What do you think Red Dead towns would look like in the modern day? Would they be major cities or just some irrelevant towns.
I literally can not get my mind on the timeline of Westerns. At one point its the 1700's, at another point its right before world war 1. Make up your fucking mind amerisharts.
>>719942104Depends on the town
>>719942173It never in the 1700s, it's during early 19th century at the earliest and early 20th at the latest. Most westerns take place in the mid to late 19th century though.
>>719942173thats just rdr2 trying to be "revisionist." usually its from the end of the civil war up to the 1890s. the late 18th/early 19th century is the fur trapper era which was pretty wild in itself.
>>719942173Seriously?I've always thought they're in the post civil war period to roughly the early 20th century
>>719942398that guy is obviously retarded, go easy on him
>>719942104Blackwater and Saint Denis could be major cities but the other towns probably are irrelevant
>>719942104St Denis is New Orleans and entire videos exist to show all the details that have been made just to make them more similar. Look at New Orleans now.
>>719942104the geography of rdr2 only selectively resembles real life. you can only pinpoint saint denis as new orleans. everything else is speculation.
>>719942686Blackwater is one of those last towns before the wild west, similar to Houston.
>>719942104Blackwater is the economic center of the entire state of West Elizabeth so it's probably something like Houston in real life. Probably a hundreds of thousands or even a million or two in population by now
>>719942173Red Dead is retarded because it's the 1910s or some shit but "noooo you go to a Podunk town still stuck in the 1870s!!". Sure, there WERE Podunk towns like that but then the game acts like you enter all these different regions like states and they're all Podunk towns. You have to partially blame that the game was written by a fucking Brittoid.
>>719942104What if a Red Dead game had time traveling? You switch between cowboy days and now. Your choices in the past change what is does or doesn't exist in the present.
>>719942173I read your post and its replies and suddenly I'm reminded just how many actual retards this board is harboring
>>719942173Here ill be nice anon, what you said is like conflating the early Renaissance with the Victorian era.Or ]conflating Simon Bolivar with the Conquistadores
>>7199421739/10 bait, I see you caught a lot
>>719942173first off, all yuros are gay and retarded, they still haven't invented AC, you gay retard. Secondly, all westerns are going to take place between 1804 (the Louisiana Purchase) and 1917 (WWI) With most taking place between 1860 and 1890. Red Dead specifically takes place really late in terms of the wild west, basically anything after 1876 would be super late because that would be little bighorn and basically the last time the injins ever successfully fought back
>>719942886nah a lot of the geography is also pretty obvious if you're familiar with inland America. the plains outside of Valentine are directly inspired by the Pawnee Grasslands on the border of Colorado Wyoming and Nebraska. Big Valley is lifted from a western TV show from the 70s which was filmed in northern California. the Sequoia groves in Tall Trees firmly place it in the Sierra Nevada. Van Horn is a near 1:1 remake of Natchez Mississippi, and Annesburg is really similar to a mining town in Newfoundland of all places. Roanoke Ridge, despite the name, is geographically very similar to the Ozarks in Arkansas. the saguaro in Cholla Springs mark it out as the Sonoran desert of southern Arizona, and the yucca in Gaptooth Ridge means it's the Mojave desert of southern California. I shouldn't have to explain what the Grizzlies are based on.I did find it strange how much focus they gave to Louisiana/New Orleans, meanwhile they completely excluded regions like the Great Basin or the Arizona mountains.if the wanted a big city, they could've gone with Dodge City. Dodge (and North Platte) was a bustling rail town where every year thousands of cowboys would come riding in with the year's cattle herd, to be shipped off back east. and they'd bring all sorts of violence and debauchery with them after spending weeks on the trail. Both towns had a population in the thousands, circa 1890.
>>719943127the Mexican Revolution was in 1911, with bandito guerrillas crossing over into the border states to engage in general lawlessness happening until nearly 1920. the last remaining Indian tribes didn't finally concede to the feds until 1923, and the final real outlaw gang train robbery attempt was in the same year. of course it wasn't nearly as heated as it was in the years immediately following the end of the civil war, but still.
