Is it really that bad?

once you get past the console jank, it's a real hidden gem

No. It filters many.

Not really. It just lacks the depth of the first one.

Bad? It is just console friendly
>>
>>720611543
No, I played it this year and was surprised at how decent it was after hearing it's terrible. It is kinda dumb though and doesnt even come close to the first game.
>>
>>720611543
It's not bad. But it was clearly designed for X-box. Besides which only the opening scene (Atlanta) is cool, everything past that is just so-so.

>>
the only Deus Ex I played was the "I never asked for this" on PS3. I had a non-lethal stealth build and got stuck at a boss I couldn't use stealth on and just gave up.

I wanted to play the OG DE because I recently went back to Half Life 1 and found it fun and charming despite its age.
>>
>>720612057
Best thing since sliced bread.
Unified ammo is the future or IRL and fictional settings, like how Mana is for magician.
>>720611543
It's the best and most dynamic of the dudesex installment.

Speaking as someone who's played every deus ex game, it's my favorite. I understand why it's thought of as bad, and it is probably objectively the worst of the series, but I still like it the most.
>>
Shit ui, lags like crazy on my pc. I recalled it was a short one or maybe I dropped it halfway.
>>
>>720612369
Anon just trollin your ass, you play as some special labrat clone of JC then uncover the conspiracies around you and yourself, JC becomes the matrix with everyone connected in tho, which is one of the ending unlike the three color button shit like those last decade games.
>>
>>720612456
how do you like it more than the original?
>>
>>720612354
>IRL
Absolutely not. While it can be done in a wide amount of implementations within limits allotted by matter types, and has practical value, it still encroaches on ammo market and joy of using weapons in non standard ways. It shall not be allowed to take the market completely for many reasons, including technological independency and bloc based weapon denial.
More importantly, universal ammo isn't a thing the moment you install it in your gun, simply because bullets become processed.
Wasting chemical energy on making, converting and processing universal ammunition can also be logistically expensive compared to normal or even exotic matter.

>>720611543
It’s same as the first just scaled back a bit in terms of level size but honestly it isn’t that noticeable. The universal ammo is retarded in concept and you have a very limited amount of ammo so you can’t really go guns blazing if that’s your style. The world building is actually cooler, I really liked the Omar and JC and Paul Denton are elevated to legends, I don’t really see why the player character would help any of the Illuminati factions. The greys are cool and play a larger role but I won’t spoil it anymore. Play the game anon, it’s like John Carpenters The Thing in that after all these years people are realizing it’s greatness. NOT A MEME
>>
>>720611543
As a sequel, yes, it's an immense failure compared to the original. As a standalone game, no, though it's still heavily flawed. Tiny levels, slow-reacting AI, universal ammo, story is half-rehash, etc
>>
>>720611543
No. Its pretty good. Not as good as the first game but I'm not sure anything is.
>>
how does this run on w11 with all the wiki fixes?

>>
>>720611543
Yes, it's somehow overrated now because people are revisionist about it
Literally the only reason why this is remembered at all is because it's a dogshit sequel to Deus Ex
>>
>>720611543
Yeah, even putting aside the annoying compromises made for consoles, there's a lot of really fucking dumb design decisions. Making cameras instantly sound the alarm if they spot you was pretty dumb (and coincidentally probably wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the fact that they fucking removed leaning) and the universal ammo system is god awful. Basically makes having more than one weapon that uses ammo pointless because if you run out of ammo for one weapon, you run out of ammo for all your weapons.
Also Alex comes off as a dickless faggot compared to JC Denton.
>>
>>720619305
I don't think it's revisionism as much as the fact that people can actually play it now after 20 years of mods and fan patches. On release it had the horrible console UI, atrocious input lag, and rampant glitches making it nearly unplayable. Performance was pretty bad too if I recall correctly. Also it made your CRT monitor freak out at every level transition because it was made with TVs in mind and would switch resolutions during menus like a game from the fucking early 90s when developers were absolutely clueless.

it's not like unplayable or something, but compared to the first one it's really boring and shitty. The guns are boring and the story is boring and it looks ugly and the levels are so small and cramped, like picrel is supposed Lower Seattle and it's just a tiny little box room, and most other areas aren't much bigger. It doesn't really open up until the end but the levels are just baron, so there's almost no incentive to explore. And every time you enter a door or anything the whole game closes back to windows desktop and has to restart, it's stupid. The last stage of the game is the first stage of the original too, and Deus Ex 1 had a bit of a reputation for having a kinda boring first stage, but in IW they managed to make it even more boring.
>>
>>720621919

>Also Alex comes off as a dickless faggot compared to JC Denton.
You're just impure in heart. Brother and sister Dentons are just colder and are playing dumb. They are children of the collapse, different times.
More importantly, they were trained at Tarsus, which serves ApostleCorp. One can infer that they are raised to be more calmly observant, without specific indoctrination, in hopes that they will be more naturally aggreeable to JC and Paul's rhetoric by its natural merit, not withstanding whatever other psychological parameters they had set by their original makers back then.
>>
>>720620434
You're kidding, that one sounded like a bad idea and I didn't even consider it. The changes are good?
>>
>>720623020
>children of the collapse
Bro, in the original the collapse starts in the 2020s and never ends, just look at the state of America, vs DX2 where after global communications are shut down the world almost immediately not only rebuilds but then goes on to make futuristic sci-fi megastructures/cities

>>
>>720623704
Post-Aquinas collapse still affects the planet, in particular it affects Illuminati plans, which means a lot of screws are tied down, thanks to JC's actions.
Yes, some things became better, more advanced even if Omar ending implies imminent total strife in historic timetable, but the battlefield is not the same.
The time for philosophical thinking is gone, it's the endgame between 3 faction that reflect 1 unnamed entity.

