>people sell a game as a "tactics" and "strategy">is just stat bloat under the hood, no strategy, no tactics, just juke the AI and overpower it with numbers>PS follow the meta!
>wahhhh my favorite guy got killedIt's all your fault for being a shit commander anon. There is blood on your hands and you blame anything but yourself.
>>720362245>implyingJust takes right perks, there's no tactics
This is what, the third day in a row someone's been crying about Battle Brothers?
>>720362169Battle Brothers is a misery simulator. You will lose a lot of Soldiers, embrace it. I have atleast 3 fodder niggers with me at all times.
>>720362169>PS follow the meta!Yep and BB is particularly anal about this>early game spears are a must>you have to have X number of shield guys, X number of backline hitters, X number of archers, X number of bruisers, X number of shield breakers, have daggers to preserve enemy armor etc.
>>720365928>>you have to have X number of shield guys, X number of backline hitters, X number of archers, X number of bruisers, X number of shield breakers, have daggers to preserve enemy armor etc.Quite a few things here aren't meta so if you find success with them, then you're just proving the statement wrong.
Yeah, that's what really disappointed me as well about this game. It's conceptually cool, but it's an autistic number simulator.
>>720362169how are you metagaming in a singleplayer game
>spears in the front>pikes in the back>crossbows in the center covered by pikes to the sides and spears to the front>flank watch is heavy 2h hitters>stand still and wait for the enemy to come while you pelt them with crossbow boltsWhat else do you need?
>>720362169
>>720362169So is this a good game or not? I have the basegame, do i need the dlc for the full experience?
>>720367720DPS when some fatfuck armored Unhold crashes through your shieldwall and the 2h Not-Chaos Chosen manhandles your troops with their 2handers
>>720367828>goodEh...I feel like it isn't because I am the exact target audience for the game (love turn based games, love medieval warfare) but it just ...doesn't catch me, maybe it's because there's no story...but I fucking love XCOM and that's pretty much what this, idk how to word it.
>>720367986I like games with no story, sandboxes, where you make your own owth and set your own goals etc
>>720368075Also, did I really not mention the DLC? Lol, yeah you kind of need it
>>720367562There are like 100 perks but you can only pick 11 because otherwise your party deals no damage or gets oneshot.
https://www.nexusmods.com/battlebrothers/mods/765Does it fix it?
no matter how many times I tried playing this game I couldn't kill a single lindwurm/unholdi like going south to for kebab removing with the holy war scenario
I have so many hours in this game and I am decent enough not die to trash but I can never get to a point where I can comfortably clear end game orc camps - every barbarian camp feels like 1 chosen attack basically forces me retreat my bro to saftey lest he dies on the next hitAre you ever meant to be able to easily do those?I managed monolith once but had to save scum a bunch of time and I think I still had brothers dyingNever even tried the other legendary locations
I don't care how good or bad the gameplay is, I don't want to play with a bunch of heads on platters.
>>720369112I hate seeing this shit everytime the game is brought up, the art is absolutely serviceable.
>>720369238I don't get it. How is the art not absolutely great? All the armours, weapons and monsters look dope as fuck. Is it because there are not anime girls?
>>720368824Some enemies are really good at killing health and others are good at killing armour. You can also make a tank either a health tank or an armour tank deoending on whether you get Nimble or battleforfed. You have to rock paper scissors match the proper tank to enemies like chosen, then you don't die to them. Same with unholds you just tank them with 1 super good tank. Get your tank adjacent to the unhold and use shield wall AND indomitable and he can hold it still forever while people poke it from 2 tiles away
>Fuck up a build>day 60>can't do anythingIt really suffers from "follow a guide or don't play" difficulty. At day 60 I still can't beat necros and auxiliaries, if you look up guides they just tell you to use game mechanics in unintended ways to get better armor.
>>720370231Wrong on all accounts. The only truly broken "meta" in this game is the fact there's one absolutely broken "solved" build that turns even cheap bad stat farmers into end game material. The game is solved in the sense there's one objectivrly best build and you can make the game easy by having 12 mercs with that build and nothing else. That's the only "follow a guide to change the difficulty" part of this game, you don't have to use a single mechanic in an unintended way or do anything fancy to ger armour
>>720369875Woah woah, I love anime girls and love Battle Brothers art.
>>720370516Yes and content is balanced around it
>>720370516Your "build" is not going to save a shit stat farmer when a chosen bashes his head in
>>720370210I think always going for battle forged might be my problemwhat fights are you supposed to bring nimble guys for?
