Gotta admit, Kratos reminds me of my dad a fair bit. For the majority of his life, he was known as a no-nonsense asshole, a frat boy with a degree who got into tech, a guy who threw a harasser out the window. The angry bald guy, with a big ol skull tattoo, the nerd with an axe to grind. But for my siblings and step siblings? He was the best dad. The dad who played swords with us, who taught us DND, the dad who made peace with his parents so they could see us, and the dad who let my siblings and I go, so we could be happier and free living with our mum, when our mental health issues were too much, and we needed help closer to doctors. He still sees us once a week, and he’s always supported us. My brother’s interests, my art, my sister’s grad path. He’s the best dad, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I get /v/ likes to tryhard about the original god of war being easy and whatnot, but the game was a huge passion project from everyone involved and it shows. The game ran with no loading screens, tight, easy to pick up harder to master combat, tons of unlockable shit, secrets, the whole nine. The first three games on ps2/3 are phenomenal. They nailed the brutality, aesthetics, lore and gameplay. You guys didn't know how good you had it. Now enjoy onions of war forever.

God of War started sucking ass after the first one in 2005. It's supposed to be a modern Greek tragedy, complete with the hero suffering a tragic flaw like the heroes of old. The issue is that these types of heroes do not mesh well with our modern European Christian lens, and Kratos was turned from a complex hero grappling with his past and trying in vain to correct it into a roid-raging dunderhead who's defined by his rage before the devs course corrected so hard that they accidentally chopped Kratos's balls off and made him weak.
Nu god of war is like running around in a silly constricted crash bandicoot level with platforms and sparkly magic effects and symbols and random zelda-like hookshot emblems on walls for your items that feels gamey as fuck while having a super-zoomed in serious over-the-shoulder camera and narrative-style coupled with a glacial walking pace trying to be the last of us that is randomly interrupted by a scripted event where Kratos suddenly flies through the level, smashing everything aside and being a superhero where previously he couldn't crossa a 5ft gap.
