Please be honest and keep the trolling posts down. What are your current feelings about Nintendo?

anti-consumer

I think it's funny how many people thdy can make melt down compared to other companies

I cheer them because I hate graphicfagging over gameplay that have been a trend for most devs up until now.

>>
>>720603263
They make snoys seethe to this day so they're ok in my book.
>>
>>720603263
I'm wondering when they are making a new f zero and why they are giving devs so much time to develop their games but then trimming them down anyway.
>>720603531
this too. glad they dont make moviegames either, anyone saying they dont make games (like this nigger >>720603672) are just seething snoys.
The only problem is they dont make enough of them.
>>
Indifference, there's a bunch of neat smaller games that fill the void of the era of Nintendo i used to like.
Going through Cavern of Dreams now, it's fun.
>>
>>720603263
Their Switch 2 is kinda lackluster for now. The only interesting game on the thing to me is the Donkey Kong game and nothing else, not even among announced but unreleased games. Kinda disappointing.
>>
>>720603263
Probably the only company at this point making their own original games in that style with games like Tomodachi Life 2
Fanbase of manchildren who deserve to be milked dry even if they complain about everything because they know you don't really care and are as buckbroken as the pokemonfags
>>
>>720603263
A lot of baffling decisions coming out of them and their ecosystem. I think being so successful is having them go into a greedy/complacent arc again so I expect things to get even worse for a while. Once companies get too successful they start courting new audiences to buy their products and that's normally where they start making decisions that alienate older fans. That's where I believe Nintendo is at right now.
>>
Gayest fucking fans by far to the point I'd gas them over jews

>Respect the value.
Yet you stopped respecting the value of the internal battery of your portable platforms. A telltale sign of not being pro-consumer. Feels disrespectful desu.
>>
>>720603263
New President fucking sucks and is making everything expensive on purpose because he doesn't have the compassion that and smarts that Iwata had.
>>
>>720604792
>A lot of baffling decisions coming out of them and their ecosystem.

Can you explain. I see everyone saying they are greedy when all they fucking did was raise game prices 10 dollars more. Its actually insane how everyone went apeshit for something that has been the norm for years. The console price itself its very reasonable for what you get. So I honestly don't get the complaints. Also its not even factoring tariffs having effects on accessories and whatnot. Also most of the shit about switch 2 has been fucking either entirely false or a overraction from retards. 90 dollar games here in the US. False. All games being game key cards. False. Gamecube NSO controller only working on gamecube games. False. Eula saying that they will brick your system. Literally a non issue every manufacturer of hardware has the exact same thing. Joy con connection pins easily breakable. False. Switch 2 needs a day one update to work. False. Doug bowser saying buy a switch 1 instead of a switch 2. false. Bayonetta 3 voice acting
>>

>>
>>720604938
The problem with this is that the gamepad needed a physical off switch, so instead it's constantly on in standby mode waiting for a Wii U signal.
>>
I'm in a very weird spot with Nintendo. I know I'm no longer the target audience for them anymore, but I've invested so much time into them over the years that I feel like garbage being hit with this realization. I already had a feeling a few years into the Switch 1's life, but I just accepted it yesterday.

I've been in this exact situation before back in gen 6 when I was going to put games aside as my main hobby by the end of it since I didn't see the industry going anywhere other than just doing better graphics essentially. It was LITERALLY because of Nintendo with the Revolution (Wii) and DS that I decided to stay in this. I bought into the philosophy Iwata was about and basically went from being essentially a SEGA guy with an NES, N64 and a Gamecube (GCN being the one I really didn't click with) to a "Nintendo guy". Now here I am again where I'm bored of even what Nintendo is doing and I know I'm not going to be excited for what are essentially games that will play the exact same as they would on Switch 1 if they didn't have the graphical bump. I don't want to say it's because "I'm too old" since I do still like playing games on PC sometimes when I have the time, but I'm not excited by anything Nintendo is doing anymore, I haven't been for years now, and it fucking sucks. My Switch 1 is essentially just used to play older Nintendo games on anyway save for F-Zero 99 that I had a lot of fun playing with people here, and any newer games I find semi interesting end up being a games I can get on my PC.

So far this is my first time ever going through a generation where I have NO current gen consoles and also have no desire to own one. Nobody in my house even cares about the consoles like I do anywhere so nobody here is begging me to buy one for them either. It's like ending a tradition and it sucks really hard.

Sorry for the long post.
>>
>>720605074
he cant explain, they never can.
No offense to that anon, but he's buying into a posthoc narrative, Nintendo hasnt changed at all, everyone just bitches about different shit now.
Majoras mask was literally a cash grab, rushed out in a year, a literal asset flip, and sold for 70usd at the time (now 150) and required a memory pack to play (which was what, another 50 usd?) and nobody bat a fucking eye.
Now the reaction to some games being 70usd is "IT MUST BE SHIT, IT WOULD BE CHEAPER IF IT WASNT!"
>>
>>720603263
The palworld lawsuit based on patenting game mechanics was the last straw for me. I'll never buy another nintendo product.

>>720604982
The new president was an accountant who worked his way up while Iwata was a game developer. It explains a lot of the bullshit like price increases and the digital only games instead of actually focusing on the strong lineups they've been known for in the past.

>>
>>720605074
$20* more.

