I see anons misuse the term "asset flip" a lot. Buying and using a few assets in your game does not mean you are "flipping" the assets, nor that your game is an "asset flip". Asset flipping, much like house flipping, refers to buying and reselling assets with minimal extra work. In the case of a house that would be some basic interior decoration, painting and plastering etc; in games it means throwing a few purchased assets together into a low-effort game template and selling that. You have a quick turnaround and can even make multiple reskinned shovelware games with the same assets.

it's more like a suburbia. rows and rows of houses, all identical looking. you're trading individuality and uniqueness for cheaper production. if you like that, bully for you, but when it comes to a product like video games, where the novelty of the experience is usually the prevailing reason to buy a game, you'd want it to feel more unique, making it worth the asking price. if every game started using the exact same, default animations, consumers would quickly begin to notice. as a dev myself, I spotted them almost seconds into the tutorial section of the game. notably, the floaty, slippery running animation is a dead giveaway that a dev is using unreal and hasn't spent time crafting their own animation or traversal system, they're just using unreal's stock settings. lots of "AA" games are doing this nowadays and people are definitely noticing, because these games usually fail. A recent-ish example is Flintlocke. Nearly identical walk/run settings, same slip n slide sensation as you turn while running. it's all a fucking joke, talentless devs who have no passion or care for the game they make, just trying to get something made quickly and cheaply.
