I'm hella autistic and can't decide what to play in these games.

For some reason people recommend a Decker MC in Dragonfall specifically?
>>
>>720370096
Isn't there already an optional decker you can hire?
>>
>>720370096
Basically the Decker/Rigger follower is kind of a wuss and worse than the other followers
Also the game kinda pushes you to play decker as there are exclusive stuff that only your decker character can interact with
>>
>these humans dont think orcs and trolls are people
>we need to go punch them
Garbage games with shit writing Im not playing anti white propaganda which is 110% what they had in mind when they made that.
>>
>>720370096
I played a mage in dragonfall and I don't remember anything egregious that you can miss by not playing decker.
>>
This game gives you a lot of XP, which allows you to make sort of multiclassing.
My favorite is Shaman/Decker. High Charisma, spellcasting, Decking (which have LOTS of checks).
But you do you, anon.

it's not even that, i just hate the inherent disconnect when video games are just digitized tabletop games.
You have cases where you're standing right next to a guy and somehow miss a critical shot that gets you killed and you're forced to reload.
It's not fun, it's not engaging, it's just gambling.

i was hyped when this thing was announced. i started imagining all the cool mods and modules users would make with the toolkit. i was hoping for something close to or on the level of NWN's toolkit.

then it released. in the beginning, literally the only assets a user could add were character portraits. that's it. people had to figure out how to inject things like new weapons, cyberware, spells and tilesets. when i saw that, i knew the mod scene was DOA.

wtf were they thinking
>>
>>720373812
Hasn't really been true for decades now.
Anyway, Shadowrun was a TTG first, and the video game adaptions reflect this. Fans of it and TTGs love this aspect, which is fine.
I just think video game adaptions of TTGs are inherently bad, contradictory, and do a disservice to the video game medium.

you mean half of the game adaptations reflect this. the other half really, really don't.

this is a strange take. you mean because of the presence of RNG specifically or because you'd rather see new IPs?
>>

>>
>>720374027
>i started imagining all the cool mods and modules users would make
Yeah, they clearly ran out of budget for that. The preorder perks also didn't make any sense, considering the final form of the game.

I'm still hoping that they make another one, with a 3D engine this time, and proper mod tools. Maybe even (co-op) multiplayer.

>>720372003
>anti white propaganda
I you squint REALLY HARD, I bet everything looks like "anti white propaganda" to you people.

Racism is obviously a major theme of the games, but it's about the fantasy races, not different shades of humans.
>>
>>720374652
>I'm still hoping that they make another one
haven't they made 3 so far? if they haven't figured out
>hey, why are all these oldass games still getting so much attention? is it because moddability directly correlates to the interest and longevity of a game? nah.
i'm not sure they ever will.
>>
>>720374209
Larian love classical RPGs, that's why. There's plenty of RPGs that don't do dice role checks or have hard-dependencies on RNG.
>>720374349
>you mean because of the presence of RNG
heavy dependence on RNG / dice is a big factor, yes.
At a higher level, it's just a myopic type of video game that's arbitrarily limiting itself to the aspects of another medium, when it doesn't have to. While ignoring all the possibilities of being a more advanced medium.
>>
>>720370096
just play rifle elf if you have no clue about mechanics
>>
>>720370096
These games suck so much ass compared to the SNES and Sega games, even if they had that old jank to them. Hate how its now a mission based xcom clone.
>>
>>720370096
I wish they'd have made a sequel to the SNES Shadowrun
That's the only one I truly enjoyed, it nailed everything perfectly
>>
>>720374765
>if they haven't figured out
Like I said, it was probably a matter of budget (and engine). They could make the next game properly from the ground up.
>>
>>720374781
>There's plenty of RPGs that don't do dice role checks or have hard-dependencies on RNG.
there's plenty of non-RPGs that have hard-dependencies on RNG. random numbers have been what games are based around since at least 3000 BC.
>a myopic type of video game that's arbitrarily limiting itself to the aspects of another medium
i'm not sure you're saying much here. can you give an example of a game that has ascended beyond any previous form of prior media?
>>
>>720370096
would love to replay these but the code was written by jeets so saving and loading takes the insane amount of time the more you progress throught the game
>>
>>720374993
>probably a matter of budget

>hey, we don't really have the money to concentrate on a fully fleshed out campaign. should we just squeeze something out or concentrate on allowing users to create their own campaigns?
like i said, if they haven't figured it out by now...

there's a reason people are still playing NWN even though the main campaign is not great.
>>
>>720375081
>can you give an example of a game that has ascended beyond any previous form of prior media?
classical table top strategy -> RTS
In the realm of tabletop video games though, i just think some could do with realizing they're a video game and can do so much more.
Redefine what dice or checks are, mutate the checks as a mechanic, anything new
>>
>>720370096

dragonfall is the only game that made me feel really depressed after finishing it, I did a lot of bad stuff without realising it (not killing the dragon in the end, but small things like releasing deadly fumes on the city to clear a path or leaking dangerous files or making your companioin posessed by literal satan or setting a rogue ai free which then sent me gore of my friend). I felt like a fuck up despite beating the game. also berlin felt much more depressing than kowloon in hong kong which is hyped up as the worst place on earth in game but turns out to be a nothingburger

uh, how are those not arbitrarily limiting themselves to the aspects of another medium, tabletop wargaming? do yourself a favor, never look up what games Dungeons and Dragons were based on.

you realize you're just saying things with no idea of what they would actually look like or how it would function, right?

you mean what situational modifiers already do?
>>
>>720375462
Of course they needed to finish the campaign first and foremost. Everything after that is extra.

