This game came out like a year after Terminator:Shock, so why the fuck do people call it the first 3D shooter?
>>
Everyone played Quake back then. No one played Terminator.

Before quake there was one that did pretty decent 3D graphics.

Are you people genuinely too retarded to understand the difference between simulating a simplified 3D space using 2D surfaces with moving 2D sprites over it, and a genuine 3 dimensional environment or are you just pretending?
Are you the types to believe in magic because you dont know the trick behind it?
Or are you just baiting because you're bored and in need of attention?
Let us both find out...
In the next episode...
Of Dragon Ball Z!

Explain
>>

Explain what? The difference?
>>
>>720667986
Yeah
>>
>>720667813
Your point?
>>
>>720666809
Terminator still used 2D sprites for many things including your weapons.

How about this one? >>720667245

3D level, 3D ships, you can fly to any direction, everything is texture mapped..
>>
>>720667245
That ship is 2d

Sure.
Simulating a 3D environment using 2D sprites is essentially like drawing a 3 dimensional object on a piece of paper.
You can see the supposed depth of the object, but in reality it has none. Its all smokes and mirrors caused by your brain being tricked into believing it perceives a 3D obj/your brain recognizing the pattern of 3D object the artist was going for (whichever explanation strokes your ego more).
Meanwhile true 3D environment is like well, an actual 3D environment you get to interact with every single day of your life (which you have none of btw). You see object -> you move towards object -> you can touch object and process it from different angles. Its not a flat 2 dimensional plane.
Also you couldve just asked 'can someone explain in retard terms on what the difference between 2.5D and actual 3D is?' instead of creating this whole ahh thread into baiting engagement.
>>
>>720667642
Probably the same idiot that spams purposedly slowed gameplay of Doom at easiest difficulty.
Do not feed the troll.
>>
>>720668553
Can you explain it simpler? How can a drawing be 3d without folding the paper?
>>
What is 2.5d? You can’t have half of a dimension
>>
>>720666809

I think Terminator:Shock is 2.5d like system shock, both came out before quake
>>
>>720666809
Technically Doom is probably the first. It has a X,Y, and Z axis.
Wolf 3D is 2.5d, Doom actually isn't. The
Game Engine Black Book goes into more detail.

He meant to write "draw a representation of a three dimensional object".

It cant. It can seem 3D, but its always just a static perspective pretending to be 3D. Its why enemies in those 2.5D games are never fully smooth when they dont move and you walk around them and it changes the angle you see them from by snapping to the next drawn frame, because it would require you to create a sprite of them from every angle possible which is literally infinte.
With an actual 3D object it actually renders itself like that. You just create the actual model, and the viewing angle makes the rest possible purely by the fact that the object is 3D.

An overly simple explanation is like this.
2.5D
>you draw an apple
>you can give it pretend depth with shading and perspective etc
>but to view it from behind you have to draw a different perspective all over again
>to view it from above you have to draw it fron that perspective again aswell

Actual 3D
>you place an apple on the table
>its a 3D object you can interact with which constantly exists in a 3D plane
>to view it from behind you can just walk to the other side of the table and look at it
>to view it from above you can just walk up to it and look at it from above

What's the appeal of quake? Everytime I try it I end up playing brutal doom again or something like ultrakill if I'm craving the movility/speed

Good. More for me.
>>
>>720666809
Because Terminator played like total shit. The same goes for Terra Nova. Quake was smooth as hell and actually enjoyable.
>>
Quake is trash and I'm glad it's dead. I don't care if boomers pissed and shit themselves over it back in the day.

For me, it's the exploration. I never get the sense of combat puzzles in Quake like I do with Doom. But Doom levels generally don't have the atmosphere and exploration.

That wasn't a FPS. There had been 3d games well before that. Quake was the first fully 3D FPS.
