Despite its major flaw, CV64 making the whip a single-hitting attack that auto-targets within a front-facing radius is something it absolutely nails. Makes me sad that all we got since and all we're liable to get in the future, if any 3D game, is comboslop.

yeah I really wonder why konami hasn't made a souls game since they have had like 15 years to do it at this point.

Why would Konami make games when they could make pachinko machines instead?

64 has a lot of good ideas that just needed more polish and we could've gotten a perfectly decent game. I liked the moments of tough platforming mixed with areas that had enough exploration designed into them. The first time you enter the castle feels very memorable, like something right out of the NES games. Big pitfalls, medusa heads, traps, that's the stuff that makes Castlevania.

The garden chase is unforgivably shit though.

Isn't that what Legacy of Darkness was supposed to be?

I think so, I never played it as much as 64.

I think the big thing that would help it is right-stick camera control. If it ever gets re-released they should add that, though that's probably asking for too much effort from Konami.

Sex with Carrie

Is playing Castlevania 64 a waste of time when Legacy of Darkness exists? I know it has campaigns for Reinhardt and Carrie, but are they pared down at all from the previous game, or just the same?

They've actually added more stuff to the old game - new areas, new paths, new bad guys. If you're going to play either of the two, make it LoD, you lose nothing and gain a fair bit.

Sick, thanks.
I'm sad these CV threads keep dying so fast.

Understandable, given that the series hasn't gotten a game in what, eleven years? We get nothing but Netflix cartoons while Silent Hill gets a remake and a new game in rapid succession. Good for them and all, but still.

Yeah, not exactly a mystery. I do wonder about that supposed leak that was right about Delta and SH2 remake, saying something about a new 3D Castlevania "reimagining." Which doesn't fill me with hope, and was partly what I was alluding to in the OP if the rumors about Platinum hold any water.
