Did you know that the first Uncharted game was designed by Yasuhara Hirokazu, lead designer of the original Sonic games? He worked with Naughty Dog all throughout the 00's.

Uncharted 1 is by far the best in the series. The only people who dislike it are normalfags that enjoy Snoy movie "games" that play themselves which was innovated by Uncharted 2.
Uncharted 1, in comparison, is an actual game and not just a scripted cinematic simulator like the rest of the series; there are barely any cutscenes in it and it has some decent gunplay. I also really like the vibe and the setting of the old abandoned Spaniard town in the Caribbean’s.

Really now? I did not know that. It was also the only Uncharted game I enjoyed enough to finish.
Having looked it up, credit is also due to Richard Lemarchand, a former senior designer at Crystal Dynamics and co-lead of the first three Uncharted games. He worked on Gex, Pandemonium! and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Yeah. The original Uncharted game is basically where a lot of these old platformer devs experimented with the new gaming capabilities opened by the 7th gen.

I really liked it as a PS3 game. The crumbing bridge segment right at the beginning was amazing for the time period. The mocap enemies were also. It was defeated by the starting pistol being super OP and the end game was really lame. But everything before that was legit very good. I don't know if it stands up to the test of time, because I just don't care to replay it. But I do know that I liked it a lot better than the 10 years of movie game bullshit that came after.

I like its vibe the most, but I'm biased because I've always adored the "Spanish pirates" setting and U1 fits that moreso than U4 even. There's many parts of it where you can tell they still sort of had that PS2 platformer mentality, my go-to example is always that one climbing section in the jungle where you must jump from one pillar to the next across an area, and the camera angle, the awkward jumps, you wouldn't see it in any of the sequels but there's plenty of sections in U1 like it. Also its locations are a bit schizo, how you go from a jungle mainland to an island to a fortress to a sunken city to a jungle inland to a sunken city but now with a bike to a mini-citadel to undeground to a larger citadel... it's hard to explain but it repeats beats more than its sequels, which personally makes it feel like the setting is less window dressing and more cohesive, areas you revisit time and again even if from different angles. I definitely feel it's an underrated game as far as "Naughty Dog movie games" are concerned. Then again I also like 3 more than I do 2, and I think 4 is godawful.

I last played it back in 2016 or so, and it already felt charmingly aged, much to my surprise. It felt more like a PS2 game than what we later came to associate with the PS3.
Drake kills so many guys in that game! So many fat, shirtless guys in overalls with shotguns, dead by my hands...

>It felt more like a PS2 game
That's an improvement

You made this thread already. And it baited me into playing Uncharted 1. It was shit.

dumb zoomers shouldn't be allowed to play anything before 2010

I always liked 1 the most out of all the games. The horror atmosphere that's prevalent over the whole game was really interesting and the transformed sailors were the best monsters the series ever had. 2 and 3 definitely had better setpieces and gameplay, especially the multi-player, but I've always had a real soft spot for the first game. 4 is a complete pile of shit from a narrative perspective even if the gameplay is solid.

I never hear anyone talk about the first Uncharted, good or bad, on the net or IRL. Not until the second game was anounced, and then suddenly the net was conspicuously filled with people going "omg remember le heckin Uncharted?? my fav game of all time, it was so EPIC".
Makes you think.

You could make the same argument with assassin’s creed 1. I feel like modern hitman is what it could have evolved into if they didnt take the linear movie route
>>719991218
I remember people seeing it as a flawed gem of sorts

Uncharted 2 was leagues above it, retard...

I remember he also left Sega to work on Jak 2, which Iizuka (current Sonic Team leader) ended up playing and took concepts from for Shadow's game.
Obviously, the quality of execution varied a bit.
