They want money and they can only get that if you produce the product they want and only that. It's the same shit as in vidya: companies aren't interested in solutions if they won't create money and will actively stifle anything they perceive as detrimental to that goal. I like the free-form aspect of research in the same way a lot of early 3D game devs in the 90s or the guys at ATT/Bell Labs did. I don't want to go to all these gay ass meetings to say effectively nothing and do even less just to appease shareholders.