I'm a Nintenchad but let me explain how the new management has been doing since Iwata died:
Raise Amiibo prices from $12 to $20, some are $30-40.
Raised games by $70 with Tears of the Kingdom as a test, then went full retard with Mario Kart World being $80. Donkey Kong Bananza launched at $70. Like a month and a half later they dropped a new DLC which technically makes the game $90.

Raised the online price from $20 to $50 with the Nintendo Online + Expansion Pass to access N64 and GameCube games. What's also fucked is that the Expansion Pass was literally made to have free access to Nintendo game DLCs aka expansions, yet we haven't gotten anything since Splatoon 2.

Raised the prices of all hardware because of "tariffs" when the Switch and it's hardware has not had a single price drop in 8 years.

Overall I think the price gouging is going to slow down the business, and it's going to end up with Amazon and Best Buy and Walmart/Target being stuck with more expensive stock that isn't moving as fast as the first console.

Personally I think the game key cards are much better than an empty game box with a code, but at the same time I have not bought a single Game Key Card title and probably never will.

Nintendo makes video games.

Sony and Square Enix make movies. Microsoft makes flops. Atlus makes remakes. Epic, Tencent, Hoyo, etc. make casinos. Valve makes nothing. Who else is there? At least Nintendo does the bare minimum of a gaming company, which is to make a video game. You buy the thing and play the thing. You do not play slots. You do not watch the movie. You play the fucking game. Nintendo is alive because everyone else sucks.

Nintendo crashed and burned during the N64 era for a reason. The games were too expensive while Playstation games were $20. With the Gamecube, Nintendo had to really focus on being consumer friendly so they had the Player's Choice games for $20 too. Whenever Nintendo has to try, things get pretty cool. The N64 and Gamecube had great games. The Wii U and early Switch also had good games but the games that released later in the Switch lifecycle weren't as good. During the SNES/Genesis wars, the SNES was also incredible. Competition is a good thing and Nintendo being in their own segmented market kinda sucks.

This. I feel like Nintendo saw that people will pay insane amounts of money for their stuff no matter what and decided just to go full ham on it with stuff like this or merch. Which, from a business standpoint, makes sense. Between all the money they made on merch sales and stuff like Pokemon TCG stuff I get it.

Thing is, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth and makes me go "I have better things I can be doing with my time and money and can just wait on a lot of this." I am 37, I am not the target audience at all. I can easily afford all of this with the job I have, but I can tell the quality has been dropping. Doesn't help that after the direct yesterday, I sense we might be going through some Wii U levels of drought.

They aren't living up to their potential. It's not only that they're making overpriced products, but I don't even know who some of these games are for (the Virtual Boy a prime example). Better networking, make a more comprehensive Virtual Console available with the online service. Switch 2 library is still lacking. Update some franchises people love, Kid Icarus or Star Fox?
>>
>>720603263
Has-been company following the trajectory of every other has-been company coasting off an easy fanbase with unchecked success and money: Litigate everyone, lobby everything, innovate nothing.

It's a sad downward spiral of quality that becomes when your company is taken by bean counters and the product quits mattering. Sad part is that this typically results in a brief period of being more successful than ever because if you cut the quality people come to expect of you: that means you can sell gradually cheaper and shittier stuff before your reputation catches up with you. Big, plastic replicas of failed VR consoles is one such example.

Every LiPo battery degrades regardless, sometimes even in ways that can damage the device. That's why they designed the 3DS and WiiU pro controller to have theirs easily replaceable by the end-user.

This is the end result of having money counters as your CEOs instead of legit game developers.

We didn't realize how good we had it with Iwata and Reggie. Reggie was a money guy who knew what customers would enjoy and Iwata was a game dev guy who knew what kind of games would do well. It was really a dream team and we're living in the aftermath of having that reputation while being ran by bean counters who only care about what sell well.

And sure, the bean counters and money lenders ARE right, what is going on right now has made more money than Iwata and Reggie ever could, but that doesn't mean it's good for the company. It's better to be a company with a good reputation with money in the bank than a company that burns that reputation for firewood.

We don't live in sane world, though. We live in a world where companies only care about quarter to quarter because that's what makes investors, their actual customers, happy. And this will remain until Dodge vs Ford is overturned.

I don't. I'm not paying $5 for an NES ROM. Not paying $10 for an N64 ROM.
>But a real N64 cart is like $80!!!!
Yeah? And a downloaded ROM is FREE.

Believe me, I spent hundreds of dollars on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS VC games and I don't regret it. It's just that this time I just can't do it again, especially that all this VC titles I purchased are basically no longer tied to my account.

If Nintendo had a system like Steam then maybe things would be different. The current NSO service is fine for me because I rarely even play retro games anymore (was playing Star Fox 64 last night with the N64 controller tho).

Everything they do feels like C- work, Like this is ok, but I'd like to see more or could be better. Take for instance that Pokepia game coming up. A Dragonquest Builders + Minecraft + Animal Crossing =Pokemon game sounds like a S tier idea but how it was presented; just left me wanting more.

Why are we a ditto? Why can't we make our own trainer/character? It be cool to build our own Safari Zone, use the lore you already have and play Zoo Tycoon but with pokemon. Again, just C- Ideas.

>with improved graphics and performance (non emu)
They are Wii games, charging 2x Silksong or about the price of E33 for a single one is a joke. Nintendo is consistently bad about charging way too much for the remakes/remasters/smaller games.