>>719946315>I did find it strange how much focus they gave to Louisiana/New Orleansobviously inspired by django unchained and the hateful 8. agreed, swamps in a western story is weird, but even CoJ gunslinger had a swampy level
>>719946649The last stagecoach robbery in the US happened in 1916. Hell even Arizona and New Mexico didn't become states until 1912
>>719946741there were outlaw gangs on horses well into the 1930s, that really says nothing
>>719942173because you don't understand what the wild west is. it's more properly called the 'frontier era', when white settlers were pushing ever westward, fighting territorial wars with native Indians and bringing them and nature itself to heel as they tried to carve out a slice of America for themselves without Uncle Sam's oversight. the very founding of the American colonies in 1620 set the precedent for what would follow over the next 250 years. Even the location changed over time as society made its way westward. the Midwest is called that because 'The Frontier' was originally territories like Ohio and Kentucky. then it pushed out to Arkansas and Missouri. then onwards. if you want an actual pinpoint year for the 'classic era', then 1873 to 1895. the introduction of the Colt Army revolver + the classic Winchester rifle, lasting until the widespread introduction of machine guns and bolt action rifles by the US army.
>>719946819>there were outlaw gangs on horses well into the 1930sDamn that is really hard to imagine for some reason
>>719946315>>719946739This + Guarma is what really annoyed me about II. Most of the game doesn't take place in a western setting and tries too hard to be Tarantino rather than Leone. I don't want to roam through the bayou and fight old plantation houses I want the wide open range with cowboys and indians
>>719946992but the remington army 1858 is every bit as classic
>>719946739I wasn't opposed to them doing the Hatfield v McCoy/Southern Gotchic thing, I just didn't like how it took up fully ⅓ of the entire runtime of the game. Especially with how the story is set up, the average player probably spent the most time in Chapter 3, the Rhodes chapter.
>>719947136sure but the ability to reload actual cartridges was a gamechanger. before 1873, Smith&Wesson had the patent on cartridge revolvers and they didn't have a major army contract so there weren't millions of surplus pistols going around for pennies. the Colt 45 was a gamechanger. especially if instead of Colt 45 you got it chambered in 44-40 Winchester, so your Winchester and your Colt could share ammo.
>>719942104Blackwater is inspired by St. Louis, Missouri. So just look up modern pics of how that city looks like nowadays and you've got it.
>>719947134Redemption 1 already perfected the Video Game Sergio Leone vibe. I wanted them to go full John Ford.
>>719942294>thats just rdr2 trying to be "revisionist">usually its (...) up to the 1890s>90% of rdr2 is 1899What did anon mean by this
>>719947385did you skip the prologue?
>>719947473RDR2, famous for letting you skip its prologue
>>719947620i mean the rdr prologue, which comes at the end of rdr2
>>719947664Thus the "90% of rdr2" part. Might as well say RDR1 given it takes place 4 years after 2's epilogue.
>>719947350>look up modern pics of how that city looksLooks okay I guess
>>719944223Bait isn't a real concept. You zoomoids need to understand that engagement was a metric thought up by marketing suits and we all know how retarded those are. Just because someone calls you an idiot doesn't mean you won somehow. Trolling is when you use wit and creativity to lead someone astray by being clever not taking intellectual pratfalls and claiming victory when laughed at.
>>719942104It would probably have been demolished to make way for a highway.
>>719947350>>719948545I always thought Blackwater was supposed to be Austin Texas
>>719948615It took inspiration from many cities and its all speculation on what city it would be in real life. People in the thread have said Houston and St. Louis but I think Austin is also a decent guess at least geographically speaking
>>719942173Most of them have an action happening during an unspecified year of the 1870/1880s and even then when you look at movies people back then were not as pedantic as they are today. So for instance in 1870's significant amount of firearms in common use would not use metallic cartridges, especially among civilians, but in the movie world they will all rock 1873 SAA and Winchesters 1892 or 1894(simply because these rifles could've been bought relatively cheaply in pawnshops by the 1940's).Some more modern westerns tried to go for more authenticity at least when it came to weapons which are easier to track than fashion - Eastwoods own movies(as in the ones he directed) are notorious for gun autism, Sam Peckinpah was also big on it etc. The point however is that the western media isn't particularly historically accurate they're just running in a parallel reality and you can think of costumes and requisites as just random theatre props people had lying around, accuracy is irrelevant, the story they wanted to tell is.
>>719948545that is a nice plazaI want to skate that plaza
>>719948578This
>>719949502people in spaghetti westerns are dressed in the 1960s fashions, with tight drainpipe jeans and beatles mops.by the way, it's crazy to think wyatt earp was alive in the 1920s and was a consultant of cowboy movies.
