What's the worst case of dishonest artificial difficulty you've seen?

There's literally a crest in the game that turns this kinda shit into ezmode for you baby faggots who are terrible at video games.

>>
do hold down or diagonal down when you hornet pogo
I feel like if I hold diagonal its inconsistent but if I hold down theres a chance of it reversing on me
>>
There is not a single thing worth finding in Hunter's March in the early game.
>>
>>720388431
It's down. If you're using a diagonal pogo, she goes in the direction she's facing. If you're trying to pogo right while facing left, you need to move right first so she turns around before attacking.

The entire game is artificial difficulty. I just reached Greymoor and I'm struggling to beat the crow arena on the east side.
Every death has me respawn LIGHTYEARS away from it and the runback is a fucking bore

The game isn't using clever design to make it difficult, it's just trying to tire you out at every turn. There is NOTHING justifying runbacks this long and boring.

This isn't even fucking hard.
Just fucking git gud.

Ffs, try HK first maybe and the path of pain, then we can talk. This shit was fun. I felt like a better gamer conquering this.
Unlike the runback to Judge (not the boss itself which is amazing) or the rising lava area with flying enemies that are pure rng at times. That can fuck off. Even runners of this game are fucking asking why about the Judge runback. It makes no sense because it just becomes tedium after a while when you're good enough to avoid everything.
>>
>>720389424
In the arena? No I don't, so far it's taking me more tries than it did beastfly. The runback is just making me so damn tired.

how is he a pleb filter? by the time you get to him he's done in 2 shots (second one optional)

>>720387987
Good advice.
Fuck the ps4 controller and the directional buttons being one big button. That shit is pure cancer. Often it goes unintended places because of it.
I miss my controller with separate ^v<>. ;_;
Honestly, maybe controllers should have both types of d pad on the controller or an ability to switch between both.

That being said, I never had this issue with an snes controller. I don't know what it is about the ps4 controller but it fucking sucks ass. I thought the Xone controller, X360, Wii classic, Switch, n64, ps2, ps3 and PS5 controllers were ass, but I think the ps4 controller is probably the worst.

I wish GC white controllers were cheap, I might have tried one of them. Are they good with directional or just analog?
I might buy another Logitech F310 again. Somehow it was better with directional buttons, though it's triggers fucking sucked.

>>
>>720389046
It's not nearly as bad as Caelid and Starscourge on release. I couldn't even beat Starscourge and literally grinded for days to beat him, just to have him get patched before I could attempt him (which made him pathetic).
Starscourge was bugged apparently, but everyone agrees that bugged Starscourge honestly felt great to try and beat. He was an unavoidable obstacle it felt. Judge kinda captures that a little, but Starscourge was fucking another level. Hardest shit I've attempted other than snes lion king, which gave me nightmares as a kid because that game was horrifically jank.
>>
>>720390140
>you went through the same empty corridors 5 times instead of 20, you didn't beat the game

>>
Are there any benches in Bilewater other than the one at the bellway? Having to run through the entire area every time you die to the boss is pretty BS.
>>
>>720389948
>your keyboard.
Nigga, are you seriously?
>>
>>720390078
Honestly, you shouldn't use this first playthrough.
But then again, Judge's runback is pure evil and even experienced HK players were mad at it.
Not as bad as Bed of Chaos, Four Kings, Sir Alonne or Blue Smelter though. I think maybe people complaining just haven't experienced such nightmares.
>>
>>720387859
These games are literally easier on a keyboard.
>>
>>720389948
>he plays vania with KBM

>>
>>720389948
Why the fuck would doing this on a keyboard be any harder? If anything it’s easier because there is zero ambiguity as to whether or not you’re holding down.
I’m playing this on an arcade stick with no difficulty.
>>
>>720387780
Contact damage in games, it's lazy as fuck one reason I didn't particularly like HK in the first place.
>>
>>720390261

>>
>>720390462
Use the d pad you dumb nigger
>>
>>720390402
>Honestly, you shouldn't use this first playthrough.
Why? It's literally trimming the fat.
Bed of chaos wasn't that bad, it's a gimmick boss that you can understand very quickly.
Four Kings isn't that bad either, Dark Souls bosses can have long runback because they're either gimmicky or require a different strategy that will make the fight a lot easier
Silksong has the spastic bosses philosophy of Elden Ring but without the statues of Marika, making it a chore.
>>
>>720387859
Honestly, I was better with diagonal down spikes on these than I was in HK with a large down slash on most enemies.
Why is it just so much better to down slash in this game? I feel like I always missed in HK to the point where it pissed me off. Not so much here.

