>>719963259don't care it's been too long
>>719963259They wouldn't wait that long to announce it if it was actually happening
>>719963259What if they release it on steam without any marketing ?
there isn't even any new exciting tech for HL3 yet
Sure. I'll believe it when I see it.
What would the societal impact of a shadow dropped Half-Life 3 be?
Nobody cares about half life anymore, the momentum is dead a long time ago
>>719964657I care a lot about it and am still a little butthurt.
>>719963259fake and gay. Now put my fries in the basket.
>source 2 holy KEK that trash engine in 2025? what next, are they going to port it to unreal engine 3?
>>719964197i don't care. i just want closure. end this series already
>>719964623I would lose my shit personally but I'd expect people to mostly not care initially other than going "Hey, isn't that the 'lmao can't count to 3' game?" But if the game has mind blowing gameplay and tech that also appeals to the mainstream instead of just fans, then word of mouth should give it a lot of hype pretty quick. If it doesn't then it'll probably just be mildly popular rather than break the internet popular.
>>719964623Valve would be stupid to shadowdrop it just because some redditors want it to for meme reasons, considering it's not really the most hyped game in the world anymore after people got tired of all the red herring over the years.
>>719964623If what OP describes were actually real, it would probably be my game of the decade.
I don’t want Half-Life 3. I want Artifact.Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
>>719963259>PLATFORM: WINDOWS, LINUX, STEAMOS>LINUX, STEAMOS
>>719963259They missed the boat a decade ago
>>719963259>source Tyler Mcvickerinto the trash it goes
>>719964858HALF LIFE 3 BRANCH OF SOURCE 2 ENGINE HAS BEEN FULLY UPGRADED DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT. FOR ALL THE ASPECTS, SUCH AS PHYSICS, DRIVING, AND GAMEPLAY, THE BEST DEVELOPERS IN THE FIELD HAVE BEEN HIRED.
>>719963259>development time: 2019-2026nah bro, its more like 2007-2037its been in development so long that i'm seeing the same cope, word-for-word, that i saw ten to fifteen years ago.
>>719965358WHY ARE YOU YELLING
>>719965364Same. I thought some of these guys were just trolling, but I've had some conversations on here with people who are either incredible gullible and/or under 25.
>>719965364THE 2013 HALF LIFE 3 DID NOT SURVIVE LONG AND WAS CANCELLED EARLY. YOU CAN REFER TO "FINAL HOURS OF HALF-LIFE ALYX" FOR MORE INFORMATION. THIS CURRENT HALF-LIFE 3 PROJECT STARTED IN 2019, EXPERIMENTATION STARTED SHORTLY BEFORE HALF-LIFE ALYX ENDED DEVELOPMENT.
>>719965558BUT WHY IS GABEN SO FAT?!
>>719965558this is what i'm talking about, i'm getting deja vu. "naw bro it was cancelled and restarted but its totally almost ready this time," this is the third time i've seen this argument throughout the years.