>common practice and third parties asked for it
>common practice
With the Switch 2, it's the smaller storage space that really makes matters worse. The 800gb-1tb that other consoles have compared to the 256gb that the Switch 2 is a really big deal. So Game Key Carts become incredibly inconvenient and consumers have to buy micro SD express cards so that Nintendo and third party publishers can save more money.

>Likely released later in switch2 life

I'm 36 and DK Bananza is the best game of the year. Everyone is still making movie slop and here comes Nintendo yer again with a game that is just a game.

However $500 for the console, and $70 for the game is shit. Like you, I can afford this. I could buy 100 Switch 2s if I wanted. I just DONT want to pay these prices. So with Switch 2 I'm going to be super picky with what I buy, and I'm just going to hit my backlog of Switch 1 games because I am terrible at finishing games.

When they're doing good, they're doing really fucking good. When they're doing bad, it's really fucking bad. There's never a "oh, that sorta sucks" or "oh, that was good, but not great"

Seeing their cockiness take them from free post-launch support like Kirby Star Allies' extra modes and characters and game modes like Luigi's Balloon World and extra costumes in Odyssey to content quite blatantly stripped from Donkey Kong Bananza before launch in the space of a single generation is fucking insane to say the least, topped up with
>you want mario galaxy 2? $40 :) oh, but you can buy a bundle with galaxy 1 for the low low price of $70
>remember the virtual boy? we know you're already paying a subscription service, so you'll be happy to hear you can ONLY play it with the addition of a shitty $99 plastic replica of the virtual boy :) what? the controllers? no, the hunk of plastic doesn't have those! why would it?

The drop in quality has been very noticeable. Princess Peach Showtime and Echoes of Wisdom show that Nintendo is now making games explicitly for little girls. They're wasting dev time and resources trying to appeal to newer markets instead of catering to their old ones and you can see this with the game design shifting more and more towards open world with their new releases as well.

The old Nintendo innovated, the new Nintendo trend chases. We a Donkey Kong game with equipment and skill trees. Insane.

Even as a NEET that can play games for free, there's simply too many new releases coming out these days. Games are so fucking padded too and a lot of people have other games they play with friends or are a part of their daily chore routine because they're gachafags so the amount of free time isn't there even as a NEET. God forbid you have a job or a family because you're going to be playing that 100+ hour game like FF7 Rebirth for months.

Everything being multiplat now probably plays into it a bit because back in the day if you weren't an idort, the new games on other consoles might as well not have existed but now there's a constantly deluge of games on every console/PC.

This game has been released five times since it was put out and you can find it used on ebay for $30 for both ofthem.
>>
>>720607304
Astrobot has been released once, so even if this was comparable to a game that has seen multiple re-releases, it still doesn't excuse a 16 year old game pack with zero improvements being as much as a full fledged new game when it runs on any basic bitch PC with Dolphin for free.

Even on the original switch it makes no sense

They're fumbling the switch 2 pretty badly. They've yet to put out a game worthy of the system aside from Mario kart.
They're playing their cards way too close to the chest when it comes to information.
Prime 4 is going to be shit just like dread.
Data key cards are a mistake and third party developers that are desperate for more sales and rely on them are getting fucked hard by an audience that is open to spending truck loads money, but VERY PICKY on what they spend money on.
The SD card Express as a storage medium is a the biggest weakness of the console.

Sony and Microsoft no longer seem to be real competition for Nintendo, and Nintendo is in a tough spot now without the real competition from Sony and Microsoft, which it can be compared to. A lot of Nintendo's grace came from how they managed to maintain a certain image against their competitors.
Also, they are still struggling to find themselves after the loss of Satoru Iwata.
I am frankly glad Nintendo is the last one standing of the big 3 competitors in the 00's/10's console wars, it's not an ideal situation at all, but probably the best outcome. But that's also a difficult position to be in.
Its easy to point the finger at Nintendo and call them especially greedy now, but it's also true that the economy seems to be getting worse, and Nintendo is frankly just doing what any reasonable company would do in their position.

Video games are, or should be, ultimately, for children and families. Not me.
Nintendo is still the best company for that market.
I feel I have more to say, but I'll end my post there. I am happy the family friendly company won the console wars, even if it's less than ideal for me as a videogame enjoyer.
>>
>>720607536
I don't think Yamauchi is a game dev. People need to accept that Iwata was an outlier, not the norm.
>>
>>720603263

Iwata was kind of bad at running the company.
You all love him now. You didn't love him when you weren't buying a Wii U, and turning your nose up at things like Wii Music, or laughing at the Wii vitality censor.

Nintendo should consider bringing back Reggie in some form.
I get a strange sense he was replaced by Bowser because of Trump's win, and Nintendo wanted to appear more conservative.
So Reggie was ousted and Bowser was in.
Reggie was really fun and likeable though.
"If it's not fun, why bother" is an idea I stick to.
>>
>>720608224
Video games are in the same position that books have been in over the past 15 years.
They're no longer competing amongst themselves. They're competing against EVERYTHING.
YouTube, mobile, streaming services, movies, fads/FOTM, and whatever gets people's attention.
Nintendo is doing a good job compared to Microsoft and Sony, but it's not going to last much longer. That's part of the reason why Nintendo is leaning harder on the culture victory they got. They have a 40 year head start compared to Microsoft and Sony.
>>
>>720603263
Honestly, I was a fan from my earliest fragmented memories playing the NES, up until Wii, couldn't stand the 180 and exclusive pandering to casuals
Wii U/ 3DS brought me back in
I got duped into getting the switch because the smash edition system, and I grew to very much dislike the direction I could see Nintendo going
In the weeks leading up to officially released switch 2 info, I could see the writing on the wall, and with all my concerns confirmed, I decided to go cold turkey from giving Nintendo any more money, after roughly 34 years, whether it's hardware, software, or merchandise, I'm done with them
And because everything they're doing is reverse engineered to squeeze blood from stone, with no drive to innovative or care for their customers
They're never going back to the way things were, and I suppose with that neither will I

