They abandoned the urban punk aesthetic and themes early on because they were afraid of offending racists and ultra-conformists. Now the cops are always the good guys, Phaethon feels the need to apologize to everyone for being a hacker because it's against the laws of our glorious nation, every single character has to be a purely good and always perfectly friendly waifu, and even the evil megacorp has to have ultimately good but misguided people in it. I'm still addicted to the rush of the early days that everyone else hated for some reason though, so there's no hope for me.