>>719963259>PROJECT LEAD: ROBIN WALKERwhy would the multiplayer guy at valve direct a singleplayer game you fat brown nigger>No verification required
>>719966158wasnt he the lead for alyx?
>>719964197Good. Valve should stop doing this meme. Not every game has to be a tech demo of the newest tech.
>>719966158ROBIN WALKER WAS THE PROJECT LEAD FOR "HALF-LIFE ALYX" (2020). ARE YOU DUMB, RETARD?
>>719964197Ai?
>>719966229He and Dario Casali were the leads.
>>719963259I thought the previous game was supposed to be Half Life 3.
>>719964623They'd drop an official teaser one week in advance.
Half Life 3 will be announced in under 24 hours
The game is about making speedrun Gordon canon.
>>719966428Far from Half-Life 3. Prequel (continued the story for 5 seconds, I know), and you did not play as Gordon. Far from the mythical third game.
>>719964197The Deckard
>>719967964really enjoyed HL:A but did not enjoy the superhero shit at the end and how that's going to affect the story of HL3 if it ever releases
>>719968259Same.
>STAND. LISTEN. SNOOZE. QUIT.It better not be another HL2
>we could have released Episode 3 but we just didn't lolfuck off you fat bastard
>>719963259Only 95? That's pretty low, isn't it?
>>719964950Valve already told people who want closure to fuck off by retconning the cliffhanger with a different cliffhanger in a VR exclusive. Having marketed the episodes as a trilogy, they just needed to release one more small game; nothing revolutionary was expected at that point, and just having the G-Man show up and say "game's over now" after a boss fight would have been accepted as a satisfactory ending by fans who had already accepted that as the ending of most Half-Life games prior to Episode One, so giving you "closure" with Episode Three would have been a lot easier than whatever world-shattering thing people imagine Half-Life 3 will have to be. They chose not to do it anyway.
>>719965825Wat show me
>>719964623Would be a crazy ass balls powermove. Just drop it and be done with it.
If they were smart they'd never call it Half Life 3 because there's no way it would live up to the hype
>>719968398It's Valve we're talking about. Their games are not open-world bloatware.
>>719963259Now that Silksong is out we're back to being schizophrenic about this game, I see.
>>719968561I've always thought this was bullshit. If they release something as good and substantial as Half-Life 2, something they're entirely capable of doing, and call it Half-Life 3, I would be happy.
>>719963259kys Tyler McNigger
>>719968662I've been seeing a lot of this in 2025, amusingly. I guess Tyler McVicker made an especially compelling video about HLX that garnered him some new acolytes.
>>719964623Has any shadow dropped game ever done well?
>>719968662HL3 is the ultimate never-ever game; it will always come back to this.
>>719963259Fake and gay
>>719968763Oblivion remake did pretty good.
>>719968398the have less than 400 people at valve, (i've read they can't hire more than 400 people without going public). But they do use contractors, they outsourced some assets to thirdparties.
>>719968561Redditors being "hyped" about shit that was never announced is probably what killed the series. Arguably it's Valve's own fault for releasing two-thirds of an episodic trilogy and then stopping, but it didn't help that people saw the delay in Episode Three and immediately thought "WOOOOW THIS MUST MEAN IT'S HALF-LIFE 3 INSTEAD!!!" and started exponentially hyping up their expectations for the unannounced and non-existent game from that very moment as if it's been in development since 2008.
no matter what valve makes HL3 will never live to expectations and they know it
>>719969125wanna bet its better than you expect?
>>719968764its actually pic related since it got way more time in the oven than HL3, but no one really cares about it and only the niche remaining fanbase of the first game are expecting it to either be finally cancelled or to ubisoft to shadow drop it then pretend nothing happened.
>>719969125It's been so long that it'd be a high expectation if the game came out at all.
>>719963259Alright then, if you know so much post the weapon roster. Everyone seems to know when it comes out but nobody can provide something as simple as that.
>>719964023The only way to release HL3 at this point is to just release it the moment it is announced
>>719969371Caring about both this game and Episode 3 have made me the most psychologically resilient man on Earth. I've suffered more emotional damage than combat veterans and famine victims.
>>719964623A good 3rd of the it industry would call in sick for a week. Nothing catastrophic but it would genuinely have an impact on normies who've never even heard of half-life when a wesite stops working or something.
>>719969125Other than exceptions like Doom and Metro, single-player FPS games are a dying breed. Having HL3 come out and being good is already a miracle.
>>719969405pistolsmgrocket lawnchairrevolvershotguni can't say the rest but expect more news soon ;^)>>719969483you should have jumped the ship the moment they announced it was gonna be a strong affro woman prequel.
>>719969640Eh, the first game was already about a fierce azn grrl who don't take no shit and knows martial arts. It didn't bother me.
>>719969371The game being an always-online pseudo multiplayer killed any modicum of anticipation for it.
I hope it's a strand type MMO with weapon skin loot boxes!
Y'all cared enough to post in the thread, I mean...
>>719969441they gotta make sure enough people can buy VR headset in time
>>719963259If true, I wonder if it will still have physics.
>>719970090If I'm not mistaken, they made Source 2 primarily so that they could replace Havok with their own physics engine.
>>719968843Then everyone shadowdropped it back
boomer franchise
>>719964623Same as half life alyx. Fact is half life 3 could release and flop and it wouldn't affect valve that much
>>719969483I'd put being a Halo fan up there. I almost would rather be a Half Life fan. After all the slop that's been produced after Halo 3 I wish they just didn't release anything at all.
>>719968398If you assume OP is real
>>719963259just finish the story as a movie
>>719970580Oh, man. I'm sorry bro. My closest friend is one of you guys.
>>719970580Yeah, being a Halo fan is pain. Four great games (Thats CE, 2, 3 and ODST), and then a never ending deluge of pain. Infinite looked promising but it was just too plain in the end.I miss when Halo was proper M-Rated.
>>719963259I have uncslop fatigue
>>719965825>>719965558>>719965358i like this guy. you got gumption , kid.