The refusal to just lower prices is going to be the death of a lot of things in the long run.
Bring back the Player's Choice range, drop prices to 50% off, after the game has been out a year. They'll immediately win back the part of the audience that they're pricing themselves out of.
Also launch at $50, not 80.
They'll make back the money on Amiibos and bullshit anyway.

They release games. That's a plus. That's somehow an achievement in the current industry
The games themselves are typically fun. There's a certain level of quality you can be guaranteed even if it ends up forgettable. Except Pokemon. I do feel like the games on the Switch were as a whole not as driven though, nothing really wow'd me. Even Wii U with its poor library had at least two games I especially enjoyed (Splatoon and Xenoblade X). Not sure how much I'll be going back to it in the future. Hopefully the Switch 2 will be better, getting it later for Air Riders.
The Switch itself was a negative experience. The controllers are pieces of shit, stopped being able to use handheld mode a year in because of the drift. Introduced paid online for worse network service than what was on the Wii U. No internet features. Generally grey and lifeless UI that was an incredibly jarring coming from the 3DS with the themes, badges, seasonal eshop music, all that shit.
Then otherwise, they've always done retarded shit that's purely negative for the consumer like region locks and shutting down fan games, but could a guy just get a fucking sale? To this day Mario Kart 8, an 11 year old Wii U game, is $60. DK Tropical Freeze released on the Wii U for $50, lowered to $20 for Nintendo Selects, but because it got a New Funky Mode™ on the Switch it's now $60 11 years later. Like what the fuck? Hardly the only thing I've had a problem with either, like having limited time digital releases for no reason. My nigga Mario Royale died for an official clone of it that was not only worse but only existed for a year.
>>
The Switch 2 being able to be remotely bricked by an automated system is a hard "No" for me in terms of my interest in the console.
Not that I have any fear that I would run afoul of that system, but culture changes quickly.
What's "OK" today might become "cancel-worthy" tomorrow.
Hackers might be able to take advantage of the system and ruin a lot of people's day.
I have no interest in spending 600-700 dollars or whatever the price is on a console that might stop working randomly for software reasons in addition to hardware reasons.

Also, there's the issue of the Switch 2 owner whose sister named an account "Twink Link" and got his console bricked.
I am actually ok with the word "Twink" being censored. If it's Nintendo policy to censor that word from account names and in-game chat services to promote a family friendly ecosystem, that's ok with me.

But why could you name an account "Twink" and get your 700$ console bricked in the first place?
Isn't that what word filters are for?
Surely you can't include words in your account name like "Fuck", and merely typing that in won't brick your console right? The system will just ask you to enter a different account name ... right?
The scenario in which someone named their account "Twink Link" and got hit with an automated console bricking is dystopian.

God fucking damnit reveal some splatoon raiders details. I really got into that series this year.

Actually looking forward to legends ZX, I expect it will actually be good.

Honestly I love the direction nintendo is going with the huge interactive and interconnected worlds. The amount of detail and decoration they put into games like bananza was insane.
I figured I'd get Kirby and the forgotten land since I skipped it when it released and it kinda blows my mind how detailed and well decorated the envioronments are.

I think it draws my eye more because the worlds are usually abstract and exaggerated. everything is placed deliberately. and the worlds feel 'real' in a way.

There are plenty of things to complain about. but I'm having a great time with the games they have released. and I don't think that will change any time soon.

>Please be honest and keep the trolling posts down. What are your current feelings about Nintendo?

I've been playing games since 1994.
I've never been a diehard Nintendo fan, ever.
The last consoles that really caught me were the GameCube and the DS and 3ds.
Nintendo really seemed to be inspired at that time.
The Wii, Wii U, Switch and now the Switch 2 are just not interesting to me in the slightest.
Their overall output of games is surprisingly low compared to prior generations. With the DS and Wii in conjunction you had just tons and tons of 1st party Nintendo games being churned out, and even though I'm not a fan of Nintendo you still had to respect the overall constant production of games for their fans.

Now it's like I'm tuning in the a direct every 6 months to see if they have even 1 or 2 games that interested, and in the last 4 or 5 directs I haven't been interested in anything. And I'm shocked at the volume of releases coming out.
My opinion is that they're stagnating too much and they need to focus on trying to get into the groove they had during the 7th Gen.
My overall feelings about modern Nintendo, though, is that I could simply live without them. Nothing from the company has caught my eye in years.

I'm not going to say Iwata's era was better because it definetly had its caveats like the Wii U and its drought in 2015 but you can tell Furukawa is a textbook japanese corporate man and it's influence has definetly leaked across Nintendo's games. Incredibly disappointing. They've been closing the gap of nastiness between them and their competition more and more with every month that goes by, especially with their ridiculous pivot back into pushing themselves as a "premium" brand.

