Would it have been kino?
>>719959570Never. It was doomed to fail because corporate kept interfering and the team behind it never really had all that much of an idea of what to do with the concept of 3D Sonic.
which version? theres two of them. one is a pc game that doesn't work on saturn at all. the other is a saturn tech demo that was hell to develop for.
>>719959570Sonic Lost World, and it ended up being a Mario clone
>>719959570I'm certain I would have at least tried it.
>>719959570Sega barely knew what they were doing during the Dreamcast. Of course this would have sucked
>>719959570>hey we need a new sonic game for our upcoming console >I know we’ll have this random c team work on our most important saturn project and let the actual sonic team dick around with funny jestersThe fuck was sega smoking back then?
>>719959570It looked like shit. So yeah, people nowadays would pretend it's good like with Sonic 06.
>>719959570It would've been mediocre at best. It might have given Saturn another year in the west, but it would've buried the Sonic franchise before it picked enough momentum to be able to survive anything.
>>719959570>Would it have been kino?Imagine Bug but with a disorientating fisheye lens over the whole thing.Sounds good? No, of fucking course it doesn't.
>>719959570The fish eye lens fucking sucks
>>719962064Bug is the one game that convinced me that games can age. It was torture to play through.
>Would it have been kino?If SoJ disbanded in the 90's, probably.
>>719959920Such is the story with most games and never changes despite countless failures
>>719959570With some more time in the oven, a less disorienting camera, and analog support? No. Definitely not. But "decent for the time"? Maybe. It certainly would've impacted 3D Sonic's design going forward, I think. We wouldn't have made the jump straight to "dude what if Sonic but in DA REAL WORRRLD" shit that Naka was so fascinated by, so there's a small chance they might have taken cues from X-Treme instead for SA1, potentially making it much more like the beta Windy Valley in terms of art direction. >>719960709Yuji Naka's farts, apparently. He's a big reason why X-Treme never got finished, even if it wasn't looking good to begin with. I also strongly suspect that he's the reason why people like Ohshima left after SA1, which is a shame, since he and others like him helped shape what Sonic was in the 90s, and once they left, the shift in direction was extremely noticeable. It's nice that they got together later in life to work on Balan and all that, but still, wish Naka's ego hadn't pushed Ohshima out. (Reminder that Ohshima is not credited in SA:DX's original Sonic Team credits. Look it up. Can't be unintentional.)>>719961815>it would've buried the Sonic franchise before it picked enough momentum to be able to survive anything.I severely doubt one (1, at that point) mediocre mainline Sonic title would've sunk the franchise, anon. And one more year for the Saturn is actually very optimistic, since another year to live would've made all the difference for the Dreamcast's development. Who knows what could've changed during that era because of such a thing?
>>719960709Sonic Team had worked on four Sonic games in a row at that point and they'd refused point-blank to make another one until NiGHTS was finished. And Sonic was never popular in Japan so Sega of Japan probably didn't see anything with that.