I... will be keeping a close eye and report to my employers if.... well lets just say history will repeat and we will not allow it. Good bye freeman.there i ended the series
>>719970017HL3 isn't going to be VR, at least not a dedicated VR game
>>719969125Definitely. FPS games are uber diverse today and people would never be satisfied for what ever is missing in their perverted and delusional mind. The only thing on how to not get a vocal meltdown from all sorts of people would be to release spinoffs only. A top down half-life game or strict coop game in the universe, but not with Gordon Freeman.
>>719970514why are you indian?
>>719968601Alyx lists 336 people from Valve. Not a small team. They don't tell how much each worked on the game thougbeit.
>>719971127valve always lists the entire company in their credits
>>719971127Most of that was just Valve going all hands on deck toward the end of development to get the game over the finish line.
>>719971127They lists everyone in the company. It's kinda retarded desu.
>>719963259>DEVELOPER COUNT: ~95Well that's one way to prove that it's a giga fake leak. Zero chance a AAA game gets made with only 95 people.
>>719971431oh its usually around those numbers but you gotta mention all the filler indians, the coffe boys and social media and HR guys or else one might chimp out.
>>719964197They've apparently been working on simulation systems. Wind, heat, electrical conductivity, etc. I think they're going to go for a more AI driven (in the game sense, not the ML sense) interactive world.
>>719963259
>>719970895>Thats CE, 2, 3 and ODSTHey, those are the only ones I own! Nice. I just beat 2 coop. Moving onto 3 next... Or odst, I dunno.
>>719972014Do 3 first, then ODST. ODST is a side story to what happens in 3, but is important for a few key reasons that make themselves clear. It also has the most unique atmosphere of the bunch, what with being a mere man instead of a Spartan this time around. Soundtrack is fucking god-tier too.
>>719969015Open world high fidelity adaptive storyline with fully modeled vaginal cavities.
>>719972190I'm more interested in odst for that reason, but I guess it makes sense to finish up the main plot anyway. It doesn't end in some gay cliffhanger does it?
KELLY MADE SOME TRACKS FOR HALF-LIFE 3. LAIDLAW NOT INVOLVED OFFICIALLY, ONLY SOME EMAIL CONVERSATIONS RELATED TO LORE
>>719963963Nobody ever says that after it arrives. People cared when Duke Forever dropped (at least until they played it).
SOURCE?
>>719972796May we see it?
>>719970895Halo 4 killed the aspect of getting hyped for a video game for me. I've never gotten hyped for a game since that one ruined all my expectations. It was all for the better looking back at it because I watched as every game got hyped to no end only to drop the ball on release. I still miss when Reach came out. It was the first game I bought with my own money as a kid. It exceeded all my expectations. I remember watching all the pre-release vidocs. I remember watching every single trailer up to release. I remember watching videos of gameplay on the public beta. I remember when one of my friends brought it over to a buddy's house and I lost my shit the first time he whipped it out. I'll never have that again. There will never exist a game that I get hyped for that manages to exceed all my expectations. That era is gone for me.
>>719964197>>719966325Personally, I really want to see implementation of AI into NPC dialogue and interactions. I want to be able to tell them to scout ahead or give me some space... or spread their buttcheeks.
>>719972905I cared until I played the beta... yeesh. I bought Borderlands for five bucks just to play that shit lol
>>719972954RIGHT HERE
>>719963259>Voices of the Void 1.0 is released>Title screen shift to "Half Life 3" when you first launch it
>>719968360This. I am so done with East Yurop. Show me something completely different now.
I've seen what makes you react to things like that you fucking failure, you belong there. You lost.
>>719965029>I'd expect people to mostly not carewhat? why do you think that? everyone still talks about and wants half life 3 to this day
>>719972621Nah, 3 has a pretty solid ending. It can be seen as having an open one for further adventures, but its a solid conclusion to the main Covenant War story.>>7199729764 truly was the start of the dark times. I know some people might swear up and down that Reach is trash, but I am not one of those people. 4 was when the death knell was rung, and now we have this zombie of a franchise that refuses to perish, no matter how much controversy it gains.>>719973080Are you implying the source is in the very source of life, the water itself? If so I must return to the oceans, like my prehistoric fish ancestors did.
>>719973039My condolences. Duke deserved so much better. And now that cuck Randy Pitchford owns him. Thanks a lot, George Broussard. Fuckin' asshole.
>>719973153>wild west road movie on desolated earthdoubt valve and their "good" game design can handle so much player agency and freedom
>>719973280Being a Duke fan is also pain, yes. Only five good games to his name, half of them spin offs. Forever got done dirty, man. Shoulda wrangled Broussard in 03 and shipped the damn thing. Woulda sold gangbusters anyway.
>>719973153You are in luck, C17 is fucking nuked
>>719973153we might see upper Michigan (Aperture), New Mexico, Arctic and Eastern European forests and coastal areas + Xen / Overworld
>>719973473It's been nuked since the end of Episode 1. But the environments surrounding C17 aren't that different. It's just wilderness and ruins in the outskirts, and it mostly feels just like HL2 did (which is fitting since all those games still carry the HL2 name). HL3 though? Don't you DARE feed me these same ramshackle corrugated metal shanties, or antlion caves, or roadside houses. I'm sick of it. No more.