Their fanbase is a major contributing factor though. With the Switch, especially since Pokémon SwSh, Nintendo has cultivated an audience motivated purely by obligation (and even spite in extreme cases, like a lot of /v/) to buy shit just because it exists at a time when they haven't bought something recently, not as much anymore because it's actually interesting to them.

Im a pretty big Nintendo guy but I am too poor for the Switch 2 ecosystem. I could buy a Switch 2 if i saved but I cant do Nintendo Online Expansion pack, $70–$80 games, etc etc.
Normally I couldnt resist getting the new console but Im weirdly okay with waiting. Even with Airriders on the horizon. Im still waiting for that one game I 100% need.

Basically Nintendo’s best shot with me is releasing something like Animal Crossing, Smash, new 3D Mario, etc. and releasing some special edition Switch 2 to make it easy for me. Although even with a switch 2 im not getting online expansion pass, and buying games very rarely since everything is just too much money.
So yeah rip i guess. Guess nintendo is just too expensive for people at my level of poverty.

It's 70 for both which is still retarded. What's worse is they charged 60 for 3 games 5 years ago and for a limited time.
>No premium version with an OLED screen, which is a step backwards
You know damn well they only do premium models in the middle of a console's lifespan. Besides, do you really want more retards screaming into the void about how the OLED would be 550 or more?
>Charging $80 for Switch 2 versions like Kirby in general
As outrageous as it may be, these are made for those who didn't got these games during the Switch 1 era and it at least includes all updates and qol they made for the Switch 2 version. Though they're not that enticing when you could grab the former for cheaper.

Yamauchi wasn't a game dev but he knew that, he also knew that messing with the game devs was a bad idea because he did not know anything about vieo games.

He still had Gunpei Yokoi killed for making the Wonderswan and nothing wil convince me otherwise.

I genuinely don't think it's a price issue.
There just aren't enough games right now. The only thing that interests me is Metroid Prime 4 on higher quality hardware and the thought of some switch games having a performance boost.
If you ask me what I want, I don't know if I could give you an answer, but they have entire teams of people who work to figure that out and their ideas so far aren't what I want.

Boeing was the same way. It was financial advisors and engineers and the financial advisors knew better than to mess with the engineers the same way Yamauchi knew better than to mess with the game devs.

Then McDonnell Douglas merged and all of their financial guys became board members at Boeing and that's when things turned to shit. We're just witnessing the same thing happening now with Nintendo with bean counters like Bowser (worked for Electric Arts during their worst most despised years) and Furukawa (an accountant at hte european branch and board member of The Pokemon Company during its worst years). Neither of these people know how to do anything other than run their respective companies at profit margin.

>DK bananza has high highs and low lows. Like I loved every second of some areas like groove and luncheon but others were dull and also I have no desire to 100% the game (especially now that there's an area locked behind a crummy dlc). It's good but it's no odyssey

I think it is retarded that the price of Switch 2 is comparable to that of a PS5 and a mid end GPU.
I think the value you get from modern gaming is so little consoles might stop existing altogether because parents are NOT going to drop that kind of money on a device with a paid subscription and $80+ games. Xbox just capitulated this year with Sony soon to follow. Teens are not making THAT much as to adapt to the market, salaries in services are still dogshit.
Nintendo HAD more sensible practices like $300 devices and $60 games.
Now they are following on the same trends that killed their competitors with an apparent comparison to Disney.

Gamers in their 30s and 40s MIGHT have one gen left in them before they either move on or get a stroke. The visage of a 40 year old man playing a game called Donkey Kong Bananza alone in his room fills me with dread. Consoles with 1 or 2 games are a terrible thing and if you rely on Indie games you are getting robbed as they cost more on consoles. The market needs new blood and they are surrendering their entire market to mobile gacha shit.

We need to accept graphics faggotry lead us to a deep end where no one won.
A RTX 5090 is a complete fucking joke as well as the entire Nvidia suite of jewish tricks.
The industry needs to collectively dial it back.
We need cheaper hardware and affordable games.

I’ve almost exclusively played Nintendo games my whole life, only taking a brief detour for DDR and Half-Life. I have a Virtual Boy. I have the ambassador 3DS. I used to buy multiple copies of DS/3DS to play with friends who were just out of college and broke. Every smash except melee was a day one buy for me.

There is no fucking way I’m paying $500 for a switch and $70 games. It is just not happening. I probably would have done it a generation ago, but after one set of joycons and three pro controllers all having drift and/or snapback, the shameless infantilization of their games, and worst of all the dogshit insult they dare to call online play in smash/splatoon, I couldn’t even be bothered to pirate their shit going forward. It’s a fucking terrible anti-consumer company, and there is no defending it. It would be one thing if they price gouged but still made games of exceptional quality that I look forward to playing with friends every weekend, but everyone I know quit out at some point in the switch’s life. They are just video game Apple now. $100 for a piece of plastic that holds your switch, $25 for literal cardboard. It’s crazy that we even have to have this discussion.
>>
>>720603263
Same since like 2012 or so: a bad company with good games.
>>
I think they're overcharging for everything (partly tariffs, partly weak yen, partly actual hubris) and it's made a bunch of sour grapes fags and people with severe NDS. You can admit you want a Switch 2 but be pissed off at the cost of everything, you don't have to try to convince the world that it's weaker than the PS1, calls the police on you at any power fluctuation, and pours sulfuric acid on your face while you sleep. But that's just console warring faggotry, and people nowadays lie about everything.