>up + rb can fuck right off for projectiles, that alone has killed me more than anything else
>>
>>720390493
Seriously, I feel like at least half the damage I take is contact damage
At least give me some iframes after dealing damage like in shovel knight or disable contact damage when the enemy is staggered, it's so fake
>>
>>720390312
Eh I kinda liked the challenge when exploring.
It did get a little annoying after that though. I don't mind making it hard to get to rest benches.

No I wasn't, it's extremely easy. Ignore flies, jump up walls and shit. Jump over knights. Like there's nothing stopping you from just platforming through.
>>
>>720391043
Well it was fucking hard at the start.
But I got good at it quick.
You just have to hit the flower close.
Though eventually your eye allows you to hit it from a distance with practice and it becomes a rush when you master it.

Jump up a shaft and dodge 3 steam vents?
>>

Now that I think about it... Phantom's was harder. But the only reason why I did him instead was because I was initially miserable with Judge's runback.
For some reason, Phant's didn't piss me off as much.

It's the same issue I have with most modern 2D scrollers.
HK even had the same issue for me. Silksong is far better for me.

But I grew up with DKC, which is pretty fast if you get really good at it with rolling.
>>
>>720391642
That’s because you have no idea what the skill ceiling looks like.
>>
>>720387780
The funny thing about this is I don't think it crossed Team Cherry's mind that anyone would get filtered by this. It's like a tutorial so you can practice using the divekick to platform.

this shit forced me to remap the dash button from R2 to A. finger kept accidentally hitting dash when shit got hectic.
>>
>>720391916
Really low and slow.
I don't want slow being a ceiling. First half hour of silk made me panic it would do that sort of shit. So glad it just went "fuck it" and made you quick from then onward.
I rather ceilings that adapt to an initial default gameplay that feels fast and powerful already in 2D scrollers.

Not in 3D games like Kenshi though, where you want to be handicapped hard to begin with. But that's not doing platform shit and has city builder /resource management aspects.

>>

It's just an example.
For Silksong, the pointless runbacks are an instance of artificial difficulties if said runbacks aren't made to whittle down the player but just make him waste his time by making him respawn very far away from the failed challenge for the sake of it.

You absolutely wouldn't, enemies using their bodies to attack will simply have their hitbox appear when they attack. Making the hitbox linger a bit would also go a long way to prevent facetanking.

Keyboards are actually completely fine for platformers. I'm convinced the reason people struggle is because they use the arrow keys and aren't used to using their right hand for movement. Just use WASD and JKL+UIO and it's essentially an arcade cabinet setup with a d-pad.
At the end of the day it's buttons and you press them and that's all a controller needs to be for a game like this.

Runbacks aren't difficulty. They're punishment to make dying meaningful.
If the game didn't give you easy infinite healing then they'd add to the difficulty in the same way a game with limited lives/continues forces you to improve at the early parts to bring more resources to the later parts. But this is a modern casual game so it's made to be easy enough for anyone to beat.

no, the point of runbacks is to frustrate the player and make them fuck up on the way to the boss. same with Souls games
you may not like it, but calling it "artificial difficulty" is stupid

"games" are, by deffinition, made of rules, and a rule of this game is: you die, you go back to the bench, wherever that is.
you can break these rules using cheats or whatever, I don't care.

but every rule, for every game, is arbitrary, made up, invented. and therefore "artificial"

just call it what people have been calling these things for ever: "this is bullshit"
it's a more honest reaction instead of making up retarded terms in order to sound smarter than you are
>>
>>720393987
>no, the point of runbacks is to frustrate the player and make them fuck up on the way to the boss. same with Souls games

I've already answered that:

If there is nothing to fuck up, it's entirely artificial.

I beat it. It's just deeply unsatisfying.
>>
>>720389948
Correction. YOU can't. I have no problems.
>>
>>720393987
They're not meant to "make you fuck up" by frustrating you. They're supposed to frustrate you so there are actual stakes to the fight. If you just immediately go back in with zero risk then the stakes are lower and the fight is less exciting and the victory less enjoyable.
It's the difference between a more oldschool platformer and Super Meat Boy where no death matters because you can just keep throwing yourself into the grinder until you luck your way through.

In souls games they're also meant to drain your healing supplies forcing you to improve at the level to have a better shot at the boss.

