Meteos is the tightest shit ever, and if you love Sakurai's approach to designing games with tons of features and options and replayability you won't be let down. Goes right alongside Kirby Air Ride and Kid Icarus Uprising in that regard.

ngl even tho this post is a joke, seriously diving into an old Pokemon games postgame, breeding, battle frontier, social features and other side things can be kind of overlooked. Sometimes a novel experience is hiding in plain sight; felt that way when I started diving hardcore into Pokemon Emerald and finding all sorts of fucked up shit I could do with very obscure features, but this ain't the thread for that.
>>
>>720382998
The DS game is really bland. I'm a dye-hard Golden Sun fan and even I can't stomache it.

Diamond and pearls underground is basically its own game. You need a lot of friends to play it with which is probably hard now but was easy at the time. Idk if the remake ever matched the experience.

I can agree with that. Gen 3 in particular has a ton of hidden shit the average player wouldn't see, like how battle tower has an apprentice NPC who is a fan of yours. You basically choose their team for them through a serious of questions and eventually end up battling them there.

genuinely one of the better "downgrade ports" on the system, to the point that i'd argue it's better than mkds in some ways (even beyond just how impressive it is)
>a couple of reworked stages but otherwise all non-dlc content is present and accounted for
>extensive single-player with missions and stuff, doesn't have mkds's bosses but still some really novel concepts
>pretty much all music present but remade for the ds and has that really distinctive crunch to it
>drifting still has that weighted quality to it like outrun 2006 which just feels great
i'll admit part of it is nostalgia for me (first game i ever actually owned, we were pretty poor) but still genuinely impressive imo not to mention fun, worth a look at least even just as a curiosity
(also it's kind of just fun to see all the characters in a really low poly form imo)

why can't they just make an actual NGE game instead of otaku slop?
>>
>play an nds game i've never played before
>immediately feel like i got teleported back to 20 years ago
there's just something magical about the library of nds. all the design trends, screen resolution, even the sound chip feels oddly distinct. I also love how you can tell when a nds game came out judging by how they utilize the touch screen (later games use it purely for menu or smaller gameplay elements) and the mic (later games almost completely drop it)

it's really something special, almost like you can see the evolution as time goes on - but also, there's this unique feel to the graphics a lot of the time that i don't think anything else really captures, especially 3d games with the heavy pixelisation and the really low-poly models
honestly it's a huge shame that more of the dsiware stuff wasn't archived, that always felt like an underappreciated element of the library - the art style games especially have been a real treat to dive into
it's kinda sad to think we'll never get something similar given what happened to skip but these games (and some on the late gba & wiiware) were so novel and like just pure fun at times - picrel's been really fun to fuck around with

srw was what I was thinking of at first which is just like, I wouldn't consider that "real" you don't feel like you're playing the thing its like you're looking at a sprite and the game says it does something. You could just replace it with a whole other sprite and no one would notice.

My fucked up shit was forming a pickup squad of level high level Linoones and Meowths and hoarding almost 999 rare candies. I'd just chill with the game on hardware whenever I was bored and eventually got there. Every battle you complete has a 1/100 chance to trigger a daily event, and as a result I was getting them a ton. The vitamins going half-off in Slateport meant I'd max out on money from Pay Day from Meowth while hoarding pickup items, then be able to dump it all on vitamins. Items sell at half-off anyways so I ended up making an insanely fucked up bank as a result. Been breeding mons for the battle frontier and said vitamins have been super useful too. Lot of crazy shit you can come up with and it's very fun and rewarding, though I can only recommend it on a handheld so you can vibe with it. Doing this shit on PC sounds like a really empty feeling grind.
>>

>>720390227
One reason might be that most DS classics stayed on the DS, and the ones that didn't were completely changed to the point where the port may as well be a new game. At this point, a large chunk of classic games on most other older consoles have been rereleased or remade in some way. The DS is like a time capsule.

I think that applies to JRPGs in general, and most of the RPG genre. I'd rather combat that's too easy then combat that's a chore to get through.

>>720390352

If you like Sky Islands or steampunk aesthetics it still may be worth a look. Has some of the best art direction for levels I've seen in a game. You'd probably also like it if you enjoyed .Hack, since it shares a lot of elements due to being a game in the same genre from the same developer.

The general polish wasn’t quite there and you had to be an annoyingly high distance over a platform in order to land on it, but this game is the only Contra game I know of that has the openness that the first one has. I love Contra 3 and Hard Corp but the presentation is way more squeezed in compared to the first one. Contra 4 uses the top screen to open up the area and the grapple system is cool. It’s a shame that co op requires each DS to have a copy of the game.