I think Nintendo is a conservative Japanese company with huge cultural differences that keep them from fully adapting to liberal American culture which has completely different standards for free use. You ever look at a Japanese Wikipedia article? Pictures are rarely posted because "free use" isn't the same. You can take a picture of anything in America, not in Japan, people are really private. Americans are also becoming more and more outrageous, belligerent, and outspoken as time passes, and there's a culture war aspect to it as a lot of Japanese media is incredibly popular overseas, and I'm sure there are certain players in America who dislike this distribution of power and would prefer it if foreign companies were despised in favor of domestic ones.

>doesn't advertise on power but esoteric nonsense
Graphix faggotry really doomed us all.
There is no point to advertising hardware capabilities anymore because PC fats will crawl out of every opening reminding you that you are playing on outdated hardware, no fucking shit, now what is topping on PC right now? It's FUCKING SILKSONG and prior to that Deltarune.

The culprit to this is Microsoft for pushing the x86 architecture.
If PC only had access to tailor made games and shitty ports, the industry would be in a much better spot. Now we are in a place where everyone is syphoned in UE5.
No one won the console war, we all lost.

It's crazy when you realize Nintendo hasn't made an in-house F-Zero since the F-Zero X Expansion Pack on the 64DD. Actually I guess F-Zero 99 counts, but that's not really what people are thinking of when they say F-Zero game.

Massively overinflated sense of self-worth. They've somehow managed to sneakily adopt all of the worst trends of modern era gaming (paid online, over-priced releases, boring and empty open worlds, degraded personal ownership with the gamecard downloads, pay to play previous games on the new console "as intended"), and completely abandoned the affordability advantage they had over M$ and Sony, despite still having inferior hardware. Nintendo thinks that because they have "a legacy" (despite trampling on and burying their own legacy constantly), they're entitled to overcharge for very cheaply made products that bank on nostalgia above all else, and their army of Nintendo Adult sycophants enable them to keep getting away with it. This era is Nintendo at their absolute greediest, and I refuse to enable it any further, this is the first generation I intend to skip on them completely.
>>
As someone who rarely purchases and collects fan memorabilia (i.e. overprices plastic garbage) I was pretty taken aback by how Nintendo seems to be going all in on that route. $50 Amiibos, $100 Virtual Boy shells, plastic mario flowers that talk for no fucking reason. I don't give a shit about any of that trash. And it seems to me that's becoming a big staple of Nintendo.

Other than that every game announced by them seems to be shit you wouldn't be surprised to see released in the past 15 years. Rehashes, milquetoast 2d platformers, a fire emblem game. I guess I'm curious about Prime 4.

Basically, Nintendo is becoming the obvious choice if you like to spend a lot collecting toys based on the same boring, safe titles Nintendo has been churning out for years.

Worst part is, most "gamers" will say gaming is peak right now simply because muh grafix, and doesn't even consider issues like games trying to be movies and not games, subscription bullshit, a absolute flood of censored or lackluster remasters remakes "remakes" and ports due to incompetence and creative bankruptcy, and so much more

There really was a huge shift pre and post-BOTW not just for the direction of the company but also the internal studios and even the customer base. It feels corporatized and sanitized to an insane degree especially considering nintendo games were already quite sanitized to begin with. The only way to describe it is that it feels like Nintendo's first priority is trying to sell you on the brand rather than letting the products organically boost the brand, and this "branded-ness" permeates every big product they have put out since 2017. It has a very uncanny Adult Star Wars Fan feel to it all. Some youtuber called it Weaponized Nostaliga and I think that's accurate.

It's not actually $99, it is WAY more than that.
Getting a hold of a single gaming collectible in 2020 is a terrible experience.
Nintendo and Limited Run Games are guilty of causing an artificial scarcity on their products by purposely not meeting the demand then overcontrolling how these items are distributed like the way they handle online pre-orders. Bots, scalpers and influencers have priority over the regular costumer.
Not only this causes people to pay MORE but do so more urgently as to beat resellers, the comparison to Apple is correct, it is exactly how Apple handles themselves through manipulation of the market.
During the Wii era it was pretty simple to get a hold of a collectable or a limited edition with a difference of $15 at most over the base game.
I would had never got a hold of Metroid Trilogy had it been released today.

Even for something as retarded as a Virtual Boy shaped case, do not expect to get it for the MSRP if at all.
It seems Nintendo wants the Disney adult audience of people who only get dopamine if they constantly consume their products without a second thought.

Doom The Dark Ages is the flagship title for Nvidia's RTX 5000 series pushing every bell and whistle and nobody fucking wants that game and the fun part is that Eternal and Doom 2016 look immensely better because RTX is just applied willy-nilly everywhere which makes areas less memorable.

The fact it lost in revenue to Deltarune and even the Heretic + Hexen re-release should tell the industry that this is not the way to go.

I'm not surprised they're going that route. They started trying to branch out during the Wii U era so they had something else in case they were struggling with their main business of games. That's why they have theme parks and Hollywood movies and apps and way more memorabilia that isn't just Club Nintendo collector stuff or licensed kids stuff.