>>
>>720394661
The vast majority of Silksong runbacks are zero-risk, they're just time wasting. It's totally unlike, say, the very long Maneater runback in DeS. You can't really luck your way through in Silksong (at least from what I've seen), bosses have far too much hp to allow for a lucky kill the same way it can happen in other games with a bleed build or something.
>>
>>720394919
>you have to pogo back from there
Glide down, glide down, run and jump, run and jump, glide up.
0 pogo to the bench
>>
>>720394949
Yes, they are time wasting. They waste your time to frustrate you. It's a punishment so that you care about not dying. There are a ton of people who will just keep bashing their head against a wall until they get through. But give them a reason not to do it that way and they'll change the way they play. Give them time between attempts to think about the fight and they'll start to strategize some.
Not everyone will, but a lot more will.
>>
>>720394919
This pogo is actually very good, if you use it against spikes for instance you bounce off them, giving you another chance.

>>
>>720395194
Generating frustation through wasting time is the cheapest thing you can do as a game designer.

Making health items limited is actually a much better way to do it, you essentially remove the pointless busywork and give the player the choice to either 1) learn the boss very well since he can't heal without consequences or 2) go back and farm healing items (which serves the same purpose when it comes to strategizing during the downtime with the added benefits of being a lot more interactive and potentially leading to discoveries as the player goes to farm the healing items).

It's just bouncing on platforms it's not hard. Why would it take you longer than 1 minute to adjust, unless you're some kind of troglodyte who just stumbled into the world and has never played a video game before?
>>
>>720395751
I will never defend pressing an input and the character going in another direction, it's just bad.
>>
>>720395509
Depends. Grinding(wasting time) to make things easier is different than wasting time as a punishment. There are many players who will just do that from the outset because they view it as optimal. Ideally in a game like Silksong, the levels and regular enemies would be engaging enough that the punishment of having to play the levels would actually be fun, but sadly it's not a very good game which is why there are so many complaints of the game forcing you to play more of the game.
Making healing items limited can also just mean people refuse to use them.

There's no one answer for what's the best with these sorts of things.

I got BETTER at the (HK) game when I switched from Switch to Steam.
I Steel Hearted + P5'd on the Switch version and when I got to AbsRad with keyboard controls I beat her BOTH the times I ever fought her. I've never once lost to AbsRad on keyboard.
Just get gud.
Diagpogo pilots like a dream on keyboard. I'm solo Hunter for my first playthrough. Why would I use anything else and fuck up my muscle memory?
I saw the Wander's Crest one time and instantly thought to myself "Nah I want to play the sequel to Hollow Knight, not Hollow Knight again."

You can reach beastfly very early in the game, if you return to the big ant nigger immediately after getting the dash.
In this case, without tools, damage upgrades, aoe skills etc, you will actually eat shit, and apparently it's hard to figure out that you should just leave and return later.

This boss is a rngfest that entirely depends on what adds he summon, when, and how they move.
Beastfly's hitbox is also hellish and until you're familiar with it you can get hit when trying to fuck his ass when he's staggered. He also has a checkmate charge move, if you were positioned midway between the high point of a jump and the ground, he will do a sidecharge you can NOT avoid because it covers both your grounded stance and your jump.
I don't know what you call "filtered" (like, 1hour+ worth of tries?) but he's definitely very annoying to fight.
>>
Actually, runbacks are supposed to make you think about smarter pathing and how you can improve your movement.
>>
>>720397763
Beastfly is a treatise about why Contact Damage is a shitty mechanic
>>
>>720397968
I'm convinced I could have beat beastfly if he was the first tutorial boss of the game.
He has TWO MOVES that are extremely telegraphed
>>
>>720397909
>risk/reward
It's very easy to execute if you press it when the enemy is near the end of their animation.
Also heal helps with gang fights a lot, but it's not even the main point, the main point is that your weapon hitbox is unreasonably long and wide with it compared to any other crest. Sure attack speed is bit lower, but consistent damage application makes up for that.
>>
>>720397889

This is 90% of what git gud means:
You can upgrade your weapon by hilighting their slots and using memory fragments at a bench. I waited all game expecting an NPC to do it.
Buy the throwing weapon in deep docks, this is great for all the gauntlets and any non ground bosses.
You really need to do the 6 purple pollip quest in shellwood for poison on tools. 1 hit is now 3.
Kill Splinter using [spear]
Wanderer's crest is in Bone Bottom, just go west from town and climb the far wall
Wall cling is in shellwood
Kill Widow [hugging right wall]
Quest in Sinner's Road to kill 10 of those sleeping guys gives floor tacks weapon that melts bosses.
You can skip the last judge if you go through the mist area/exhaust organ and fight phantom, may arguably be harder. You can't reach the travel thing at exhaust organ this way it opens from the other side
Grapple hook is in underworks, all down middle room with the flame blocks, all right, all up, left
Alchemist crest is [spoiler}immediately after the hook, buy key from room with the bench and go up
Double jump is in mt fay, northwest zone past slab. This place is brutal platforming and no there isn't anything to block the cold.
Hunter's March has boomerang weapon which can curve in larger enemies and hit them 4+ times.