>>719949535That's a very old photo. Heres a more recent pic of how it looks
>>719942173I can't believe I share my board with actual retards that don't have basic middle school education
>>719942838I like new orleans architecture, i do miss when they actually put effort into the look of houses unlike today.
>>719946649>>719946741most of the things we associate with the wild west happened during or before the civil war. custards last stand 1876 and ok corral 1881 were notable because they happened so late when the west was relatively peaceful. one of the shitposts is that by the time the Winchester 1873 came out, aka the gun that won the west, the west wasn't really wild anymore
>>719946992it's more like 1803-1876. most stories that take place after 1876 are thematically about the dying days of the old west and time passing people by
Here's your historical center bro
>>719947274there were only like 750,000 1873s sold and sales didn't really end until 1923. they were cool guns but would have been semi rare at the time
>>719951232why does this enrage and infuriate the euro so?
>>719942173RDR2 takes place in 1899
>>719951273the US population was only around 40~ million. that's roughly 1 for every 50 people, but remember most of the population lived out east and owned no guns at all. in somewhere like Arizona or Colorado with minuscule populations it was very much in realm of possibility that over half the population was in possession of either a Colt or a Winchester.
>>719942173>Ywn get a western in the 1700s with linear warfare and musketsDamn Italians.
>>719951383Americans are European
>>719942104Like this probably
>>719951383Don't mistake pity for rage.
>>719951383why does this picture turn every american who gazes upon it into a walking nuclear bomb?
>>719951383He's angry that his country is the size of one US state, and since euros spent the last 2000 years trying to conquer their entire subcontinent, they are mad they have failed.
>>719951383yuros are too retarded and poor to drive>>719951484nah, there were 750,000 guns sold over a 50 year period. most people would have owned either a smoothbore shotgun/fowling piece or a muzzle loading rifle from the civil war. obviously some people did own wichester rifles and they were present at little bighorn, but they wouldn't have been ubiquitous like ARs are now. Also a lot of the guns were owned by guys back east. Teddy Roosevelt had a bunch of winchester rifles and you see winchester rifles get shorter magazines as you get closer to WWI because injin attacks wouldn't have been common anymore
>>719951530nah, we Americans>>719951590>cherry picked photo of LA
>>719951813Every good thing in America came from and is a derivative of Europe. The further away from Europe America strays, the worse it becomes
>>719951907nah. America is based because we told yurop to eat shit and die
>>719951949We are both eating shit and dying you moron. But I know you probably aren't even white so whatever
>>719942104Probably some massive parking lot
>>719952050I am white. keep crying
>>719952094Then why are you wishing ill on your own brothers
>>719952168>yuros >my brothersnah, you are faggot commies and all yuros are annoying as shit. mexibros are cooler
>>719942104you will see in GTA VI, I believe it takes place in the same universe as Red Dead
>>719952223>mexibros are coolerTell me you are a spic without telling me you are a spic
>>719952286Not confirmed yet if RDR and GTA are in the same universe. Even if it is, GTA 6 is gonna take place in Miami so we probably won't know anyway
>>719942173The south had a real hardon for neoclassic French architecture, it's like they were trying to build up their own aristocracy and needed to look the part. Look up what a plantation mansion looks like, big white marble columns where the norm, and you'd best believe the interiors would be furnished with furniture made by French craftsmen, though the US wasn't laking in its own who could ape them.
>>719952295I'm white, I don't have a drop of latinx or injin or indian or chinaman or black dna in me. mexibros are cooler than yuros >>719952379lousiana was a former french colony
>>719952368there is a cute easter egg in GTA V where Jack Marston's book "Red Dead Redemption" is on Franklins bookshelf iircit's only an easter egg though, I think even R* said as such
>>719952510Yes it's just an easter egg, but some politician in RDR2 is featured on the dollar bills in GTA 6 so maybe they will canonize the connection. But for now we'll have to wait and see
>>719949960Man they sure fucked that up
>>719942104Only Saint Denis cause it's literally just New Orleans
>>719951589Don't >can't afford ACmistake >has 50% of his income stolenpity >waits 8 months for doctor's appointmentfor >is arrested for mean tweetsrage >gets stabbed by ahmed
