Since then the genre has moved on and smaller, once-niche, competitors have started eating away at Final Fantasy's former throne while the old decrepit king rots away.
Rebirth was one of the most disappointing games ever.It won the most anticipated game award in 2023. In 2024, it was nominated for 7 awards, the most of any game, yet won only 1.