This is supposed to be like this because it's a co-op fight.
You can have Garmond and Zaza and/or Shakra for this fight.
Garmond is easy to recruit, you unlock him by fighting him in the outside of the first shrine. To get outside the shrine, you need to go a bit to the bottom and then find an ultra secret room that is top right of a bell shaped room.look for a map or a guide or something.
Shakra is harder because you need to finish her entire questline before

>>720411453
An anon gave me a tipp in another thread that helped me beat it and now I'm gonna pass it on to you, they can't both attack at the same time and they usually alternate with their attacks.
If you learned the patterns well enough try to unload all your tools on one of them when they spawn, once you get to 1v1 it's super easy.
If you can upgrade your weapon three times first, it makes the fight much quicker.

I waited 6 years for a completely different version of the current game I had made up in my mind, you HAVE to adapt the game so it's easy enough for me and exactly how I had imagined it! No I won't use my abilities, no I won't use my tools, no I won't explore to find rosaries, I want to spam button attack, rush boss to boss, have infinite money to buy everything right away, and heal to full after getting hit 20 time in a row by face tanking everything. Also don't forget to add benches before every boss that way I don't have to practice my moveset and mobility and can just go back to facetanking everything without losing precious seconds. The current state of the game is a disgrace to your fans, and I hope you address the issues quickly.
>>
>>720426243
until you get cornered by the bladestorm flies, or are forced to a single platform as the fucker spawns two lava spitters and then follows with a charge attack

Lure him back over the first platform he destroys so he dives into the lava. He'll destroy a platform when he shoots back out, but it's slower and lets you clear out the adds while also reducing the likelihood that you'll end up with one or two platforms.

I will not be 100%ing this game and it's going to exist lower than hollow knight to me even though it was going to be one of my all time favorites before act 3.
>git gud
I got good and beat it. That doesn't make every single enemy in the game spamming the same projectiles and pausing the fight every 2 seconds to spaz out any fun. Also every other enemy just not being there at all, every zone being filled with ugly garbage and constant screaming. I wish the game ended earlier even if it meant losing all of the kino time travel fights.
It's not fun or cool, it just sucks and makes the game worse.

I cant believe how many people (mutts) dont understand this simple concept
>They're supposed to frustrate you so there are actual stakes to the fight.
They are literally your punishment, its like falling down after a jump and having to do it all again.
The point is to make you suffer from failure so there is a real, tangible penalty for said failure.
Games with boss-respawns, like Elden Ring, prove this very concept is true and neccessary.
look at how tourists took on bosses in ER compared to DaS or DeS. in ER theyre throwing themselves at it over and over like autistic headless chickens until they win through attrition, not being careful, just slowly learning to get hit less.
Meanwhile in DS they are being cautious, slow, methodical, and dedicating time to watching, observing and learning. They fear death. In ER is mearly a frustration to whinge about, in DS its an actual punishment to avoid, because each loss means something tangible to the player

people who bitch about 'runbacks' are video game tourists, they dont want a game, they wont to be told they won.

2D platformers are objectively better with keyboard, the movement is already 2-4 directional so a stick is useless and with KB you use 3 fingers for your movement rather than just your thumb meaning you can have faster and more precise movements. About to be done with the game so here's a random review
The game is not difficult but it is festered with a lot of cheap shit. This is more noticeable in act 2 than act 3, because in act 3 the devs stopped with the whole
>arena is 20km from bench
>long gauntlet over AIDS or lava
>recycled minibosses that spawn flying shooter
Act 2 is fucking horrible and I'm surprised that I enjoyed act 3. The overall difficulty, not counting the shitty minibosses, is average. Most of act 2 bosses die first attempt for no good reason. Act 3 bosses are harder but right now there are only like 2-3 memorable bosses. The game overall lends much of its famed "difficulty" from the shitty copypasted fights. One of the hardest fights for me in act 3 was ... double moss mother with black goo. It's just crazy lazy how they just copy the literal first boss in the game twice and makes it hard.
Also thanks god there's no grinding in act 3. Surprised there wasn't a quest that requires 1 billion rosaries or something. God I hate act 2.

