>start playing this
>currently going through fall
>made a big field of rice because everyone says "build more than you think you'll need"
>currently have almost 2k rice and have the whole field to collect
>just planted a field of corn
>meat is less steady but have like 600 meat
>hunt turkeys and other ez animals from time to time
>have 6 fellas, a retarded monkey and a tamed warg
>also 3 muffalos and a rooster
I feel like winter is going to rape me
I'm trying to figure how to optimize meat scavenging
should I just RAPE the entire map of animals until I manage to acquire a chicken?
also what's the best way to feed my animals? I'm making them kibble but they eat through it too fast
made a hay field but it takes aeons to grow

what does this have to do with silksong?

raid is going to fuck you up

Just wait for trader come with chicken or rng event
Kibble is the best option during winter. In any other seasons, just let them eat grass themselve.

what do you mean?
I was trying to keep a nice stash of food just for winter

just hunt everything on the map, especially predators. New animals will migrate in as long as the map isn't full
You probably won't starve in the winter, there'll always be a few things to hunt and you can buy stuff from traiders or even resort to cannibalism in the worst case

>farm animals
If you want to be autistic about feeding animals, cook them simple meals or even cheese the nutrient paste dispenser
by cooking them, you can even produce farms that are 100% self sufficient and break the laws of physics for some animals
For you specifically, it looks like the huge amount of extra work (planting, cooking) is not worth it the 5 mood boost of fine meals, just butcher the animals

Raid difficulty is determined by your total wealth. Too much food and not enough defense will destroy you, but this is a pro player strategy and a meme, so you don't need to worry about it that much.
>>
>wealth management
One of the biggest warts of the game, Tynan even tried to cover it up because it's so anti-fun once you know about it
Raids scale directly with wealth, meaning if you want to play optimally, you have to own as little as possible, and every you own must be useful for combat somehow
Personally, I think people are retarded for optimizing it, just aggressively tune the difficulty to your liking. I see now difference in burning excess wealth or just lowering the difficulty, but one of these is decidedly not fun.
Or just disable wealth scaling completely.
Another easily cheesable difficulty factor is time since the last pawn got downed. So playing optimally means regularly beating up/ sacrificing some useless pawn

My rimworld games these days are like paulty raids, increase diff, stupid large sized raids, get to year 2-3, no more raids, no more terrible things happening, super sentry guns are only good for mad animal attacks.
I dunno what's going on. The whole event and pawn system needs a deep overhaul to fix the game, along with some (several) long term story driven events. Maybe ten years from now i'll get to play that game.