>>720362169Too expensive with all the DLC
>>720370954My guy will just not get hit by a chosen.Or I'll disarm the chosen first.Or he'll get hit in the head but has nine lives and will survive.Or I'll replace him with one of the 4 guys waiting to get leveled up to lvl11, two of them have "huge" trait to so they might be better.Or I'll just reload a save lmao
>>720368824The strategies for orc is no archers, or the least the have, pack everyone up so that they cannot be pushed, have high armor destroying per turn, have whips to disarm anyone with greataxes or flails. Kill a few, and look at them fleeing.I put one guy with a greataxe alone and he gets surrounded, I give him the immune to stun charm because he's important. If round swing once, kills a orc young, round swing again, kills nobody but did so much damage in his turn that he caused 75% of orcs warrior to flee (and die by fleeing from free hits).
>>720365928My meta is have only 3 guys for the first 50 days, amass tons of money, buy armor protection, then start hiring other guys. It's pretty though and some battles are make or break but at least you get to level 11 way faster instead of having 12 shit brothers who cannot be relied upon. Just accept the cargo and caravan mission, with the cavavan, let the NPC get mauled by the direwolves, attack later, with spears of course since you have like 60% chance to hit without them. Once one of your guy is level 11, you can use him to train your other guys to level 11 in 3 battles. Step one, get the trainee a training lesson of +33% exp for 3 battles, step 2, find an easiest battle, step 3 use your good brother with a 2her sword and multi-hit kill all the enemies, perhaps give some kills to the newbie with a spear but don't risk too much. This method can yield 1000-3000 exp to the newbie. It used to be next to impossible to level up someone to lvl11 with 200exp per battle, with this it changes everything.
>>720373904>for the first 50 daysHow the fuck do you deal with scaling
>>720368236I don't think doing what is good is metagaming
>>720374761If you have few brothers, it scales down, while you pay less for food, less for wages, less for repairs, get the same amount of payment for deliveries and less exp sharing, meaning more exp for each individual brothers.Don't believe me? Try it. Take the easiest start, Merchant, hire only one other guy as a backliner, try to make as much money as possible. You'll only fail if you get ambushed by vampires or if you're not cautious enough. Then just buy big sword and heavy armor then the hard part is over.
>>720362169>strategy>rpgPick one, and only one.I know which one I'll be picking.
the game is on saleis it good?
>>720375405yes it's good and very fun
>>720375482still too expensive though
>>720375405If you like grinding and gettting fucked by RNG then sure
>juke the AI and overpower it with numbersSounds like a sound strategy to me.
>>720364006stealth menace thread
>>720368357If I'm overhauling it Id rather play the Legends mod
A strategy game is a series of decisions. A GOOD strategy game is when all those decisions are interesting.>Impregnable mountain fortress or lucrative river camp?>Heavy on economy and light on defenses or heavy on defenses and light on economy?>Expand or turtle?>Land or naval?>Archers or cavalry?>Trade or conquer?>Vassalize or maintain direct control?>Quantity or quality? If one decision is correct in every situation, then it is not an interesting decision. If many decisions are uninteresting, then it is not a good strategy game.
>>720376293Name some good strategy gamesFire Emblem Engage
>>720376363Not him but unironically turn based strategy roguelikes have a high hit rate of well tuned interesting decisions to make. Currently I'm really liking Trials of Fire.
>>720375898I bought Battle Brothers but I am not buying their woke slop next game.
>>720376293How about you drop the guide and play the game to discover the better and then best decision yourself as if you were playing a game?
>>720376363Dominions 6: Rise of the Pantokrator. You need to be willing to engage in online multiplayer autism, however, which many strategy anons are allergic to
>>720362169>"tactical" rpg>peek in>just numbers and stats deciding the victorThat's like 90% of SRPGs
>>720378217Which is why people need to stop falling for bullshit non-strategy games and instead play better games.
>>720376363Warside.
>>720378310KekDid they ever unfuck it?!
>strategy game>it's just setpieces and doing things with a specific way in a specific order>no leeways, variations, or creativity involved
>>720378504
>>720379942Figured. What a shame. What really strikes me is that there is absolutely no advance wars clone that tries to copy days of ruin. They're all Scrimblo tier reddit humor.
i want it but it costs money, why is life so difficult
I am mad they are making a gay Sci fi sequel to this when they didn't even bother to finish battle brothers
>>720376293It's this weird thing I noticed that only challenging games have autists crying in this philosophical way about what is and isn't a good game mechanic. If a game just lets you win by mashing the attack button like a retard, then all the whiners are pacified.
>>720381241Well of course, just follow a guide and game becomes beatable, even easy. Didn't follow a guide? Unbeatable, fuck you, start over
>>720362169Play RTS
>>720377115>>720382024If it's a good game, there can be no guide because there is no best decision. The answer to the question "Which way is the best?" should always be "It's situational" requiring the player to analyze the information available to them, and also to consider the possibility of information not available to them.
>>720380752Battle Brothers is literally a finished game, and Menace looks really cool so far.