the one hard-ish section I've seen so far is the ants one and it has a big scary guy right at the entrance to make pussies fuck off, maybe you are just shit at games if you think that the normal trash mobs that slowly move towards you and die in 3 hits (1-2 seconds) are cancer?
Like seriously where the hell is this hardcore early game difficulty /v/irgins have been crying about? I've got 3 crests and I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to completing act 1 and 90% of the game has been trivially easy so far

They cant power level to curbstomp the early game and they seem incapable of learning new mechanics. So many people are just trying to facetank shit.

yesssss speedrun sisters how fast have we beat the game today
im already at 12 hours for 100% completion, if only TC made the game harderrrrr
>>

I'm going to go for the any% run achievement, the 100% run seems way too sloggy but I respect the grind. Seems like a fun speedrun game in general though.

I bet they play the game like they are racing against time, weaving through mobs rather than killing them one by one only to get swarmed by them, and trying to speed kill bosses by attacking them as much as possible rather than making sure they can dodge the next attack.
The game is much easier if you keep calm and take it slow, but I guess people are in a hurry to finish it so they can brag online or move on to the next FOMO

if he does the mid height attack just reaper pogo of him, works on my machine. When it's too high you stay on the ground. It's only bad when flyers corner you which shouldn't happen with silkstorm and toolspam.
>>
>>720403723

>>
>>720432383
Exactly this. Most of these dudes treat every game like it’s Skyrim-spam attack, heal through everything, and cry when it doesn’t work. They see a new enemy pattern and their brain just shuts off. If you stop and actually learn the enemy tells, the game’s not even remotely hard, just demands a shred of focus. But nah, gotta try and brute force everything with zero movement and then blame the devs when it goes sideways.

>>720433269
Probably a lot, I bet some people also play using analog sticks
But I also think a lot of people don’t even realize they’re just playing with high input lag, since the game has vsync enabled and runs in borderless window mode by default

The game has an NPC that tells you that area is a dangerous challenge and yet you keep doing it over and over. I am convinced most of the biggest whiners are just trying to facetank hard optional content early and crying when they aren't being rewarded with free wins.

I understand why some people in a similar situation prefer chill games with guaranteed progression, but with the right mindset even just beating a boss in your daily hour of playing can be satisfying

>>
>>720389948
No, YOU can't lol. I already finished the game on KBM.
>>
>>720434303
Silksong basically does have guaranteed progression, its not like you lose items or map progress or anything. You can lose your rosaries but you can get them back, and its better than Hollow Knight because at least you can bank them into a held item.

>>720434359
Silksong has fun bosses though. There are a few flubs but most are good to great.

Maybe past Act 1, but I didn't make it that far yet. So far every single boss was irredimable trash. 2-3 moves repeated over and over with fuckhuge hitbox and optional area-denial minions up your ass for extra flavor. TC truly solved game design.
>>

I’m gonna be honest /v/ I started modding the bullshit out of this game like grinding for prayer beads and double damage on basic shit. The games much better now I can just explore without being locked out of basic mechanics like fucking bench’s and fast travel because I don’t want to seek out the specific enemies that drop them and grind

If a fight reminds of a rhythm game, developers achieved peak game design. They actually managed to get you in the flow state and made you feel the rhythm of the game. This is a good thing. It's not a criticism.
>>
>>720434939
Based, this is how the game should've been from the start. Troon Cherry spent 7 years grinding Silksong non stop and it warped their perception of difficulty, so they had to add some artificial obstacles like paid bench
>>
>>720435830
this, only DMC fags who always bring up "muh player expression" and who believe that juggling passive enemies is aking to painting on a canvas would disagree.

You dumb ape, the only thing paid benches add to the game is they force you to grind as if it's a 2010 korean mmo. There are areas with like 2-3 pilgrim enemies in total and benches that cost 60-80, the supply of rosaries is too low. There's no skill expression in running back and forth grinding the same enemies to get enough. You are disingenuous faggot and your mouth is full of TC's cock

I like both, I love DMCs freedom to perform gorillion moves to dunk on bosses, I love Sekiro's rhythm combat and I love Hi-Fi Rush with actualy rhythm combat.
Silksong is awkward middle ground, where enemies move erratically and don't have any rhythm and at the same time your toolset and moveset is too damn small and everyone is a damage sponge.

>he needs to grind for 80 rosaries

>>720436697