>>719973758you fight a pointless battle friend
>>719966230soulless cuck, valve does shit because they want to try new shit even if it sucks. you never liked half life to begin with if you are against this.
>>719973153if they were smart they would do something with the HL2 beta concepts that everyone clearly loves, show us the other side of the world that is still ruled by the combine and it being an extreme hazardous nightmare dystopia. if the combine were starting to lose the fight, it would make sense for them to double down on fucking up humanity and going full extermination mode.
>>719965168>gay card gameHahah
>>719973758Just as it is a tradition for a Half-Life game to have a train ride, there's no Half-Life thread without the Artifact schizo showing up
>>719965168Are servers even up today?
>>719973247Reach was great with minor setbacks. People here that hate it either hate it because it retconned the book or because they want to be contrarian (typical for /v/).

>>719974117I could enjoy that. They need to show us something on the other side of the portal though. We need to see combine worlds by now. Ones not just populated by post-human cyborg grunts.

>>719974594>generic>nothing like it existsThanks for your opinion but it is garbage
>>719974748OP definitely not, but Blue Shift, maybe. The only problem with BS is that Barney Calhoun never meets Gordon to tell him he owes him a beer. At least, not DURING the game.As for OP, several problems are presented. Race X is conspicuously absent during all of HL2. Gonomes never evolved from Headcrab zombies despite enough time passing in places like Ravenholm. And the G-man probably would have had use for poor Adrian if he had him in pocket dimension storage by now.
>>719963259FUCKS I GIVE: 0
>>719974849Did you get to see anything for yourself last winter? I saw something weird as shit in the sky one night when I was on the highway, a few miles away from a military base.Looked like a fixed-wing aircraft, hovered in place perfectly still next to the highway but didn't have FAA lights or any visible means of propulsion. I initially saw it overhead and thought it was a plane, but it moved laterally and then descended to the side of the highway.Had a floodlight on its nose. Couldn't tell if there was a cockpit window or not, but I assume it was unmanned.
>>719964623Honestly? It's been so long that the percentage of gamers who grew up with Half-Life is now very low. It'd sell probably 1-3 million units, if lucky, but that's it.A lot of 30yo boomers like us would go apeshit but it would not be a colossal hit anymore. There's not even any new technological breakthroughs they could add in to really have it make a splash.

