2 just feels unfinished. The levels, the weapon selection, and especially the story all feel like they were rushed to completion and failed to stick the landing. The cutscenes with their short length and awkward cuts feel like beta footage.
Rift Apart and PS4 at least feel like complete games.

the first game is really honestly trash, in terms of gameplay mechanics, absolutely horrendous - I don't care how much you prefer the writing and characters and story, Ratchet and Clank 1 is absolutely godawful to play and to this day I have only ever completed it once

2 is an unfinished, unpolished game whose quality drops off a cliff in the late game when the game starts throwing infinity bullet sponges at you and this is most obvious in the yeti planet being a pain in the ass but also happens in the other two final planets, meanwhile the endboss is a joke if you have any half-decent weapons. the fucking level leading up to the endboss is considerably harder.
3 is also bad because resources were wasted developing multiplayershit

3's only problem is the fucked up level scaling
Ratchet starts with 4 HP, and every enemy starts out doing 1 damage, so you have 4 hits before dying
Every time Ratchet levels up he gains HP, so he goes from 4 hp to 5 hp
except now enemy damage has scaled up a point to 2 damage, so now, despite having leveled up, Ratchet now has LESS real health - he can only take three hits before dying
and this arms race continues until you're max level at 100 HP, at which point all enemies deal 25 damage - meaning you had to level up nearly 100 times just to get back to where you were at the beginning of the game: 4 hits til you die.
None of the other RC games were that artdif.

What? Not only is every single weapon good but they're also extremely creative in their utility and gameplay, which is really the best you can ask for 6 games deep

What? Is this really something people missed? I know they put it in every RaC game after ACiT but it always felt like an arbitrary system to me, why not just get the upgrades from, you know, the actual weapon upgrades?

I never got this complaint.
The only game that ever benefitted from good enemy variety was RaC 1, 2 had a bunch of enemies sure but they were mostly really simple or badly designed.
The moment the series started honing in on different enemy types that show up through the whole game their design started getting way better - and it's not like this is some sin of the PS3 games, UYA and Deadlocked are designed like this too.

Considering how much momentum and wind up there is to the movement with the hover boots I don't think they would have been much use in the combat, I think it was the right call to focus on making them feel as good as possible for platforming considering Ratchet's default move set is already a compromise for the sake of the gunplay feeling good.
Later games like FFA and Nexus would make the hover boots more combat friendly and they just don't feel nearly as good to use.

Ratchet and Clank's main problem is the weapon progression. For some inane reason Insomniac is stuck on the exact same weapon progression every single game. (pistol, shotgun, bomb, etc.). MIX IT THE FUCK UP YOU HACKS. ADD SOME UNIQUE WEAPONS. DONT TURN THE LAVA GUN INTO A FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT THROUGH A FORCED UPGRADE

I wish the PS3 games didn't use pre-rendered cutscenes it was really jarring seeing Ratchet loose his armor in every cutscene basically. CiT was especially bad because they treated the fucking customizable gun/bomb as the "default" weapon that always gets used in cutscenes, which was even dumber.

What even is this complaint?
First off in ToD there's 0 pre-rendered cutscenes with Ratchet outside the intro level and ending, which is what the PS2 games did too.
In ACiT they purposefully make his armor upgrades actual upgrades to the same base armor so that it can be "turned off" in cutscenes.
In A4O and FFA there's no armor upgrading at all.
ItN is basically the only time this is an "issue" but they even added an animation right before you enter a cutscene of Ratchet taking his armor off so who cares really.

As for the weapon in ACiT, he uses the bombs in one single cutscene - GC has more scenes of Ratchet using the Lancer than that.

You're absolutely right, the hover boots in A Crack in Time were tuned perfectly for traversal, and using them mid-combat would've just broken the pacing or made everything way too floaty. They had this deliberate rhythm where you'd switch between the hover boots and your arsenal depending on the scenario, and it actually elevated the design. Nexus trying to blend the two just made both feel worse. I'm glad they prioritized one over trying to half-ass both.
