Back then, yes. On replays nowadays I don't give a fuck, I just get the mountain or river chocobo (whichever let's you get quadra magic, it was mountain iirc) and thats it.

On one playthrough I did the whole Chocobo thing. The catching, the racing, the feeding, the breeding, all to get KOTR for meself. Only thing I've never done is take out Emerald and Ruby. Even back then I never had the patience to do the prep work for that.

Kinda surprised it didn't become a staple of the series. The raising, racing could have even been it's own spin-off outside of the dungeon games they did with the berds, wark.
