Alphadream were broke as shit and were hoping to make quick cash by remaking their most popular game, and do it on the 3DS to save on costs and to reuse their engine and assets.

Which doesn't sound too bad until you realize the latter half of those had 10x-50x the development costs, and this was ALL AlphaDream was putting out with no safety net.

Meanwhile Brothership has only sold 2m copies, but Acquire has the benefit of releasing 2+ other games every single year to recoup costs (including Octopath Traveler).

I still think a game titled Mario & Luigi & Wario & Waluigi would sell enough to make the series mainstream all on its own.

After replaying the entire M&L Franchise it's so fucking slow, every game suffers from backtracking and have super simple combat, the only reason to try it is because of the writing which isn't the best thing in the world, super mario rpg is still the best mario rpg because it's the only one with actual pacing