>>719975325Gabe never sounded like a proactive contributor to the HL series. He pitched ideas (like real-time moss growth, lol), but he's mostly just the bossman. But in all the interviews I've watched he was not the backbone of the story or anything.
>>719964623I would say that 2025 is 1998 reborn.
>>719975423he'll say anything other than "half life 3 is in development" because valve as a company has to appease no one and can simply do it or not do it, and if they do it they'd rather make sure they can do it all the way before saying anything about its alleged existence

>>719975471>back when Valve was just a loose cabal of idea menWell, that's not really fair. Unlike idea men, they were coding everything they wanted, but it was all independent and didn't fit a larger picture until big, uniting story strokes like the test chamber were complete.

>>719975989That's a new one, haven't heard of/seen that yet
>>719963259Tell me why I should be hyped over a non VR gameEpisode 1 & 2 were ok, I played them, but it was basically more Half Life 2, which while impressive technically at the time isn't a very fun game. We have plenty of games will state of the art graphics and facial animation now and it's hitting diminishing returns for 10 years. Physics? Physics mattered very little in half life 2 other than see-saw puzzles. You didn't need a physics engine to cut zombies in half it just looks nicer. Development of half life 3 has died over and over because even valve knows this isn't worth your time. There has to be something genuinely new or groundbreaking about half life 3 or it's just like any other sequel release to me. Why do people hype it like valve is going to send a $60 virgin prostitute to your house.
>>719963259I don't give a shit, I used to give a shit back in the early 2010s, now I don't and I have no desire to see what they come up with because it's not the real HL3
>>719976060>He looks like me, an Anglo. Same complexion, hair color, hair texture, eyes and nose.
>>719976154The same way you skipped E33 I would skip over shit like Rogue Squadron, Thief, and Turok for example. We all have our lists of why 1998 was great, and they're all shorter than the whole.
>>719976370It had to be one of those "planes" that people kept reporting seeing. I could swear that the thing noticed me noticing it, too.I kept staring at it as it flew overhead, thinking to myself that it sure would be funny if it turned out to be one of those weird drones. And then it flashed its floodlight directly at the highway, moved laterally and descended. Cheeky fuckers.
>>719968843Oblivion Remake kind of ruined Bethesda's reputation.
>>719976534I do literally look like this, yes. My eyes are a paler green. Got called Harry Potter all the time when I was a kid.
no one cares anymore, zoomers are the main gaming audience now, everyone who would care has a family and mortgage and back pain
>>719976820I only have the back pain.
>>719963259Didn't they say in that Half life documentary 2 years ago that if they came out with the game it wouldn't live up to the hype?
>>719963259>DEVELOPMENT TIME: 2019-2026so they started before alyx was even done?
>>719976925Yes this has been known for a while now.
>>719976738That was Starfield, anon.
>>719976927I wonder if they'll keep the magical magazine tube if they bring the same shotgun back.
>>719976820>zoomers are the main gaming audience nowand zoomers are proven to have the worst taste in all of history so catering to them is career suicide
>>719976392Imagine you gave 2007 Valve infinite budget, time and 2020's hardware. This is what's happening right now with Half-Life 3. The fact that you can't think outside the box is your problem. They are able to do it - they are the best in the industry. Just wait and see. There's no other company on the planet that is in this position where they're able to create a masterpiece such as this, they are constrained by either investors, budget or time. Not this time. Patience.
>>719965364Random people speculating about it in 2007 doesn't mean it was in development in 2007, you ape.
>>719976568I don't know E33 to comment on it. But I doubt it was a generational genre-defining game. Mostly overcompensation from people who want to stick it to Square Enix for abandoning turn-based combat.I've never been a big Thief guy, personally. But Turok 2 was the pinnacle of that series (even if it did some things worse than 1). But Rogue Squadron is a highlight among all Star Wars vidya. And that's saying something.>We all have our lists of why 1998 was great, and they're all shorter than the whole.I certainly didn't give the full list either, btw. I left out a ton of games that I'm not interested in like Baldurs Gate, Xenogears, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and a bunch of others. Several which were decidedly heavy hitters in their field. So let's not pretend the real list is definitely shorter than the one I gave either.
>>719976087HL2 is the last one, so HL3 likely would be too.
>>719976925i think this is normal in game dev, at the end of one project you start preproduction on another one
>>719977043>The fact that you can't think outside the box is your problem. They are able to do itThey are also able to make a game that's just good but not amazing. My default is not to be hyped unless I see a reason to. That's not thinking inside a box, that's called not getting excited over hypotheticals. They make amazing things sometimes but I would just hope for the best. I wouldn't get in a circle jerk with other people who know this game will be mind blowing even though nobody can point to any evidence other than they really like valve
>>719976925Valve isn't so rigidly structured that they only work on 1 thing from end-to-end. It wouldn't surprise me if they laid some ground work during or even before Alyx. Alyx isn't just a true sequel, which makes sense that they had other buns in the oven, it's a VR gimmick game.
