When people say "the best game of all time", do they really mean "the best game for the time in which it was released"? Because mechanically even the later Zelda games blow OoT out of the water, but they aren't necessarily more impressive for their time. I think it's dumb to ever try to find the greatest game/film/book of all time, but you can put together a list of things that everyone should experience at least once before they die, and yeah, I'd put OoT on that list.

>>720249052 Mechanically, sure, they're smoother because tech has evolved. But OoT wasn't just mechanics, it was direction, pacing, atmosphere - stuff modern Zeldas often bloat or filter. BotW has better climbing, but it also has the soul of a Ubisoft checklist. OoT's simplicity is its strength.