The gameplay itself is fundamentally different because you have autonomous units that create dynamics you don't directly spawn?

do not mutate the checks themselves, they mutate your variables.

>The gameplay itself is fundamentally different because you have autonomous units that create dynamics you don't directly spawn?
tabletop RPG vidya itself is fundamentally different because you have autonomous characters that create dynamics based on varying factors such as your position in the story, your playtime, your choices and their own programmed personalities that create dynamics you don't directly control?
>they mutate your variables.
so having your stats randomly change, at random times? there's been a ton of that too.

I agree, but it's Microsoft who actually owns the license, IIRC. So all they would need to do is to commission a new game, from some (other) studio.

But who knows that MS is even doing nowadays...
>>
>>720370096
I never liked any of the deckers the games bestowed on you so I usually ran it myself. A decker with a shotgun. It worked out for all three games. But I had the most fun doing a straight mage in later playthroughs.

Also Returns is the hardest one in my opinion because it rarely gives you free party members. Instead expecting you to take the small amount of money you have and split that up between hiring other shadowrunners or upgrades. I kind of missed that tension with spending my nyuen or whatever it's called in the later games cause they just give you a full team the whole time.

I think they mix perfectly well, creating something far more interesting than what the bland and boring Cyberpunk game's setting is.

However, I think that is also it's problem: the game is like a niche between the two very popular genres, and most hardcore players gravitate strictly in one direction only.

I remember playing the tabletop with some of the rl friends and at one point we were out of Seattle and ran into a blizzard and had to take shelter at an old seemingly abandoned home and ran into an old blind guy who said he would let us stay as long as we weren't a certain kind of person. Assuming he was a humanis we were like "shit, here we go" since we had a troll and an elf on the team and when we were ready to give him hell he interrupted us and was like like "one of my best friends is a troll, I just was making sure none you boys were niggers" and it was the most hilarious thing in the world with how the GM presented it since it was so off the wall on the kind of racism that's normally in the system that we actually ended up adding Klanman Chuck to our contact lists. >The gun does absolute SHIT damage and can only fire twice before reload
FUCK YOU!

All of these games would be better if you only controlled one character.

Illene Two Fists + Freya + Joshua(Decker) is GOAT. Joshua(Shaman) + Stark + Rianna is also pretty good too.

I said that based off of memory, but if I remember right, you enter combat mode, you take control of a cursor/reticle you have to move over to the enemy, while you're being shot and can't move.
It seemed like something that would be okay on a mouse, but was utterly retarded on a controller.

After trying each class I've settled on Shaman as my go-to. Shaman Josh really only has the Sorcery skill to worry about, so you can use the surplus karma on shit like Reputation and Negotiation to finance your deck upgrades more easily for Rianna. Also the Ork Armband is worth getting as soon as possible.

wtf is "Ettiquette"?
>>
>>720404783
fancy people manners
>>
>>720404783
Knowing how you're expected to act/speak in certain situations. In-game it gives you dialogue options.
>>
>>720404783
'Etiquette' is a certain way of speaking and acting, depending on who you're interacting with, but usually it's a term for polite or posh society, "the correct etiquette of eating with the correct cutlery"
In the case of Shadowrun it's the ways you speak when you're a Corpo or a Shadowrunner or an Academic, sounding like one of them and knowing what you're talking about makes it easier to fit in
If you're your group's Face or charisma guy, it's important to know a few different ones

You didn't miss anything. It sucked and had no story.

Rifles are effective at all ranges. Shotguns are not. SMGs don't do enough damage to make it thru most armour.
>>
>>720390021
If you're playing just Returns, invest in Shotgun, since the game gives you a shotgun that you need to use to progress because the alternative is pulling your own teeth out

I want to like this game but it's so fundamentally ugly in a way that I can't put my finger on

every single character is ugly. every map feels ugly. the music is drab. I don't know what kind of artstyle this game has but it's one that has consistently put me off from playing the games
>>
>>720370096
You can get a decker follower or hire one, Dragonball didn't really utilize Deckers much outside of one major mission though.

Go with a pure mage and you will wreck shit.

Are you me?
>Drop my robot buddies, then hack into the nearest terminal.
>Spend the rest of the fight downloading porn or something while my rock em sock em robots clean things up

>Include a whole bunch of women and niggers in your game
>Manage to make each and every one of them look cool
Old games just did things better. I really need to pay this game sometime.