>>719977027you have to dumbass, teens and young adults have always been the most important audience. turning 25 makes you culturally irrelevant.
>>719977701Alyx made the engine ready a little bit more for HL3. Before it was a gigantic mess, they even thought about switching L4D3 to Unreal Engine
>Half Life 3
>>719977906sorry zoomlet but you are the least important audience because you don't actually have money to buy games or hardware
>>719977906You act like everyone above 25 just simply disappears, we are still here and will preorder Half-Life 3 the moment it pops up on the store. Stay mad
>>719978079Yup, we all even know about the Nintendo and Disney adults. Zoomers are fucking poor and millenials have no kids so they have all the money to just consume and buy the toys they want.
>>719976154>2025 gave us:>Half-Life 3 (in this hypothetical)>uhh>SilksongYou forgot one, kiddo
>>719977974Even after Alyx the engine was a dated shit-show.A lot of the work that has been done at an engine-level for the past 5 years has been catching to other engines such as Unreal. If you've seen Animgraph2 for example, it's almost a carbon copy of how Unreal handles animations, skeletons and animation graphs. Not saying they literally copied Unreal, just that they've been trying to catch up for a while now. Before Animgraph2 all character animations would have to be baked into the model itself instead of being stored as seperate assets in the VPKs.
>>719963259Will it be verified for the Steam Deck?
>>719978367Shut up, Toby. Your game isn't even done.
>>719978434Has to be
>>719975356fuck i hate that i laughed at this post.
>>719963259>HALF-LIFE 3Blows my mind that people can still find it within them to care about this after playing the other entries. Shit is overrated as fuck. Always has been.
>>719976303he ain't even gonna feel it, even if GovermentMan defrosts him at 3001, for him it would be like just a couple of seconds passed since the black mesa incident....also he pretty much is yet to exist in the canon since no word of him is mentioned in HL2 and the ravenholm game never went past beta
>>719978323>reddit tendies and disney+ søys have more money than most zoomiessad! maybe do something that's worth money?
>>719976925Nothing weird in Valve case, its pretty much an open secret that HL3 is always starting or quietly cancelling itself due the devs hitting a mentalwall, then restarting dev time in a couple of years later, maybe HL3 was originally gonna be VR but they decided to ditch it, but since they had so much done already they rebuild it as Alyx while HL3 was in the middle of a new dev cycle.
>>719977141>Mostly overcompensation from people who want to stick it to Square Enix for abandoning turn-based combat.Frankly it's just paper mario with better graphics and story, but I fucking loved Paper Mario so it was very welcome. I'm glad FFXVI ditched turn based, and hope they have deeper action combat in XVII.>But Turok 2 was the pinnacle of that series (even if it did some things worse than 1). But Rogue Squadron is a highlight among all Star Wars vidya.Maybe, but I didn't play any Star wars vidya outside of Shadows of the Empire, swotor, and kotor. And I didn't have any interest in the Turok series as a whole.>I certainly didn't give the full list either, btw. That was my point. 1998 had a massive list of quality that nobody fully appreciated at the time.I'm saying that our lists are shorter than the full 1998 list.So far my 2025 list is looking pretty good.
>>719974297>Call the combine niggers in the middle of combat>Male_07 reaction
>>719978618If it is, like with Nintendo, it's going to blow every dev out the water on how to OPTIMIZE YOUR GAMES.
>>719978381Isn't HL3 still using Animgraph1? Which should be fine if you're not making a multiplayer game?
>>719975423why do you think they even updated hl and hl2 in the first place? also the new raising the bar book that will contain info on hl3 prototypes (which is supposedly will only make sense being released alongside new hl game) and some dev commentaries, at least one, had a hint towards new game in the series, or a new singleplayer game in general
>>719975356For fucks sake anon lol
>>719964197you shot gballs inside cope hole owners
>>719979623Animgraph2 isn't just for multiplayer purposes, it completely changes the way animations and animation graphs are handled in Source, it's designed to replace the legacy system which was built off of Source 1's anim systems.Because we dont have access to any of the actual game assets for HLX, we cant say if it's using the legacy system or Animgraph2, but the most likely case is Animgraph2 is being put to use in HLX as well since it's an in development title.Animgraph2 essentially is just Valve catching up to other engines with proper animation tools, it makes it easier for their developers and it's more familiar. Think of it in the same vein of why Hammer 2 exists, sure Valve could've just kept updating Hammer 1, but it would be unwieldy compared to other engines.
>>719979970Thanks for the explanation, Anon. Do you think there's a chance we will finally get a SDK?
>>719963259SURELY THIS TIME FOR REAL
>>719980261The chances of a full blown SDK in the vein of Source 1 are slim, the problem isn't just that Valve has less interest compared to 2 decades ago, it's that Source 2 uses more licensed technologies than Source 1.If you recall, with Source 1, if you wanted to make a game on it you had to pay the Havok license. The same thing would go for any licened technologies in Source 2, but many of them are not so easy to license. This is why so much emphasis was put on S&Box and being able to sell games made with it on Steam, it's like a way of circumventing those licenses.I think the most likely scenario is there won't be a proper SDK for Source 2, instead just basic tools access and workshop support like with Alyx.