>>
It's better than both Nu-Ex games.
>>
>>720624125
And Illuminati are always incognito. They aren't so much constrained as they are back to old methods that they've used in all other times.

Eidos is focus testing whether a DX5 that's a sequel to IW is viable
>>

>>
>>720611543
It feels like a cheap clone of the original Deus Ex made by a small Russian or Slovakian studio i.e. it's not a good game, but has its charm

But then again, I haven't played this game in 15 years
>>

The sheer potential is immense, but damn, that's a hard project to make.
>>
>>720626640
>>tying all plot points
Didn't work the first time they tried, why would it work then?
>bro you see Alex activates the Illuminati satellite but also gives JClios godhood and unites part of mankind, so they're duking it out for total control, but he also releases the nanite swarm which kills all augmented people so it's all happening under quarantine underground, but Omar can survive it and then nuclear armageddon happens regardless so none of it matters
Great story
>>
>>720624815
Mathematically unlikely.
In this industry you'd rather see a remake of the original before a sequel is even up for discussion.
>>
>>720613537
>but honestly it isn’t that noticeable.

It's very noticeable. It becomes apparent as soon as the game begins in your shoebox-sized room amid the tiny compressed corridors of Tarsus Academy. The problem is on full display when you step out into the "city" and get a miniaturised shopping mall where the points of interest are no more than twenty paces apart from each other.

>you can’t really go guns blazing if that’s your style.

You can. For example, the sniper rifle completely trivialises combat against unarmoured enemies, because the AI is as weak if not weaker than in the original game, but here you no longer have to invest skill points to get a steady aim with your scope. You can aim for headshots with all the ease of the Master Chief against braindead enemies who have no tactical manoeuvres against it. If you're outside their response range, they'll form an orderly cue beside their fallen comrade and wait for you to pop them.
>>
>>720626816
Tying 2027 with the future, obviously.
>why
Actually it worked well in IW, a logical progression considering the location at which JC ended up. One can make at least a handful of solid guesses as to why the Aquinas router collapse has happened.

Some things flew over heads of others.
One can reconcile IW too, even all endings at once.
>Great story
JC succeeds, male Alex sibling saves Billie. With ubiquitous biomod, populace affected learns about the Illuminati.
Helios starts to spread its nanotech through the planet and beyond.

The Illuminati is forced to submit and admit defeat. They admit it, all parties know they don't and continuously attack.
Their non-aligned and critical personnel *dies* as Illuminati cleans up house before, during and after JC takes over.
Deep Illuminati begins constructing its own AGIs and entire industries in Earth's upper mantle using nanotech, waging extremely sharp psy-ops and sabotaging info systems as they exfiltrate from Helios's domain, until they develop teleportation device and spread in Sol.
Illuminati prepare for total war and reemergence as a public entity at a later time.
Compromised agents are let go of completely.

The Templars submit most bitterly, resistance is crushed.
Remaining non-known Templars are reached to by the Illuminati, shaky but robust alliance starts.

Second century of peace starts with a shake up, as Illuminati start to raise questions in post-human domain. They succeed, and moderate humans that weren't agreeing with Helios, democratic exiles, non-aligned deaugmented criminals, and cliques of scientists shake democracy.
The Illuminati come back as a full polity. Democracy project fails and succeeds both.
World War for Human Reemergence begins.

MD Jensen, by now just a historical footnote, comes back out of nowhere with Eliza and his own robot & human civilization.

3 way war between post-humans, "Enlightened Illuminati" and pro-human Jensen faction is on.

MC is Illuminati infiltrator.
>>
>>720628454
Also Adam and Elize have Adam & Eve but victorious over sin imagery, JC is messiah at odds, and Illuminati are... honest. Dangerously so.

Sarif and Darrow grandkid characters would be nice too.
>>
>>720611543
it's better than Nu-Deus Ex, but that's where all the praise for it should end.
>>
>>720621520
Just turn around, there's a Controller behind you.
>>
>>720628454
Omar are eradicated by Helios early on, or exist as a tolerated diaspora in post-humanity. Their inhumanity poses a threat to post-human self-imagery early on, so they are carefully watched.

It's just disappointing and forgettable, not meme tier bad. If ever a game could benefit from a more ambitious remake this is it. I would say the story needs a bit of a rewrite too but frankly I don't trust anybody to do better in this day and age.
>>
The heavy consolization was awful. It reduced gameplay systems to a very poor state.

Otherwise it's a fine sci-fi story, and the ideological advancement is even pretty good.

The illuminati are still just the illuminati being insane control freaks who rule via D&C/controlled opposition, you have to contrast between the Omar borg hivemind completely overwriting individuality in favor of the Collective compared to Denton's HELIOS hivemind which still allows the drones some degree of personal autonomy but are all strictly operating under HELIOS world order. And then you have the TemplarCHADS who realized that crashing Aquinas didn't go far enough--we must actively destroy technology.
>>
They turned JC into a supervillain. This sucks.
