
>>719947590
It mostly the response time that makes it worth it. Contrast is fantastic but like 90% of all content doesnt have pure blacks to begin with.
Vrr flicker is a huge fucking problem tho.
As a tv, I love it, its also great for more vintage gaming, but I still use a high end IPS for pc gaming
>>
>>719947741
response time is kind of moot when it still suffers from the inherent flaws of sample-and-hold motion display
>>
>>719941621
I have had this phone for seven and never had issues and I've never heard anyone with an oled phone having issues. You just had bad luck just like the people who get dead pixels after couple of years in their monitors do. This hardly means that the tech is somehow bad

they have to make them flawed so they can sell the next generation

Doesn't matter - until you can do per pixel then it is just a stop gap.
>>
>>719949368
I don't think you comprehend the size of a pixel on a 4k display
past a certain amount of diming zones, it would be indistinguishable from per pixel illumination in nearly 100% of all media content
>>
>>719949496
I hate that my cursor becomes dark in a black scene on my 4K QDEL TV with over 1600 zones
>>
>>719949496
>you imbeciles just can't comprehend what I can easily comprehend...
white text on black will have blooming unless it's per pixel.
>>
>>719949551
That's a combination of dimming zones + algorithm
they could absolutely make it to where your cursor doesn't dim, but depending on the zone size there would be significant bloom
even your cursor is made up of several hundred pixels
I would say dimming zones the size of an average cursor would be the limit of what is needed
>>
>>719949608
white text on black will even appear to bloom on OLED due to the way your eyes work
>>
>>719949651
so adding even more blooming helps it does it?
>>
>>719949675
No, I'm saying it would be indistinguishable from OLED after a certain point of zone size.
Per pixel isn't needed in a vast majority of use cases.

This is objectively wrong. OLEDS retain their brightness for years after LCD brightness plummets due to age. Having a bit of burn-in doesn't render the screen useless, you know that right?
Just like when you buy a brand new LCD and the blacks are a bright navy blue, and the colours shift when you rotate the screen -- these are not ideal and look shit, but the screen still works. You can continue to use it.