Anyway ketsui, retro game challenge 2, Ozuna, phantast star 0, henry hatsworth, dark spire, Megaman ZX advent, Chrono twins, from the abyss

Me and other people who aren't triggered by such horrors like different sized screens.
>>
>>720433385
Does the screen have the stereo effect?
I doubt they bothered.
Man, that was one of the actually cool gimmicks.
Too bad they dropped it.
>>
>>720434097
I always liked the 3D. Especially senran kagura.
>>
>>720435326
>ketsui
huh? thats on here? never seen it before
>>
>>720435646
No, it doesn't, for sure. Even Nintendo dropped it with n2dsxl, I guess it was way too difficult and pricy to keep it around for 3 people who enjoyed it.
>>
>>720433760
If it has a stylus I may get it.
>>
>>720435785
It's a weird boss rush remix of the original. Worth checking out but very different to the arcade game.

This studio made some pretty decent racing games on the platform

>Race Driver: Create & Race and GRID
>Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli
>DIRT 2 (though it's impossible to complete)
>TrackMania DS and Turbo
>Need for Speed: Undercover and Nitro
>Hot Wheels: Track Attack
>Cars 2

I was gonna mention that game, it was originally supposed to be a Silent hIll game but the idea got rejected

They also made a sequel which was even better

The same studio also did a game called Moon which was a decent sci-fi FPS but it got quite repetitive
>>
>>720437803
lol you reminded me i played cod games in the ds.
>>
This game was really bizarre like all the other handheld versions of Sims 2, it's more of a hotel management game than a life sim though
Also if you decide to play it I recommend changing the date on system or an emulator because the game uses a real clock and some parts can get tedious
Do not try to go back in time though
>>
I played and pirated sooo many fucking DS games
god
is DS emulation even good or do I have to go out and get a DS
>>
There were 9 Spider-Man games on the DS and most of them sucked, but this and Web of Shadows were pretty fun Metroidvanias
>>
>>720438018
A phone is a decent option for touch screen based games, there have also been a few dual screen emulation handhelds released lately
>>
>>720438086
I heard that Alien game was a fun metroidvania too.
>>
This was a nice spin off with turn based combat similar to Advance Wars, they also made a sequel based on Age of Mythology

>>

was that the game were you couldnt put in a 3 letter name because it would break the game?
>>
>>720437950
The same studio, nSpace also made DS versions of multiple James Bond games, I enjoyed the Blood Stone one the most

Yes, they shipped that warning with the later copies.

You can use any $1 stylus with it. Not included, and no hole to stick it into tho.

>>
>>720438950
This was already mentioned, are there any other decent horror games on the DS besides the Resident Evil port?
I know about Nanashi no Game which only cameout in Japan

Meteos at least got ported to phones
>>

another L for tendies

Will this end up being cheaper than a 3DS? And how is 3DS emulation in this day and age? I've been wanting to get one for a long time but they're way too fucking expensive.
>>
>>720440338
It's 250 for a base version (black, 8G RAM, SD865), which is more than enough to run DS & 3DS games.
>how's emulation
It's alright, not 100%, but good enough.
You can check the compatibility list in their repo https://github.com/azahar-emu/compatibility-list?tab=readme-ov-file
>>
May as well ask for some underrated 3DS games since this platform is obviously ass.

Hotel dusk is already a hidden gem, but even many of those that played hotel dusk didn't even know about last window.

I consider that 95% of writing in videogames suck balls, but not this one, this feels like one of the few stories out there without shitty writing.

How would you compare it to 999? That's the only thing I need to know.
>>
>>720441273
Dunno because I've never played 999. But I really really likes hotel dusk and last window, it really feels like it can compare to a book or novel, unlike all of these anime visual novels or games that get constantly praised by 17 years old and you can see they have never ever read a book in their entire lives.

I really like hotel dusk, top 10 games for me, the fact that they want bankrupt while when get a 47th game of a shit saga shows this world is corrupt.
>>
>>720441380
What are your favorite novels (regular, text ones)? Will help me to put it in the perspective since you never played 999.

guess you cant playtest how retarded kids are going to be lol
a friend also scratched his screen with that pikachu racing game were you have to keep dragging pikachu in the direction where you want to run
>>
>>720441138
Shame that sequel didn't come out in North America

Is there a chane of remake or re-release ike with Another Code?
>>
>>720442268
>>find a rare mon
No such thing.
All the monsters re-appear in the same locations, there's no random chance in finding a "rare" pokemon or not.

I think you didn't play the game.

Not necessarily hidden, but Tony Hawk's American sk8land and Proving Ground are way better than they had any right being. Definitely not discussed as much as the rest of the series and overshadowed by the hot garbage it became
