the only time I ever played actual d&d and not a video game like baldur's gate was when I was in high school. I made my character a dick ass thief. I wanted to kick doors and kill monsters but the rest of the group was gay theater kids so we were stuck talking to some lame npc trying to get some magical item. I was bored so I said fuck this let me try to pick his pocket. the dm said I needed some high number to pass, which I assume he arbitrarily picked thinking I couldn't pass because he acted surprised when I said I had cleared it. then he said that instead of the item we were looking for I had stolen an anti-thievery device which alerted the npc. I said I was going to use some other skill to avoid getting caught and rolled a 20. the dm then went full tantrum mode and had him cast a force cage around me so another player (some fag who didn't like me) could tpk me, but my character was more minmaxed than his so I won that fight too. then the dm killed my character by crushing me with the force cage and kicked me out of the group.what is the moral of this story? idk don't make a dick ass thief when you are the new guy I guess.

The fighter is directly powerful and unmatched in straight combat, able to beat anyone else with a massive HP pool, high durability, and good damage.