I've never bought an amiibo, but people have given them to me as gifts in the past, and I seem to remember them being ~$15 early on. The ones I see nowadays have insane prices, but they also look much higher quality. I think a lot of their stuff is overpriced, but at the same time, I would feel much more compelled to buy it if it was notably cheaper but still of the same build quality. I would totally buy a $60 Virtual Boy replica that can play Virtual Boy games in 3D, that sounds acceptable, but $100? That's a huge cost, and you have to have their premium subscription service to have access to them? I don't hate the products, I want them, but I hate the pricing of it all. Wireless Famicom, NES, Super Famicom, SNES, N64, and GameCube controllers being sold in 2025? Hell yeah motherfucker. But what are these prices?

And I like the physical Rosalina's storybook and the Metroid book they're going to release. I like big art books like they did for Zelda and Fire Emblem. But everything is so goddamn expensive now.

They've combined their handheld and console divisions, and aggressively poached like half of Japan's development talent. This isn't a devteam size problem, this is a terrible priorities problem. BotW's reception utterly ruined them into chasing the success and acclaim they got from copying western open world/sandbox games. my crackpot tinfoil theory is that they wanted a repeat of that hype cycle with TotK for its fusion mechanics, but they blame emulation/hacking and journo leaks for Baldur's Gate 3 being able to overshadow it, and that's why they've gone complete schizo scorched-earth on those fronts.

The games look exactly the same and cost more. No, thanks. At least when Sony/MS started charging $10 more it made sense because the games took more money to make due to graphics. Most of the Switch 2 games just look like Switch 1 games so what is the point

I was a die hard tendie up until the Wii. The straw that broke the camel's back was being unable to start up SSBB without a Wiimote. It could have been literally two button presses on the GC controller, but they forced you to aim your faggot wiimote at the screen, click the game, and click start game. I know it's a minor inconvenience in retrospect, but it just goes to show the direction Nintendo was heading and I was right.

what's even more stupid is that it took them a whole fucking 7 years to figure out "oh this should just be a new game instead of DLC" like nigga are you high? if it was going to take you that god damed long anyway why not just make a new world? hell you could of done a majora's mask and used that as an excuse to reuse assets, fucking hell a-new-male is a talentless hack

Overall? i like nintendo. I think they're a video game company that makes video games. I don't care about their legal battles because those don't affect me in the slightest. at most they might shut down a rom site i might've used, but i'm from the older generation of internet users now who don't expect pirate sites to stay up forever. it was always a game of whack a mole between pirates and devs.
I think their development has slowed down a bit too much lately so there are more draughts between games i care about, but they still manage to release 2-3 of those a year which is like 6 times what any other developer manages.

They seem to be getting in their own way again. BotW's success is no longer just fucking with Zelda, open world creep has now hit every major franchise they still produce. More than that, they are overly stingy with content when they should be flooding the platform to entice further purchases and keep the momentum up. If the launch window only has enough titles to have one release a month or less, you need to bolster that with things that will keep the console running. I don't care about Pokémon, and I'm not entirely sold on Air Riders, so the Nintendo slate is empty for me until December. They should be frontloading NSO with Gamecube titles that everyone expects, and filling holes in the other console's catalogs. It doesn't matter if people are paying for it or not, the important thing is to keep dust off of people's Switch 2s until games start coming out regularly.

On another note, the movie title announcement and stingy ass remaster are a pathetic way to celebrate a milestone of your most important title. If they couldn't do a new game, they should have done something for all the games people can no longer legally purchase. Galaxy 2 was an oversight five years ago, so it isn't really sufficient now. I hated 3D Land, it's the babiest baby game in the entire franchise, but I think pushing that, the original NSMB, and maybe even Super Paper Mario in addition would have gone a hell of a lot further.

Happy with the switch 2 and the games so far / announced, but the galaxy collection shit is absolutely retarded.

I’m putting the burden of arrogant Nintendo back on you! It’s very simple: if you stop buying mediocre games, they’ll stop making mediocre games. If the series wasn't always open world or sandbox, just don’t play! After the 60 dollar mark, give it a rest! If it's a port of a classic, emulate the classic! Tell them you want carefully designed games, not 8 years' devtime of open worlds and physics toys. People, it’s up to you. If the games stink, just don’t buy!

As a long time Nintendo fan since NES era I'm disappointed with the direction the company has taken after Iwata's death from Switch 1 and after for reasons that have already been over-analyzed to death by many other people. My consolation is that they still make some good games. Still Switch 1 is the last console I've bought from Nintendo and I refuse buying Switch 2 unless it gets modded in the future. And still the new Yoshi game is the only Switch 2 game I'm interested for. Pokemon was one of the main reasons I was buying Nintendo consoles and they've killed Pokemon franchise during Switch 1 era with Pokemon Sword being the only Pokemon game I've bought and played at Switch 1. Sun/Moon was the last, great Pokemon gen. I don't even watch the new Pokemon anime series, it's a joke. Only some of the new Pokemon specials are nice and some of the music videos and anime shorts.

And just like others have mentioned: Nintendo's soul died right after Iwata's death. What was even the point of going fully greedy mode? They were still a profitable company. They've now turned into Japan's apple in terms of greediness with overpriced junk like the 110 dollars alarm and the 100 dollars Virtual Boy accessory that still requires a Switch console and a Nintendo Switch Online Plus subscription just to play 15 games. How hard was it to make it a Classic Mini console like NES and SNES Classic Mini! It will sell more this way!

>>
>>720603263
While in some ways they have made large improvements from the Wii / Wii U era, overall its 3 steps foward and 3 steps backwards.