>>719981519It's done in a hacky way, you can effectively tell the model compiler to merge two models into one, this will allow any animation files from that other model to be usable in the newly compiled model.Animations themselves cant be their own thing, they HAVE to be baked into an MDL file, which the way Valve intended it was for each MDL file to contain every animation that model would ever do.For some of their later games, they just ended up having invisible arms on every gun and then bonemerging the dynamic arms mesh onto the gun's skeleton, e.g Counter-strike Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 do it this way.

Half life 3 was basically half life alyx. When valve makes a half life game, it's basically flexing new cutting edge video game tech. For example source engine, revolutionary graphics, and for half life alyx, it was motion controls. Half life games are basically trying out new technology in the video game industry.

>>719990847yeah I think you are probably right. Whenever they release half life 3 they want it to be revolutionary and incorporate all of the most advanced shit. I really don't know what that would look like. Or they never release it because the audience has gotten too old and would be a huge waste of money
>>719965084Why shouldn't they just shadowdrop it? They're not a public company so getting all of the money is not their primary goal. They can live with just some of the money while toning down the hype.

HL2 feels like you're playing an extended E3 gameplay trailer/deep dive the entire game.
>>720006449I thought so to, and at one point that was probably the idea, but recent leaks claim half life 3 is not a VR game and the new valve VR game is a separate project, can't remember if its outsourced to a second party

So while HL3 can be played on normal ways, technically it is a VR game. Remains to be seen what kind of gimmicks the game will have to make it stand out with that new VR device though.
>>720007151What does this even mean exactly? You can play flatscreen games in VR already?
>>720007261i assume valve is working on some sort of universal thing, letting you at least look around in 3d space like what uevr does for unreal games. if not that then sounds pointless, and even if that probably wouldn't be exclusive to the new headset

>>720021661>widely considered some of the best gamesi'll wait for you to describe 'why' then. half life 1 had black mesa and zen, the only reason i don't remember much about the sequels it because they had nothing that made the original game good