My biggest gripe is that almost none of their recent output exites me anymore. It all seems so hollow and formulaic, with the biggest example being totk being glorified DLC for botw.
The second biggest gripe is that their overall output seems to reduced even more. Every game takes forever to come out.
I wouldn't mind a game like totk if it came out two years after botw, while they're working on an actual sequel in the mean-time.

They're still one-of-a-kind in the gaming industry, for better and worse. But the sauce to make truly unique and exceptional games seems to be running dry.

The allegations of anti-consumer practisices is overblown IMO. Yes, their shit is expensive, No, they're still miles better than gacha-devs or filth like Ubisoft and EA.

I'm personally satisfied with the game output (got Mario Kart, will be getting Kirby, Metroid and Fire Emblem), seems fine to me for a console this early on.

I think they're money hungry as shit. The Galaxy ports are priced insanely, and I have no idea why they decided to announce the Pokemon DLC now and not just at or after launch of the game. Though, I'll say games as a whole going up in price was kind of inevitable, they've been $60 for 20 years, there had to be some movement on that eventually because of inflation even before you consider project size etc. so that specifically doesn't bother me

People don't care about Switch 2. I don't care about muh record breaking sales. It would be even more record breaking if the momentum was carried over from the Switch. But unlike the Switch handheld hybrids and even handheld gaming devices aren't novel anymore. The Switch was also extremely budget and easy to justify buying for children. The launch lineup was way better too. Zelda, 3D Mario and a Mario Kart port are better than new Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and Pokemon. Switch 2 being hit with pricing complaints doesn't help it at all. I would be happy Nintendo succeeds if they showed enough good will for me to want them to. They aren't desperate unlike the Switch so any "generosity" is out the window.

Their new games are too samey. There's little distinction between their franchises because everything is open-world slop. Even fucking Mario Kart is open-world now. It's boring.

Paid P2P online is a joke, and they killed off the Virtual Console in favor of a GamePass-style rental system which is a direct downgrade for consumers. Their money-grubbing knows no bounds.

Their legal department is on a mission to kill the company's positive reputation. They've always been bad with lawsuits and patent trolling but they seem to have ramped it up lately. They're suing over rideable mounts in games and they banned RTA from running Nintendo games altogether. Petty, hateful shit.

TL;DR: I miss Iwata. A game development company should have a game developer in charge.

In any case, the new air ride and bananza look very fun, and Id probably rather play MP4 at its best too. 3 exclusive games i want to play during its first 6 months of life is a lot better than what the competition has offered. Id say its also better than what the switch had.

which is obviously retarded because botw is not bit closer to Zelda 1 than games like Oot, and even if it were that wouldn't be indicator of quality, or lack thereof.
>>
>>720603263
I liked them better when it was easier to buy their games. Not like "just go to the eshop easier" but "make an impulsive financial decision" easier. It's easy to buy a world-class game like Mario or Zelda for $60, and I can even give Metroid Prime Remastered a whirl for $40. But I do not accept $70 games, I do not accept $60 remakes of games. I actually ended up falling off during the Switch 1 with $70 TotK taking the momentum out of me. I hadn't bought a switch game since the price for that game was revealed, despite there being like 6 games I was looking forward to.
But now, you have the ever-divisive Mario Kart World at $80. You have DK Bananza at $70, which I now know is an incomplete game with the remaining parts being sold as DLC. You have all these "Switch 2 Edition" games that hold performance unlocks hostage behind DLC priced at $10 or even $20, with the worst offenders being the less-than-worthless Zelda app bullshit. You have Welcome Tour being a paid game instead of a free tie-in, etc, etc, etc. It's just a bunch of small offenses that add up and make me feel like they just want to shake me loose of everything I have.

Nintendo of old felt like the Vegas of old - blow all your money for a week of gambling, but the rooms are cheap, food's cheap, free drinks and parking, and gambling without an excessive house edge. But modern Nintendo feels like Modern Vegas, with resort fees, amenity fees, parking fees, $15 bottled water, high food prices, and expensive drinks, all so you can play triple-zero roulette and its ridiculous house edge.

Painting that as the base game price while saying Switch 2 games are "cheaper" without factoring in THEIR DLC (especially when the DLC was blatantly stripped out of the base game like with Bananza) was dishonest and slimy of you. Dark Ages is $70 at base, so are Switch 2 games. Except Mario Kart World. That's $80.

It's funny that the only defense for Nintendo's recent pricing is "everyone else does it". As if we OWE Nintendo their "turn" to start milking us. When you have to argue about a Nintendo game being $90 or $100 with DLC versus a game on Playstation/Xbox as if there's a difference in customer respect anymore, you need to take a step back and really re-evaluate just where the fuck we are. Nintendo are no better than their competition, especially when their accessory prices have jumped through the fucking roof. Hell, they were the first ones to make standard controllers $70 eight years ago, before you could even blame le coof or le tariffs, but strangely nobody wants to talk about that.

NTA but to be fair, Sony's rereleases are often $50 with all the DLC included unless it's TLoU. The PS5 editions of GoT and Death Stranding were like that. Astro Bot was also $10 below MSRP at $60 because it was a smaller game. The Oblivion remake was only $50 too. Nintendo charges way too much for their products despite having a lower MSRP than the other consoles/PC. Well now they're more expensive than the other consoles/PC with the $80 games so it makes matters worse. The $20 jump becomes a bigger deal when you're buying 8 year old games like BotW for $80 without even having the DLC included. That's beyond a joke.