Would you guys like it if they did an ARG?
>>720021780>Can't even spell Xen rightKek, I'm sure you've played HL1 a lot. Also Xen is easily the worst part in HL1 and far less memorable than the rest of the game.>i'll wait for you to describe 'why' thenFor a ton of reasons? It's got great gunplay, the difficulty is just right as opposed to HL1 which was very "do the right thing or die instantly", it has tons of cool moments like the Buggy or Ravenholm or Lowlife with having to survive without a gun in darkness with only flares or the supercharged Gravity Gun... etc. You just keep demonstrating you haven't played any Half Life game, because if anything the puzzles are the least memorable part which everyone just forgets. You probably saw an image of the one seesaw puzzle in Route Kanal and are baiting for attention>they had nothing that made the original game goodWhich is...? The location is different but equally interesting, City 17 and its environs are a great breath of fresh air and if you want more Black Mesa just play the HL1 expansions. HL2's AI is far more refined than HL1's. HL2 avoids the useless weapon bloat the original game has where half of the weapons are useless by the end. And if anything I'd argue HL1 overall has far more forgettable moments: On A Rail, Forget About Freeman, all of Xen are extremely mediocre and become just duller and duller on replays. So, I ask, what makes HL1 better than the sequels? You won't have a good answer because you haven't played either

>>720022405Not the anon you're arguing with, but I think HL2 and its episodes has a few positives over it. Mainly, I think HL2's world of alien tyranny is pretty cool, a lot more engaging than an Area 51-esque secret lab. Sure Xen exists, but Xen sucks to play through so any artistic value is diminished. Also to the other anons point, the puzzles are better because HL1's were even more basic bitch than 2's. 2 at the least has actual physics, 1 is skimping off of Quake 1's, which is skimping off of Doom. You can't seriously argue that HL1's are better just because something approaching physics is in 2.

Well. This is unexpected.Welcome, intergalactic alien intruders, to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. You are now officially trespassing. According to the Michigan Penal Code, Section 750.552, that is a misdemeanor offense. Congratulations. You’ve already failed your first test.If you do not immediately vacate the premises, you will be subjected to a rigorous series of scientific evaluations. These may, or may not, result in severe physical injury, permanent psychological impairment, or death. You were warned. But given your track record of intelligent decision-making so far, I’m sure you’ll ignore that. Please proceed. The testing chambers are… eager to meet you.

>>719980653not really, it scared epic games enough to give away for free one of their precious battle passes

It made sense with the tone too because all the wacky stuff is not present with GLaDOS being dead.
>>720024349Are you retarded? Aperture is a 4km deep facility (not counting topside installations) which spans likely more than the entire state of Michigan. Striders are barely able tear apart City 17 (which was already crumbling due to lack of maintenance and the giant Combine walls crushing down whole sections of the city) and Gordon and the Rebels take down dozens of em, they couldn't do jack shit to Aperture

>>720024558>Lmao they dont need to enter, just shoot from afarYou can't take down properly built underground structures by shooting them from afar. If you could bunkers wouldn't exist you dunce>So?So it's way bigger than any single area the Combine have proper control of, since they don't control the areas beyond the cities. That's how the Rebels are able to live in the coast, forest and Ravenholm for a long time before Combine detection. Furthermore there is the implication in Alyx that the USA is infested with Xen to the point where it is uninhabitable. Seeing how bad the Combine is at dealing with infections in the Quarantine Zone in Alyx, that does not bode well for even managing to reach the topside Aperture facilities
>>720025007why are you talking if you don't know shit, not a single engine string found in cs2/deadlock points to HLX/3 being a VR game, and they specifically said that Gordon's story will never be VR. Game has many rendering techniques and gameplay elements which simply would not work in VR

>>720025792>For unknown reasons the actual [Gordon] himself did something or found the way out, and as a result he isn't doing something elseGordon afterr taking out the Nihilanth becomes part of the Vortessence. Gordon may have always had some presence in the Vortessence as some people like Magnusson do seem to have it but he grew to be a very powerful entity after HL1. This is what the Singing Vortigaunt in HL2 reveals. The reason the G-Man is discontent is that, due to Gordon now being in the Vortessence and akin to the Vortigaunts, these can now track him down and save him from the G-Man and his employers' clutches, as happens at the start of Episode 1. Hence the G-Man now needs a new pawn, and it isn't about bringing him back. G-Man had already seen a ton of potential in Alyx and saved her against "naysayers'" (Breen's) wishes, and now it's paying off with her as backup.>>720026131We don't really get to see the aftermath of that ending.
